Jiang Jinsang felt uneasy just thinking about how Huo Qinqi’s future kids would call him brother. By the ti Tang Wan and she finished their class, Shen Shuci had also arrived at the town.

**

The car reached the small town; it was supposed to arrive after five in the afternoon, but to her surprise, they arrived at their destination just after four. The driver explained that a new road had been built, shortening the journey. Huo Qinqi wasn’t aware either and had ntioned it was just right to pick her up after training.

Therefore, when she arrived at the station, Huo Qinqi naturally wasn’t there.

The small town was rather ordinary, with nothing particularly special. Upon leaving the station, she randomly asked soone for directions to find out where Huo Qinqi’s unit was located.

Most young people here had gone out to work elsewhere. Many of the open shops seed to cater to those working within the base, with snacks, hotels, and supermarkets almost in abundance.

She took a cab, but as they neared the base, the driver stopped. There were guards outside; people occasionally went in and out, all needing to show identification or register—it was very strict.

Originally, Shen Shuci thought his unit would be hidden deep in the mountains and forests, in a secretive place. Apparently, she had been overthinking it.

After ssaging Huo Qinqi, she waited at the gate...

Occasionally, she could hear shouting from inside.

Previously, she always thought waiting for soone was an imnse waste of ti, boring and dull. But when it was her turn, the feeling was completely different, even with a tinge of anticipation. She seed to suddenly understand Huo Qinqi’s ntality when he used to wait for her under her apartnt...

She even started to imagine what Huo Qinqi’s reaction would be upon seeing her later.

She stood not far away, occasionally glancing inside the gate, which had already caught the attention of the guard on duty.

Particularly in this town, it was rare to see such a pretty and eye-catching girl, dressed in a red dress, with a slim waist, her bright eyes shining in the setting sun, the corners of her mouth slightly upturned, fiery and captivating.

"Who is she here to see?" One could guess she was likely soone’s family mber.

"Maybe she’s here for the team activities tomorrow. Letting such a pretty girl wait outside, whose idea is that? It’s so inconsiderate not to co and pick her up when she’s already at the gate."

"How would I know."

...

Huo Qinqi finished his training and checked his watch, thinking he had plenty of ti. He even planned to take a shower before heading to the station. But when he got back to the office and saw his phone, he paused for a mont.

"Captain, could you take with you when you pick up my sister-in-law? I need to go out and buy sothing..."

[I’m at the entrance of your unit.]

The ssage from twenty minutes ago.

He didn’t even bother with the shower, grabbed his phone, took his ID, and dashed outside, ignoring the calls from behind him.

"Oh my, what is he in such a hurry for?"

When Huo Qinqi reached the gate, even the people at the security station were taken aback. He was still in his training uniform, covered in sweat, "Captain Huo, are you heading out?"

It was the first ti seeing him rush out in such a hurry.

Soone who could maintain his composure under imnse pressure, now acting so hastily, was bound to raise suspicion.

"Here’s my ID..." Huo Qinqi glanced at the entrance; Shen Shuci was wearing a red dress today, standing across the street, remarkably conspicuous. "Help register it yourself; I’m just going across the road to pick soone up." Saying that, he sprinted outside.

"No, Huo..." The person on duty was confused; this wasn’t according to protocol. But the next second, they saw Huo Qinqi jogging directly across the road, then...

Embraced the girl in the red dress.

The person originally on duty had been cursing, wondering which fool let such a pretty girl co find him only to keep her waiting. Now it was clear...

The little scoundrel they’d been muttering about was actually Captain Huo?

The entire team knew Huo Qinqi had a partner, but since he was over thirty, everyone assud his counterpart would at least be in her late twenties. Shen Shuci, being newly into society, was mature and stable, yet couldn’t hide a hint of naivety.

So the guards never associated her with Huo Qinqi...

"Didn’t know Captain Huo has such a sweet tooth for tender ’grass’."

"An old ox eating young grass." He glanced at the evening sky in gratitude, "The sunset is truly beautiful."

"Shut up, you, be careful not to be heard."

...

Shen Shuci was initially texting Tang Wan, informing her she had arrived. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed soone approaching quickly. When she looked up, she was embraced by him.

He had just finished his training, his body warm and toasty, enveloping her. She could vaguely hear his heartbeat.

"Thump thump—" it was rapid and strong, pounding against his chest, yet it felt like it was resonating in her heart.

It had her heart pounding without restraint. Hesitating, she reached out, clenching onto the side of his shirt.

"I’m sorry for making you wait so long."

Maybe it was from sprinting all the way, his voice even more hoarse.

"The car arrived early, so I just ca straight here." Shen Shuci wasn’t the type to like troubling others.

Huo Qinqi released her, lifted her luggage, and led her inside, "Let’s go in first."

"Is it appropriate for to go in?" Shen Shuci felt she might not fit into such a serious and sacred place.

"Just take out your ID and register."

...

The guards on duty watched as the cold and composed Captain Huo, holding hands with the girl in the red dress, leisurely walked across the road to the duty room. She registered in the book, with the duty personnel signing to record it.

"Captain Huo, is she yours?" The duty personnel still asked as a formality.

"Family."

"Oh, alright..."

Shen Shuci always thought she was quite brave, not easily embarrassed, yet being led hand-in-hand by Huo Qinqi into the family quarters made her receive many curious glances along the way.

He was evidently too well-known, greeting acquaintances throughout the walk. Everyone’s gaze towards her was playful and peculiar. So bold ones even directly addressed her as "sister-in-law".

It made her inexplicably nervous.

Huo Qinqi usually wasn’t one to show off, and the family quarters were located at the rear. Holding Shen Shuci’s hand, he took the more secluded paths; on a typical day, they wouldn’t encounter anyone. Today, for so reason...

A whole group seed to "coincidentally" bump into him.

Finally arriving at Huo Qinqi’s place, she let out a sigh of relief, "Let’s go inside; since I’m single, the unit allocated a small place."

Shen Shuci stepped inside, hearing the door close behind, cutting off the outside noise and scrutiny. She felt a little relieved, but then heard the sound of the door locking, bolting it tightly.

"Why are you locking the door in broad daylight... um—" Shen Shuci was about to ask why he was locking the door during the day, but as she turned, his fingers loosened, dropping her luggage at the entrance. His long arms reached over, wrapping around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace; her voice was sealed within his mouth.

This kiss was more intense than usual...

The scent of sunshine and sweat lingered on him, his powerful aura engulfing her entirely, leaving her breathless. The sudden lack of oxygen caused a montary dizziness in her mind.

Until her back was pressed against a wall, the chilling wall sensation seeped through her skin, barely bringing back her senses.

As the kiss ended, her face was already flushed, her forehead resting against his chest, she breathed softly but rapidly.

Each breath brushing over his chest...

Huo Qinqi’s throat slightly bobbed as he glanced down, just catching sight of her fair neck...

A rush of hunger welled up within him, an intense urge to take a bite.

...

Tang Wan was getting a little worried on her end.

She had been texting Shen Shuci, the conversation going well, then suddenly there was no response. The place was indeed remote, and since Huo Qinqi hadn’t gone to pick her up, she was slightly concerned.

Should she call and ask?
