Chapter 1613: Chapter 1607: Yunlong Temple’s Hidden Depths
“Yes, this is Master De Rui’s residence, benefactor, do you know Master De Rui?” the young monk asked, his expression changing.
“Yes, I know Master De Rui. I thought I’d pay him a visit. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?” Chen Yang replied with a smile.
“Normally, the monastery does not allow disruptions to the master’s ditation. However, since you know the master, it’s different; you may visit,” the young monk answered.
Upon hearing this, Chen Yang said no more and directly walked into the courtyard.
As soon as he entered the courtyard, Chen Yang imdiately saw a disciple under De Rui’s charge.
This disciple had clashed with Chen Yang before, so naturally, he recognized him.
Upon seeing Chen Yang, the disciple was montarily stunned, but soon ca to his senses.
“Are you here to see my master?” the disciple asked.
Noticing the disciple’s sowhat displeased tone, Chen Yang realized it was probably due to lingering resentnt from their past conflict.
However, he didn’t dwell on it since they were no longer on the sa level.
“Yes, I’m here to see Master De Rui.”
Chen Yang nodded in response.
Upon hearing this, the disciple said, “Then please wait a mont while I go and inform my master.”
Saying so, the disciple turned and went inside.
After a minute or two, the door creaked open, and the disciple erged.
“Master said to invite you in for a chat.”
The disciple stood at the door and gestured for him to enter.
Without a word, Chen Yang walked straight in and entered the room.
The room was extrely simple, almost shabby, save for a bed and a few tables and chairs.
However, the cleanliness of the room was impeccable, giving off an aura of purity.
Chen Yang walked in, took a quick glance at his surroundings, and finally fixed his gaze on Master De Rui, seated not far away.
Master De Rui sat cross-legged on the bed, as if ditating.
Realizing Chen Yang had entered, he slowly opened his eyes and a faint smile appeared on his face.
“Chen Yang, my young friend, long ti no see.”
De Rui greeted Chen Yang with a smile and got up from the bed.
Standing his ground, Chen Yang smiled in return, “Old man, it’s indeed been a while.”
“Please, have a seat.”
Ceasing his ditation, De Rui quickly invited Chen Yang to sit at the simple table in the room.
Chen Yang, not standing on ceremony, sat down as he suggested.
Sitting opposite Chen Yang, De Rui picked up the kettle on the table and poured him so tea.
“Chen Yang, my young friend, what brings you to Yunlong Temple today? Is there sothing I can help you with?”
De Rui always rembered owing Chen Yang a favor, hence the question.
Chen Yang smiled and shook his head, “No, I’m just accompanying soone today, nothing special. Passing by, I thought I’d stop and see you.”
“I see.”
Hearing this, a hint of disappointnt flashed in De Rui’s eyes.
Chen Yang understood that the old man was eager to repay his favor, but in truth, he had nothing to request of him.
“My young friend, have so tea.”
“Hmm, okay.”
Chen Yang nodded, picked up the bamboo cup on the table, and began to savor the old man’s tea.
He typically wasn’t fond of such things, but after tasting it, he couldn’t help but nod in approval, praising the tea.
“The flavor of the tea, combined with the natural aroma of the bamboo cup, is quite refreshing.”
Chen Yang nodded repeatedly as he spoke.
Hearing this, De Rui smiled, “Chen Yang, my young friend, you have a good palate. Few can truly appreciate the subtlety of my tea; many think it’s just average.”
“Haha, it’s not about having a refined taste, just that my dical training has made sensitive to such aromas,” Chen Yang laughed humbly, and then continued to chat casually with De Rui.
De Rui first inquired why Chen Yang was there today.
Having been asked a second ti, Chen Yang explained the situation.
He was accompanying Wang Qingyue.
Upon hearing Wang Qingyue’s na, De Rui frowned briefly, then relaxed and nodded with a smile, “That makes sense. Considering age, it’s about ti for the Wang Family’s girl to start her training, to co for the Buddhist Law baptism, and begin her cultivation journey.”
At first, Chen Yang showed little expression, but after hearing De Rui’s words, he couldn’t help but grow curious.
“Buddhist Law baptism, cultivation journey? What does that an?” Chen Yang instinctively looked at De Rui and asked.
De Rui’s expression was initially very natural, but seeing Chen Yang’s surprised expression, he grew puzzled himself.
“Chen Yang, my young friend, since you’re accompanying the Wang Family’s girl, how do you not know about this?” De Rui did not directly answer and instead asked a question in return.
“Although I’m accompanying her, I’m completely in the dark about this. Can you explain what the Buddhist Law baptism ans?”
Chen Yang directly stated.
Seeing that Chen Yang genuinely did not know, De Rui decided to explain.
“Buddhist Law baptism is an arrangent between our Yunlong Temple and the major factions of the provincial capital. In each generation of their families, they can choose two or three outstanding descendants to receive the Buddhist Law baptism at the monastery. This allows them to quickly embark on the path of cultivation, growing at many tis the normal rate.”
De Rui explained to Chen Yang in a calm manner.
The explanation was thorough yet not entirely clear.
Chen Yang understood the gist but lacked crucial information.
Why did Yunlong Temple have agreents with major factions in the provincial capital?
And why does the Buddhist Law baptism allow those so-called descendants to quickly cultivate and enhance their growth speed?
These points were not rationally explained, leaving Chen Yang increasingly puzzled.
“Old man, how does Yunlong Temple associate with the major families in the provincial capital? Isn’t that a bit far-fetched?”
After pondering, Chen Yang voiced his skepticism.
On hearing this, De Rui laughed.
“My young friend, don’t be fooled by our temple’s appearance of seclusion and tranquility. In reality, we have our own separate channels to deal with external matters, and as for our connections with the major families, it’s not convenient to disclose them to you. Just know that our ties with them are nurous.”
De Rui spoke with a hint of mystery, and Chen Yang recognized that there were underlying elents involved.
But since it was inconvenient to disclose, Chen Yang refrained from probing further, considering their relationship wasn’t at the point where all matters could be discussed openly.
“No wonder your disciple could link up with the Gu Family; turns out, you’ve long had connections with the great families.”
Recalling the ti the old man’s disciple tead up with the Gu Family to confront him, Chen Yang remarked.
The old man laughed heartily upon hearing this.
“Chen Yang, my young friend, are you still hung up on that? Actually, it was just a coincidence. When the Gu Family’s offspring ca to our temple for the Buddhist Law baptism, they happened to et my two incorrigible disciples. After so discussion, they agreed to act against you. I have already reprimanded them for this, so please don’t take it to heart,” De Rui explained with a smile.
He thought Chen Yang still harbored feelings about what happened back then.
But in truth, Chen Yang never really cared about it.
He just rembered the incident because of what the old man had ntioned earlier.
