Sophie kept her eyes closed, waiting for the wave of pain to subside before finally opening them and letting out a slow breath.
From above, Thomas Shannon’s deep, magnetic voice asked, "Does it still hurt?"
Sophie shook her head, her voice as faint as a thread. "It’s alright."
She looked down at the hand she had been clutching. After a pause of a few seconds, she abruptly released it. "You... are you alright?"
On the back of his fair hand, five deep fingernail marks were strikingly visible.
Thomas Shannon lifted his hand and rubbed the marks, his expression unreadable. "I’m fine."
Sophie felt a pang of guilt and stamred, "S-should I rub it for you?"
"Hmm," Thomas Shannon said, extending his hand to her.
Sophie was speechless.
Didn’t he just say he was fine? Shouldn’t he be coldly refusing at a ti like this? He’s truly... unpredictable.
Holding his broad hand with one of hers, she gently rubbed the back of it with her other, feeling the thin layer of calluses on his fingers and palm.
"Interested in my calluses?" the man’s teasing voice sounded near her ear.
Soti during this, Thomas Shannon had sat down beside her.
Sophie instinctively leaned her head away. "What do you think you’re doing?"
"I should be asking what *you’re* doing, constantly touching my hand," he retorted.
Sophie irritably flung his hand away.
