Although she knew that going to Coopers Manor would be an even greater challenge for her, she gritted her teeth and got in the car anyway.
William Guillen had also drunk quite a bit tonight. As the master of the house, he accepted all the toasts offered to him by the guests. Even she could not be spared. Although he blocked many drinks for her, she still inevitably drank a fair amount.
William Guillen leaned back against the chair back, raising his hand to unbutton two more shirt buttons. Turning his head, he asked in a low voice, "Can I open the window?"
"As you wish."
William Guillen lowered the car window, letting the cool wind blow in. The breeze began to clear his slightly tipsy head, bringing a touch of clarity to his eyes.
On the way back to Coopers Manor, neither she nor William Guillen spoke; the car compartnt was silent.
Upon arriving at Coopers Manor, the person who was thought to have fallen asleep opened his eyes.
William Guillen got out of the car first, then, like a gentleman, went around the back of the car to open the door for her.
"Still in a daze? Do you want to carry you out of the car?" William Guillen’s light, teasing voice sounded from above her.
Fluffy Zane ca back to her senses, slightly embarrassed as she pressed her lips together, and got out of the car.
Mrs. Guillen, who had arrived earlier, had already instructed the servants to make hangover soup. When the two ca in, she greeted them with a smile and took Fluffy Zane’s hand. "Fluffy, Auntie had soone make hangover soup. Rember to drink it later, or you’ll have a headache tomorrow."
"Thank you, Auntie. I will."
William Guillen, standing to the side with both hands in his suit trouser pockets, looked sowhat put out. "Mother, I also drank quite a bit tonight. How co you didn’t remind to drink so hangover soup?"
"Oh, go on with you. Can you compare to Fluffy? You’re a tough man; it doesn’t matter whether you drink it or not."
William Guillen was speechless. Am I even her biological son?! He deeply suspected that his mother had picked him up from a trash bin on so dark and windy night.
Fluffy Zane laughed softly. For so reason, seeing William Guillen deflated made her feel particularly happy. The knot of frustration in her heart instantly vanished without a trace.
Mrs. Guillen was also tired. She covered her mouth and yawned. "Lan Singh, Fluffy, I’m tired and going upstairs to rest. Don’t you two stay up too late; rest early."
"Alright, Auntie, good night," Fluffy Zane replied obediently.
"Good night, Mother."
Mrs. Guillen turned and went upstairs. After ascending a few steps, she paused, holding the stair handrails. Turning back, she instructed, "Lan Singh, the servants have already prepared the bedroom. Take Fluffy to the bedroom later, alright?"
"Got it. You go and rest."
Mrs. Guillen went upstairs. Fluffy Zane felt a little awkward, not knowing how to face William Guillen.
Just then, the hangover soup prepared by the servant was ready and brought out.
"Miss Zane, your hangover soup is ready. Be careful; it’s hot."
"Thank you." Fluffy Zane moved to take the tray, but William Guillen reached out first and took it. "I’ll get it." A guest shouldn’t have to serve themselves, after all.
Fluffy Zane didn’t stand on ceremony and let him carry it.
William Guillen carried the tray and looked at her. "I’ll take you to the bedroom. You can take a bath first, then drink this later."
"Mhm."
They agreed. William Guillen, carrying the tray, led the way upstairs with Fluffy Zane following him.
Upstairs, they t Fiona Guillen, who had just finished her bath and was wearing a sleep gown.
"Sister Fiona, you haven’t rested yet?"
Fiona Guillen glanced at William Guillen with a half-smile, then said to Fluffy Zane, "I ca especially to see you and to make sure Guillen Junior isn’t bullying you."
