Jasmine gave Avery her own speculation on the situation.
Likely, the top brass of Storren Corp. had used their position as one of the top three spacecraft manufacturers in the Alliance to influence soone of a high rank in the Alliance Police to open an investigation into Avery.
The chances it would amount to anything would be low since he had done nothing wrong, but it did serve as another bargaining chip that they could use. Either by offering to make the trouble go away in return for the SCXD-011, or simply as harassnt to attempt to make Avery believe that keeping it was more trouble than it was worth.
Of course, Jasmine had no real basis for her reasoning. It was all just a suitable hypothesis she had co to from the limited amount of information she had.
"I figured these types of problems would be coming for eventually." Avery said with a deep sigh.
It was inevitable that Storren Corp. would try to reclaim their lost piece of advanced technology.
Since he had been piloting it for a few months now, Avery knew just how impressive his vessel really was.
The resources and innovative skills necessary to bring about its creation were undeniably topnotch.
Still, if he did not want to deal with them, there was nothing forcing him to do so. And he had just received a job that would allow him to make himself scarce from the station for a while.
"Thanks for the information, Sergeant Iralus. We'll get right on that request from the Alliance Police. Hopefully the problem in the Prazan System isn't sothing too difficult to take care of."
"You're welco. And I'll take my leave now. I've got reports to write, and I'm sure that the officer that approached will want an in-person report."
With that, Jasmine exited the Dauntless and left Avery and Kasandra alone onboard.
"Kasandra would mind taking care of recharging the ship's power supply and replenishing its ammo. I want to contact my mother before we leave. Oh, and feel free to order whatever you might need as well. I know that you recently lost most of your possessions."
With a smile and a slight nod of her head, Kasandra headed for the cockpit and made the arrangents.
Once she was gone, Avery pulled out his terminal and called his mother.
She picked up almost imdiately and Avery could hear the nervousness in her voice when she spoke. Apparently, his father had just been taken away for the first procedure.
Normally, there would be nothing to worry about, but Avery's father's condition had been left in a less than great state for a while. There was a small chance that the treatnt would be unsuccessful.
Still, it was supposedly within a range of less than one percent according to the doctor that had spoken to Avery's mother, and he did what he could to reassure her.
"I'd really like to be there myself, but I've been given a job to handle directly from the Alliance Police. Hopefully I'll only be gone for a few days at most. I promise to be back soon, and we can celebrate dad's recovery together." Avery said, putting as much confidence into his tone as he could.
"Thank you. And be safe out there. I can't wait to see you again. I love you, Avery, and I know your father does as well."
Avery told his mother that he loved her as well, and as he heard her starting to cry, she ended the call.
"Okay, ti to get to work."
Getting his emotions under control, Avery made his way to the cockpit and found Kasandra just finishing up putting in requests for the replenishnt of the Dauntless' energy and ammo.
"Looks like we will be ready to go in a little under an hour. Want to download so new entertainnt for when we have downti?"
"Sure, we went through just about everything we had during that patrol mission. I really underestimated how boring it can get sitting around when nothing is happening." Avery replied, a small grin forming as he sat down and the two of them found shared and individual interests to keep themselves busy when they had nothing better to do.
Soon enough, the Dauntless was back to full power and stocked up on ammunition. It had cost around seven thousand Krenin to replenish everything, but that was just one of the expenses of being a rcenary.
Once they were cleared for departure, Avery activated the ship's thrusters and carefully brought it out of the hanger.
It had not even been a day yet, and the two of them were already on their way towards their next adventure.
"I figured I'd have ti for a break after such a big job, but I guess not. I think this might be the shortest interval I've ever had during my ti as a rcenary." Kasandra comnted.
Among rcenaries, she and her brother would actually be considered quite diligent compared to most, but even then, they often had at least a couple days off in between jobs to recuperate and figure out what they wanted to do next.
Once they had gotten far enough away from Yuson II, Avery entered the coordinates of the hyperspace lane that would take them to the Prazan System.
Fortunately, the trip was not very long, and less than ten minutes later, they had reached the part of the system where they were free to enter hyperspace.
"Really, this is going to be your first ti!"
"Yeah, I've never left the system before, so I've only used light speed to get around. My old ship wasn't really ant for far reaching interstellar travel, so I tried to keep at least relatively close to ho."
"Well, you're in for a real treat then. If you think that light speed travel is impressive, you're going to be blown away by going into hyperspace." Kasandra said excitedly.
Feeling even more anticipation now that his companion had hyped it up, Avery entered the information to head to the Prazan System, and the Dauntless' hyperdrive sprung to life and began powering up.
