Seeing her words had co to this point, Xiao Changyi still didn’t relent. An Jing pursed her lips, lowered her gaze, and softly said, "You’re not the only one who wants to avenge my adoptive father and restore Xiyun’s honor—I want to as well."
Xiao Changyi closed his cold eyes and finally agreed, "Alright, this Great General will let you go. I hope you all return safely."
"Thank you, husband!" An Jing imdiately lit up with joy, hugging Xiao Changyi’s neck and planting a kiss on his lips.
Xiao Changyi’s lips curled slightly; though it looked like he wanted to smile, the expression was closer to crying. The journey ahead was full of danger, and he sincerely hoped she would return unhard.
Ye Zhi covered her eyes with both hands, then spread her fingers wide apart to peek through the gaps at An Jing and Xiao Changyi, exaggeratedly exclaiming, "Hey hey hey, Boss, where’s your dignity?"
Without waiting for An Jing’s reply, Ye Zhi added, "Anyway, I didn’t see a thing. What I did see is you constantly teaming up with my brother-in-law to shalessly flaunt your love in front of this single dog."
"Alright, enough joking around." An Jing couldn’t help but laugh. She was just comforting her husband, okay?
She was about to take risks, and her husband was obviously extrely worried.
Even though he agreed, he would still worry deeply, afraid sothing might happen to her.
"Let ng Zhuqing take a team to accompany you," Xiao Changyi suggested.
An Jing burst into laughter, "We’re scouting enemy movents and terrain secretly—too many people won’t work well. Ye Zhi and I will take the female soldiers; they’ve been trained to draw terrain maps. By spreading out, we can sketch the terrain we encounter and combine it later to create the map of Jingye City’s surroundings. That way, we can return faster." After all, the current goal was clear—capture Jingye City.
Xiao Changyi hesitated briefly before nodding.
"Ye Zi, go inform the female soldiers to rest well tonight—we’ll head into the mountains early tomorrow morning."
"Got it." Ye Zhi turned and walked out.
"And don’t forget to bring everything necessary," An Jing reminded.
Ye Zhi didn’t look back, but replied, "Got it."
After Ye Zhi left, An Jing softened her tone, sat beside Xiao Changyi, and said, "Husband, to prevent the enemy troops from spotting us, we should enter the mountains before dawn tomorrow. But don’t worry—I’ll make sure to protect myself and co back safely."
Xiao Changyi stared at her for a long mont, then sighed, "Your safety is the most important thing. For everything else... do what you can within your ability."
"Mmhmm."
That night, An Jing slept once again in Xiao Changyi’s arms.
At yin hour the next morning, An Jing woke up and got out of bed, and Xiao Changyi got up as well.
Before departing from the Imperial Capital for the expedition, An Jing had already arranged for a batch of camouflage clothes to be rushed out. Although they differed sowhat from modern camouflage, they were still effective in helping conceal oneself in certain environnts.
An Jing took out twelve sets of forest camouflage outfits—one for herself, one for Ye Zhi, and one for each of the ten female soldiers.
Wearing the forest camouflage on their bodies, they would be better protected in the forest, making it harder to be exposed or noticed by predators or the enemy.
There were also forest-colored hats—one for each person.
The twelve won even painted their faces in forest colors using pignt, allowing them to better blend into the dense forests and mountains, avoiding detection. If An Jing and Ye Zhi hadn’t explained the reasoning beforehand, the ten female soldiers would have been completely baffled.
When An Jing was preparing for battle and arranging for the camouflage suits to be made, she had already explained their use to Xiao Changyi. Therefore, at this mont, Xiao Changyi wasn’t surprised at all, and he could still quickly identify which one among the twelve was his wife.
