Nan Feng innocently said, “But this morning, she told me she wanted to shop for clothes here. Could it be she’s done shopping and left already? How about this, you e with me to check that tofu pudding stand up front. I remember Auntie Yun really loves their tofu pudding. She might be taking a break to eat some after being tired from shopping.”
“Which one?” the leader said, already irate.
Nan Feng replied, “Just follow me.”
She was intentionally dragging these people around, buying time for Lin Qiaoyun to hide. This leader had said Lin Qiaoyun signed a deed of sale to their household. Nan Feng knew what that entailed and thought that she could just buy back Lin Qiaoyun’s freedom. But she also suspected the matter wasn’t so simple.
First off, if it was possible to buy Qiaoyun back, Qiaoyun would tell this to Nan Quanyou. But she didn’t, and instead was thinking about escaping. They must be hiding something.
Secondly, the group were intimidating. It was clear they weren’t reasonable people. If they caught Qiaoyun, they would undoubtedly beat her senseless, and in this era, no one would care if a servant was beaten to death in a wealthy family. Under no circumstances could she hand over Qiaoyun to them. Qiaoyun had to hide, and Nan Feng would negotiate with them.
“Girl, there’s no one at this tofu pudding stand either. Where are they?” asked the head steward irritably.
Nan Feng feigned ignorance and replied, “Oh, maybe she’s already gone home? Let’s go back and check the courtyard, she might be there already.”
“What if there’s no one there either?” the leader asked. He was suspicious of Nan Feng and threatened her sharply, “If there’s no one in the courtyard, I’ll give you a thrashing!”
Nan Feng, upon hearing about getting beaten up, repulsed: “Zhang Residence is truly remarkable. You guys always resort to violence? Fine, let’s head back then. Anyway, you’re never satisfied until you’ve had a fight.”
“You…” The leader had presumed Nan Feng was as innocent as a child, but now she was acting indifferent. The sudden change in her behaviour took him by surprise and he felt like hitting her. However, Nan Feng had already briskly walked ahead of them and the leader had no choice but to signal his men to follow her.

Nan Feng had only just entered when the group followed after, rushing impatiently directly to Nan Feng’s room to look for someone.
Bu Rong’s wife and Bao Dayin’s wife, having witnessed the scene, were scared and quickly shut their doors. However, the leader had learned his lesson and ordered a search of all four rooms simultaneously, but to no avail.
However, one person ran over to the leader and pointed to Lin Qiaoyun’s room, “Director, should we take a look in that room? I see some attire worn by that woman, Lin Qiaoyun, as well as some children’s clothes. They must belong to her son.”
“Oh?” The leader looked at Nan Feng suspiciously, “Didn’t you say Lin Qiaoyun was staying in this room? How e Lin Qiaoyun’s clothes are in that room?”
Nan Feng smiled and replied, “Because Auntie Yun is staying there, but who told you all to search my room?”
“You brat, you were the one who said Lin Qiaoyun was in this room!”
“Nonsense, I clearly pointed at the west room, who asked you to search the east? Blaming others for your own lack of understanding!”
The director was about to explode, “You…you! Tie up this brat and take her to the elder master, say she’s the one who intervened and let Lin Qiaoyun escape!”
Nan Feng, unafraid, was just about to take a fighting stance when suddenly a tall, imposing man in an office uniform entered from outside. He wasn’t good-looking, was cold and looked scary enough to cause fear without even raising a hand.
Nan Feng, however, was thrilled and cried out, “Brother Ye!”
