Ye Zhi didn’t mind at all and said with a smile, "You have your brother-in-law as your backing, what are you afraid of? Besides, these are the first batch of soldiers we’ve trained. We’re banking on them to set an example. If they don’t stand out, where will we find more won signing up for the army in the future?"
An Jing smiled and nodded, "True." She paused, "Not only should they stand out, they should shine brightly."
Ye Zhi imdiately agreed, "Exactly, they should shine brightly!"
Xiao Changyi looked at his wife, brimming with energy and spirit. His cold lips lifted into a barely noticeable smile.
An Jing caught Xiao Changyi’s slight smile from the corner of her eye and imdiately turned her head, giving Xiao Changyi an even brighter grin.
Ye Zhi silently stood up.
"Hey, why are you leaving?" An Jing asked in surprise, not understanding why Ye Zhi suddenly got up to leave.
Ye Zhi replied without turning her head, "I’ve had too much of this lovey-dovey nonsense; I need to go digest it." After a brief pause, she let out a heavy sigh, "If I don’t leave now, I might choke to death on all this dog food."
"Hahaha..." An Jing burst into laughter, directly collapsing into Xiao Changyi’s arms.
Ye Zhi didn’t know why, but lately, she couldn’t bear An Jing and Xiao Changyi’s sweet monts. It was as though their love was sohow unfair to her.
But truthfully, Ye Zhi wasn’t soone who couldn’t tolerate others being affectionate. She was just overwheld.
What was bothering her?
It was that Gong Juechen treated her way too well.
Her back had taken a knife wound, bleeding heavily, yet over the last few months, Gong Juechen had spent endless energy helping her recover. Her current good health was partly due to her naturally strong constitution, but primarily thanks to Gong Juechen’s careful treatnt.
If only Gong Juechen didn’t have such a sharp tongue, and wasn’t infatuated with her looks but genuinely liked her as a person, perhaps she really could...
As soon as this thought crossed her mind, Ye Zhi, stepping out of An Jing’s tent, imdiately shook her head vigorously internally.
What was she even thinking?!
She shouldn’t be thinking this way!
Even if he treated her well, he liked her face—not her as a person. She couldn’t entertain such thoughts! And besides, his mouth was so insufferable!
In fact, Gong Juechen’s sharp tongue had slightly improved since Ye Zhi woke up after being injured. But that tiny improvent, in Ye Zhi’s eyes, was as good as nonexistent.
Over the past few months, the only ti Gong Juechen kept his mouth shut was during the monts he coaxed Ye Zhi into eating the dicinal als he’d prepared for her recovery.
Gong Juechen was an expert at being clingy. Every ti Ye Zhi refused to eat, he would stick to her like glue, following wherever she went. In the end, Ye Zhi couldn’t take it anymore and had to eat the dicinal als he made just to get so peace.
Still, those dicinal als couldn’t have co cheap.
The als contained countless precious herbs, and thankfully, Gong Juechen had the wealth to afford them.
Initially, Ye Zhi planned to reimburse Gong Juechen for the dicines he gave her. However, though she hadn’t asked him directly, she knew the costs of such treatnts were exorbitant, and she... she couldn’t repay it, not even if she sold herself.
So Ye Zhi told herself, "He’s the one forcing to eat it. It’s not like I asked him to make it for . This money, I don’t need to pay back."
Thinking this way made Ye Zhi feel much more at ease.
As soon as she stepped out of An Jing’s tent, Ye Zhi headed toward her own tent. The mont she entered, she imdiately caught the scent of herbs, signaling that Gong Juechen was there, inside her tent.
Gong Juechen was a doctor, so carrying the sll of herbs was normal. But over the past few months, with Gong Juechen constantly presenting her with dicinal als, that herbal scent had grown even stronger.
