Avery and the other rcenaries continued to fight until the group that had ambushed them fled in retreat.

They had managed to take down around seventy percent of their adversaries before the rest ran away in defeat.

It was a victory, but not one without losses.

Twenty-six rcenaries had fallen and three of the Moonrise cargo ships had been destroyed. Allowing even so of their client’s personnel and property to be lost was a major blow to the guards that had survived.

"Don’t let this get you down Avery. Without us here, things likely would have gone a lot worse." Kasandra said, rubbing his back reassuringly.

Avery had put himself in imnse danger to strike heavy blows against their attackers and take a great deal of the fire away from the other rcenaries.

He was the first to plunge into the enemies and constantly kept himself as the center of attention.

There was a good chance that all of the rchants and other rcenaries might have died if he, Ezra, and Kaiden had not been around.

In terms of contributions to the battle, there was no one else comparable to them.

Before Avery had ti to ruminate on the situation further, he received a transmission form the Moonrise Flagship.

"I’m relived to see that the award you received was not because your abilities were exaggerated. And the other two mbers of your group fought admirably as well. Truly I must thank you for protecting myself, my employees, and our cargo."

Svantur expressed his gratitude to Avery wholeheartedly. As a rchant that had seen a few other battles in his day, he understood well that Avery’s rcenary group was the primary reason that they had not only survived but co out victorious.

The loss of three cargo ships and more than two dozen rcenaries was tragic, but it honestly could have been much worse considering the strength of their opponents.

Sixty military vessels, old or not, were a force to be reckoned with.

Without soone brazen enough to charge directly into the enemy forces first, the other rcenaries might not have had the courage to do so. Avery did more than just perform spectacularly; he inspired the other guards to do so as well.

"Also, it seems that your daring is needed once more. So of the rcenary leaders want to board the three disabled vessels and capture any survivors for interrogation. Of course, they are all hoping that you’ll lead the charge on the largest vessel, as am I. Naturally, you’ll receive a bonus for this and your hard work protecting our fleet during the battle." Svantur said, making sure to emphasize the extra pay Avery would receive.

Avery was hesitant to risk the mbers of his crew by fighting his way onto an enemy ship, but he could hardly back down in this situation.

’I suppose that it will be a good way to recoup so of the costs of the power armor I bought to fight Ezra.’

After agreeing to the request, Avery sent a transmission to Ezra and Kaiden. They were all going to infiltrate the single disabled cruiser, which just so happened to be the one Ezra had fired his railgun at and destroyed its main thrusters.

"Are you two ready to-"

As Avery turned around to speak to Jasmine, he found her completely stiff and her face pale.

He had certainly executed so dangerous strategies and co under heavy fire more than once, but since she had been a police sergeant before, Avery had not even considered how this type of battle might affect his newest crewmber.

However, she had been trained to work on colonies, not warships. There had been tis she had been shot at before, both in training and while on the job, but nothing like this. Lasers, multi-cannons, missiles, and all other manner of destructive weapons had been firing at them without end. Even for soone with her background, it had been too much to handle for her first battle in space.

"Kasandra, would you mind taking Jasmine to her room, and then eting at the airlock?"

At first, he had planned to bring Jasmine with them, but it was clear she was in no state to go charging onto an enemy vessel.

Thankfully, with Kasandra’s help, she was able to get up and walk to her room, but the entire ti she had a far away gaze. As if she was trying to disassociate from reality.

While Jasmine was being taken care of, Avery made his way over to the unmoving cruiser and docked with one of its air locks.

Ezra and Kaiden had already done the sa, and once he had his power armor put on and equipped with his weapons, he breached the ship.

"Hear anything?" Avery asked Kasandra.

She was wearing a protective suit and mask with its own oxygen supply, but her ears were exposed so that she could use her heighted senses to pick up on any movent.

"Just my brother and Ezra entering as well. It doesn’t sound like anyone is coming our way. We should et up with them first and then proceed."

Nodding his head, Avery opened up communications with the other two mbers of his team, and the four of them quickly ca together to explore the ship and apprehend anyone they found.

"Am I the only one that feels that they’re response has been too tepid, considering how viciously they attacked before?" Ezra said, looking around warily as he examined the scanner data displayed on the visor in front of them.

So far, they had just been walking down empty halls without encountering a single person or security drone. Everything was eerily quiet. Like there had never been a crew to begin with.

The idea that these ships had been pre-programd with instructions ca to mind, but that possibility was quickly dismissed.

During the fight, they had moved too erratically to have been controlled by a computer. They would have been using set formations that were easily discernible if that was the case.

Eventually they did manage to find the crew within the ss hall. Yet there were no enemies to be worried about. Every single one of them was dead.
