Nan Feng spoke with some emotion, “Dad, don’t worry. I’ve got this handled. After Aunt Yun joins our family, we’ll treat her as our own. What’s due to her will be given, and what’s not, I won’t part with a single penny over the top. That should be fine, right? I surely don’t want to be accused of being a miser!”
Having heard Nan Feng speak earnestly, Nan Quanyou looked at her with affection, “Fengfeng, how did your father… end up with such a considerate daughter like you? It’s like I must have accumulated some kind of good karma in my previous life.”
“Dad, listen to you,” Nan Feng wanted to step forward and hug Nan Quanyou, but father and daughter hugging was not customary at the time, so she changed the topic, “Dad, what do you feel like for lunch? I’ll make it for you.”
Nan Quanyou, somewhat embarrassed, said, “Um… Fried rice with egg would be nice.”
“Alrighty, I’ll make fried rice then. Oh Dad, check on Aunt Yun and see how her packing is going. Tell her we’re going shopping in the downtown garment district later.”

And so, Nan Quanyou went to Lin Qiaoyun’s room.
Lin Qiaoyun had insisted on working until last night when she told Nan Quanyou that she had sorted everything out at her job. She had also urged Nan Quanyou to hurry up with his packing, saying that she can’t wait to return with him to Daping village. That’s why Nan Quanyou had hurried to pack things today.
With the door to Lin Qiaoyun’s room open, Nan Quanyou could easily see her sitting blankly on the edge of the bed, unaware of his entrance.
After entering, Nan Quanyou gently tapped Lin Qiaoyun’s shoulder. She was initially startled, her face terrified, but upon realizing that it was Nan Quanyou, she relaxed somewhat, and asked with trepidation, “Oh, it’s you, Quanyou. How is it going? Did you sort out all your stuff?”
Nan Quanyou said, “Yes, I’ve packed. By the way, Fengfeng proposed a plan of us going downtown in the afternoon. She told me to let you know. She’s also making fried rice. How about having lunch at my place with Brother Fu?”
However, Lin Qiaoyun asked with a hint of disappointment, “Isn’t it said… we can leave this afternoon?”
“Fengfeng wants to buy you some clothes. She says you should go to our Daping village looking radiant for the first time, plus a few new clothes for Brother Fu,” Nan Quanyou said while pondering, “what’s with Qiaoyun today? She seems pletely out of sorts.”
Upon further thought, it clicked. Her urgency to return to Daping village must be because he rejected her proposal too quickly that night and then, later on, agreed too hastily; she must be worried he’ll change his mind again, right?
So, Nan Quanyou tried to fort her: “Don’t worry, Qiaoyun, as I’ve already promised to take you as my wife, I won’t change my mind in the future. We will return to Daping village together, we will farm and cook together, our life will for sure get better and better.”
At this, Lin Qiaoyun, whether from emotion, or whatever it might be, started shedding tears. “Brother Quanyou, I… I never thought… I could meet a man like you, or live the life you’re describing… I…”
Hearing her call him “Brother Quanyou”, Nan Quanyou was quite happy, “Qiaoyun, such a life isn’t anything special. I was even afraid you might think life in our village is too simple.”
“I don’t care about whether a life is poor or not, or whether it’s in the city or in the countryside, if you treat me well in the future, I will be the most content. I’m ready to labor in the fields with you every day, to work from dawn to dusk, as long as you’re good to me.”

While the two of them were exchanging heartfelt words, unbeknownst to them, some people had entered their home from outside.
