Chapter 1206: Chapter 1203: Matters of Kinship

He took her finger and pressed it to his seductive lips for a kiss, the intimacy of their cheeks rubbing together made her blush deepen, and her body softened considerably.

Unable to resist, she turned around, reached up to embrace his neck, and her nose filled with the familiar scent of the man, which made her heartbeat quicken. The intense masculinity emanating from his hot chest delighted her profoundly.

Perhaps liking someone makes one inevitably yearn to be close to them, even if just to talk.

Ye Muyu leaned contentedly in his arms.

Chu Heng looked down and saw her close her eyes fortably, lazily sprawled over him with a relaxed air that made him feel somewhat helpless.

After kissing Ye Muyu’s forehead, his gaze fell on her abdomen. His long hand moved there as an idea suddenly popped into his mind—when might their child be conceived again?

He closed his eyes, pressing the thought deep into his heart.

For two consecutive days, Ye Muyu kept Chu Heng busy around the house. When she cooked, he was sure to follow behind her, helping to wash vegetables and fruits.

If she dealt with household chores, Chu Heng would certainly sit by her side.

As time passed, Ye Muyu stopped preventing his pany, and the two found themselves with endless topics to discuss, chatting from time to time.

Time flew until it was New Year’s Eve.

The palace banquet started early.

Today male and female family members were seated together, so Chu Heng could bring his wife and mother to the palace.

With Chu Heng by her side, Ye Muyu was much more relaxed than last time, whispering to Madam Liu on the way, like recognizing the names of palaces and such.

When they entered the great hall, the Emperor and the concubines had not yet arrived.

Just as Ye Muyu had said, the location for Chu Heng’s family was remote, next to other third-grade officials and their families.

After Chu Heng seated the two of them, it wasn’t long before a colleague came up to talk to him. He held his wine cup, assured them to be at ease, then left.

Seeing Chu Heng so busy, Ye Muyu didn’t want to cause trouble for him, and stayed fortably at their seats with Madam Liu.

“Mother, try the palace’s pastries. They are a bit cool now but still worth a taste,” Ye Muyu offered a piece of pastry to Madam Liu.

Madam Liu reached out to take it, and just as she bit into it and was about to ment on the good flavor,

She saw several figures standing before them. She quickly set down the pastry and posed herself. In front of her own family, Madam Liu might show her true feelings, but to outsiders, even if it was pretense, she could still present the proper demeanor.

“Madam, is this Mrs. Chu?”

The visitor was Madam Huo.

She had e to the banquet with her daughter Huo Kewen and went straight to Ye Muyu and the other upon seeing them.

“Mother, this is Madam Huo, Lord Huo is my husband’s teacher,” Ye Muyu introduced.

Upon hearing that, Madam Liu felt more at ease, knowing they were their own kind and the conversation flowed more fortably. As the two elders talked, Ye Muyu listened quietly by the side, chiming in from time to time.

The topic gradually shifted to Huo Kewen.

“I must thank Ah Yu for the medicinal instructions. After Ke Wen followed them, she felt much better,” Madam Huo expressed with heartfelt gratitude.

Huo Kewen was holding her hand, her face full of thanks, and her attitude had grown noticeably warmer, “Thank you, sister-in-law.”

Ye Muyu found her warmth somewhat abrupt and wondered if something had happened behind the scenes.

Then she heard Madam Huo say with reluctance, “Ke Wen has already been betrothed to the Luo family, with the wedding set for next March.”

Ye Muyu was startled but also realized what Huo Kewen had decided.

Luo Ting had injured his leg, and it was uncertain if he could stand again. He lost his nascent position in the official circle to his cousin from the second household of the Luo family.
