When Li Wuyu and the others were performing their sword dance, An Jing suddenly felt her right eyelid twitch uncontrollably. It was so intense that she felt uncomfortable and quickly pressed her hand over her eyelid to stop the twitching.
"What’s wrong?" Xiao Changyi, having just poured a cup of wine for An Jing, saw her press her hand against her eye and asked curiously.
An Jing replied, "Nothing. My right eyelid just keeps twitching nonstop."
Before Xiao Changyi could respond, Gong Juechen, seated at the neighboring table, leaned over with a mischievous grin and said, "Jingjing, ’Left eyelid for fortune, right eyelid for disaster.’ If your right eyelid keeps twitching, sothing bad must be about to happen."
An Jing shot him a sidelong glance. "If sothing bad happens to , would that make you happy?"
"Absolutely." Gong Juechen actually responded with a laugh. "Seeing how lovey-dovey you and Changyi always are, I’m jealous! When will I ever get to have that kind of relationship with my Zhizhi?"
Ye Zhi overheard the conversation but acted as though she hadn’t and continued chatting with Lie Qi and the others.
This was typical behavior for Gong Juechen, and Ye Zhi had long grown accustod to it. Besides, there was no point in taking it seriously. Ignoring it was the best way to avoid ruining her mood.
An Jing shot him a look of disdain. "Thanks to your wish for sothing bad to happen to , my eyelid has stopped twitching. Even heaven can’t stand to see you like this and must not want to suffer any misfortune."
Gong Juechen leaned across Xiao Changyi to examine An Jing’s right eye carefully, then sighed in disappointnt. "It really stopped twitching. If I had known, I wouldn’t have said anything so you could keep twitching."
An Jing glared at him even more furiously. "Do you even know what schadenfreude ans? Because you’re the very embodint of it!"
Gong Juechen nodded with an annoyingly honest expression. "Yep, I totally am reveling in your misfortune."
An Jing: "..."
After a mont of silence, An Jing decided to ignore Gong Juechen altogether. It seed that ever since Ye Zhi had been struck on her back with a sword, his terrible habit of being overly mouthy had slightly improved—but only slightly. He was still just as irritating.
So irritating that sotis she felt like giving him a good beating.
"Ah!" Suddenly, Gong Juechen let out a yelp, "My right eyelid is twitching too!"
An Jing imdiately glanced at Gong Juechen’s right eye and, upon seeing his eyelid really twitching non-stop, burst into laughter. "Serves you right! You were enjoying my misfortune. Now disaster has co for you instead. Truly, heaven has eyes!"
Gong Juechen paid no attention to An Jing and instead leaned over to Ye Zhi with a shaless grin, saying, "Zhizhi, my right eyelid is twitching. I must have so bad luck coming. You have to protect ."
Ye Zhi raised her hand and slapped it against Gong Juechen’s face, pushing him away as she bead brightly, "If sothing bad happens to you, I’ll set off firecrackers to celebrate."
"Zhizhi..." Gong Juechen looked deeply aggrieved, though the constant twitching of his eyelid made his expression seem even more pitiable.
Liu Feifei glanced at Ye Zhi and Gong Juechen trading teasing banter and felt a pang of envy. Finding the alcohol starting to affect her a bit, she got up and decided to head to a quieter corner to catch the breeze.
The banquet had started when it was still daylight, but now night had completely fallen—it was already the hour of Hai.
As Liu Feifei approached a corner, she spotted Liu Buli standing alone beneath a tree.
Liu Feifei hesitated for a mont but ultimately decided to walk toward Liu Buli.
"Brother Buli..." She stopped in her tracks behind Liu Buli and hesitated again before softly calling out.
Liu Buli turned around but didn’t say anything. He simply looked at her.
Although the military camp was lit by torches, the area under the tree remained dim. The two of them couldn’t clearly see each other’s faces and could only make out vague outlines.
