Now reading: Chapter 391 Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal from Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary, a Action novel by MegaC.

With the entire operation falling apart in front of him, Clarien was ready to order so truly drastic actions.

Now that Rook was missing in action, the majority of the infiltration team was being suppressed by the Alliance Police.

At this point they lacked the manpower to fight back against the forces on Yuson II.

This ant that Clarien could no longer consider the outer assault to be rely a diversion.

It was now necessary for him to order ever ship under his command to attack and take over the entire station.

After that he would mobilize everyone and tear the colony apart looking for Avery’s parents.

This thod was far more forceful than he wanted, but it was the only real option that Clarien had left if he wanted to succeed here.

Right before he was about to give out his commands, however, one of his lieutenants relayed terrible news to him.

"Sir, the pirate fleet is retreating. Most of the Alliance Police are chasing after them, but so have already turned around and are coming this way. We’ve only got a little more than an hour until they reach us."

Hearing this caused Clarien’s eyes to go wide and his nostrils to flare.

Imdiately his head snapped towards the screen that was connected to Delilah.

There he saw her gazing back at him, her characteristic smug grin on her face.

"You b*tch! Are you really doing this right now?!" Clarien roared.

"I haven’t the foggiest what you’re talking about. Those pirates are under Adder’s control, not mine. If you want to bla soone, it should be him, not ."

Delilah put on her most innocent expression, but Clarien was not going to be fooled.

He knew that she was conniving and duplicitous, but he had thought that their current goal was at least aligned.

"Do you think I’m an Idiot, Delilah! I know you must have planned this together with Adder! How long have you been planning to betray us?!"

"Well, since the very beginning. This has been a winning venture for since the start. Either you eliminated Avery Asteria for and got rid of a pest that’s been in my way, or you fail and fall into ruin. Of course, I’ve been hedging my bets against you failing. Obtaining a large portion of your territory once you’re gone is a lot more profitable for than getting rid of a small rcenary group that on rare occasions impedes one of my plans."

Seeing how easily that Delilah had given up her charade, Clarien knew that she was finished with him.

But if she thought that she was going to be able to get away with this, she was overconfident.

"Lock on to her ship and fire! Kill her now! Clarien ordered

Just in case he needed to get rid of her, he had planted a tracking device on her and her ship.

They were both currently in the sa location, hidden by the cloaking device that had been given to her as part of the paynt for her assistance.

Clarien’s vessel decloaked and fired a wide barrage of laser cannon fire into what looked like empty space.

This was where he was certain that Delilah was hiding though and was confident that any mont now they would see her personal craft be hit and explode.

Yet, that never happened.

The laser continued flying until they disappeared from sight. Having not co into contact with a single thing.

"Clarien, you truly are the most gullible ’smart’ person I’ve ever t. Did you really think sothing so obvious as planting trackers on my ship and I was going to work. I ditched while you were distracted with your failed operation, and the vessel that your detecting is just a sensor ghost. I’m already long gone. Ah, put I should not leave without so parting gifts."

Clarien watched as Delilah pressed a button on her console.

A mont later, the ships he had in reserve that were still under cloak all beca visible.

"What’s going on?!" Clarien shouted at his bridge crew.

"We trying to figure that out sir. But from what I can tell, the cloaks throughout the entire fleet have been disabled by so sort of virus. I don’t know how long it will take for us to get them back up again."

This was not what Clarien wanted to hear, and he slamd his fist down on the screen displaying Delilah’s face.

The rage he was feeling right now might have even exceeded what he experienced after being captured by the Alliance Police.

"You won’t get away with this Delilah. I’ll hunt you down and make you pay for this. That silver tongue of yours won’t help you any longer."

"Good luck with that. I’d be impressed if you could. Now how about the second present that I’ve prepared. It took so work to make sure that you didn’t notice, but you were too focused on what was going on inside the station and with the Alliance Police." Delilah said mockingly.

This ti she sent over a transmission to Clarien’s ship using the connection that he still had not cut.

There was nothing malicious though, as if there was it would have been caught by the ship’s security.

No what she had sent over was sensor data.

A group of thirty vessels were fast approaching Yuson II and were only around seven minutes out by light speed.

They were not Alliance Police or rcenaries, so this group had not triggered any alarms on Clarien’s ship.

Nevertheless, it was still a small fleet of warships. One that had been sent by Azade.

On paper their mission was to serve as escorts for Avery’s parents to bring them to the planet for their son’s wedding, but truthfully, they were protectors sent by Regina at Jasmine’s request.

This was the suggestion that she had given to Avery when they were making their plan to hastily return to his ho system.

Azade was a bit closer, and with a powerful connection in the planet’s chancellor, they were able to use Azade’s forces to co to the rescue faster than they could.
