"He hasn't left yet, right?" Olivia asked, a hint of frustration in her voice.
"No, the ssage said that he would be contacted again later today when they were ready for him. But there's no telling how much longer that will be. From what I can tell, these new guys that have just taken over don't have an ounce of consideration for Andras. They order him around like he's a well-trained animal."
"Okay, I'm a bit busy right now. How did I end up as the office's gofer?" Olivia complained.
In order to get access to Huijari's room, Olivia had taken up a position akin to an assistant for the entire managent team.
This essentially ant that whenever soone needed sothing brought to them, she was the one that had to do so.
Often tis this ant delivering food or drinks from the cafeteria, because the upper managent was either too lazy or too entitled to go and get it themselves.
Still, this had given her the ability to enter rooms that were otherwise off-limits to newer employees like them.
Otherwise, they would have been forced to break-in which could have left traces of their intrusion or even led to them getting caught.
'Seeing as how she was trying to get Langdon to do most of the work this ti, she ended up in a pretty demanding position. Who would have thought that the executives here needed so many things brought to them in this day and age.' Jasmine thought, sympathetic of Olivia's plight, but also finding it a bit amusing considering how she had originally stated that she would pass off most of the work to her second in command.
The two of them discussed what their plan would be until Olivia had to get going. Apparently one of the managers had called for her to go and retrieve their lunch for them.
"I've got a lot of tedious work to deal with myself, but I'm certainly glad I didn't end up in the sa position as her."
At the very least, jasmine hardly had to interact with others and mostly just sat at a desk all day going through files.
It was pretty boring work and she disliked how she had to stay cramped in a small room for hours at a ti, but it could have certainly been worse.
She had needed to deal with similar situations when she was part of the Alliance Police. Reports could often end up getting backed up, and so days all she had done was fill such things out. Though, at least that had not been every day. Often tis she was out in the field doing work she actually wanted to.
'Well, that's all in the past at this point. I sohow ended up becoming a rcenary, and it's actually a lot more enjoyable than I first thought.'
Jasmine's mind soon wandered towards thinking about Avery.
It had been a while since she had seen him now, and she could hardly believe how much she missed him considering that she had been single her entire life up until now.
"Well, I'll have him pamper a bit after all the hard work I've done here. That the least he can do for ." Jasmine said, her lips unconsciously turning up into a smile.
However, as she was planning out what she wanted to do when this mission was over, she saw that Andras had just received another ssage on his burner terminal.
He naturally looked a bit upset and started hastily gathering up his things as he prepared to leave. It seed that he had been ordered to leave imdiately.
"Those guys are either cautious or malicious. They didn't even give him a location and just sent him an incrental navigator to find where to go."
The program that was attached to the ssage Andras had received would only release small parts of the route he needed to travel at a ti. Often tis these things would not even give out the most efficient information. Forcing anyone following its directions to sotis go in completely wrong directions.
This type of program served to make it nearly impossible for anyone to figure out the designated location ahead of ti. All they could do was follow the instructions that ca in as they arrived.
'And since we're going to have to tail him, that ans we're going to have to deal with this roundabout sh*t as well.' Jasmine thought, letting out a deep sigh.
Still, she had needed to do far more tedious tasks in the past for her work as a mber of the Alliance Police. Tracking people was not particularly difficult. Just a bit ti consuming.
Pulling out her terminal, Jasmine sent a ssage to Olivia. It was ti for them to finish up what they were doing and get going.
"Leaving earlier won't be too much of a problem for , but it looks like Olivia is going to need to do sothing a bit extre."
Since she had ended up needing to answer to a bunch of higherups, and it was still a bit too soon for them to just quit, Olivia needed an excuse to leave work earlier.
Just in case sothing like this ca up, she had a capsule on her that when ingested, would make her start exhibiting signs of a fever.
Though dical technology in the Dramid Alliance was pretty advanced, people still got sick.
Most of the ti unless it was a completely new pathogen, most diseases we're easily treatable. Still when soone got sick, they obviously needed to receive dical attention to cure whatever they had gotten.
Obviously, if soone used this trick too often, others would beco suspicious. People did not get sick on regular basis most of the ti. But this would be the first ti Olivia did anything like this, so hopefully no one would catch on.
"Okay, I've officially been excused. I'll head over to et you. But damn does this suck. Even thought I'm not really sick, I still feel awful." Olivia grumbled over the call with Jasmine.
Once the two of them et up in the building's garage and got into the personal vehicle they had rented, Olivia imdiately took the neutralizing agent that ended her fever.
"Whew, that's better. So, where are we going?"
Jasmine showed Olivia the image of what had been sent to Andras.
Naturally she recognized the type of program it was and frowned.
When she had accepted an unregistered job that was supposed to pay a lot, this was the sa type of thing that had been sent to her.
However, what awaited her at the end was an ambush, and that was how she ended up being captured by Iniquus and turned into one of his puppet soldiers.
That was why when she saw what Jasmine showed her; her expression beca sour.
It reminded her of her greatest humiliation, and of the worst ti in her life.
"What are you doing?" Jasmine asked when she saw Olivia take out her terminal and start furiously typing.
"I've got a bad feeling about this, so I just contacted my crew mbers. They'll be on standby just in case sothing goes awry."
Jasmine nodded her head in understanding.
There was no telling what might happen here, so it was best that they were prepared.
With the tracer that had been placed on Andras' vehicle, the two of them tacked the man for dozens of kiloters before he got parked and got out.
They wandered around the streets of the surface for a bit before heading into the underlayers.
Since this was clearly a clandestine rendezvous of so kind, it was obvious that it would be taking place sowhere where there would be less attention.
It took nearly nine hours before Andras finally arrived at the location he had been ordered to go to.
They were currently in the eighty-sixth underlayer in an area that was mostly used for storage.
There was hardly anyone else around. The perfect place for a secret eting.
"Looks like he's gone into that building. You stay here and keep an eye on the place, while I'll scope it out.
Jasmien released a few miniature surveillance drones and stealthily approached the building.
She searched around for other entrances and found that there were a number of doors, vents, and maintenance hatches that could be used as a way in.
The place did not seem to have much security either.
Just so standard locks and alarms that would keep the average thief out. Nothing even close to enough to stop them when they had plenty of devices ant for breaking into a place.
"It still feels a bit weird to be doing sothing like this without getting a warrant first." Jasmine said as she disabled the building's security system and opened up the door.
Back when she was a part of the Alliance Police, she had sneaked into all manner of places, but the law had always been on her side before. This ti though, she was certainly trespassing illegally.
Still, this was the job that she needed to do, and she just had to accept that it was necessary to break a couple of minor laws to catch far worse criminals.
Carefully the two of them headed towards where Andras had gone. To put a true end to this case, they needed to find out who his superiors were.
Except, when they entered a certain area, a voice they had not been expecting called out to them.
"Looks like the bait I set managed to catch a couple of rats."
