Chapter 1852: Chapter 1849: A Good Official

Chunqin’s face turned a shade paler: “You… do you truly believe the Prince is innocent?”

Seeing Chunqin’s attitude soften, Chu Heng did not rush her but looked at her calmly.

Chunqin moved her lips slightly, still with some hesitation.

Chu Heng waited calmly.

Chunqin looked at him and ultimately made a decision with gritted teeth: “You are an imperial courtier, how can I be sure you won’t use court affairs to frame the Prince?”

“You can choose to trust me or choose not to trust me.” Rather than persuading her, Chu Heng left the choice to her.

The series of words Chunqin had prepared were choked off by this response.

But in her heart, she slowly leaned toward Chu Heng; the more persuasive he was, the more she would suspect his intentions, yet Chu Heng’s offer to choose made her heart restless with concern for the Prince.

“I… I will say…” Ultimately, Chunqin made up her mind with clenched teeth.

She was already aware of the Nobles in the capital.

If other officials might scheme against the King of Huainan for their own gain, Chu Heng was surely a good official loved by the people, and she believed the Prince to be good too. There was no one but Lord Chu who could clear the Prince’s name.

“The Prince knows nothing of Bai Yao impersonating me; I feared Bai Yao might harm the Prince, which is why I kept it hidden, not daring to reveal a trace.”

“The Prince has been away for years, making it even less likely to discover this.”

Chu Heng raised his hand holding the portrait and showed it to her: “Who is this person?”

“Very familiar, somewhat like Bai Yao.” Chunqin said, furrowing her brows with a pained expression, suddenly blood spilling from her lips.

Chu Heng quickly stepped forward and applied pressure to critical acupuncture points in her body.

He ordered the doctor from the prison to e quickly.

After the doctor used acupuncture, Chunqin’s condition stabilized temporarily, her plexion as pale as paper, pletely exhausted.

“Lord Chu, this girl’s condition is momentarily stable, but her illness is beyond my capabilities to cure. If this continues, I fear there will be no return.” The doctor said with some worry.

Chu Heng nodded and instructed the guard to escort the doctor out.

This was caused by the Gu insect, and an ordinary doctor could not cure it.

“You don’t need to worry, just rest well. You can think slowly and tell me what you can without straining yourself.” Chu Heng said to her.

Chunqin showed some anxiety, “No, listen to me… cough cough…”

“I won’t use your life to obtain evidence; we can study the Gu insect in your body first and respond, there’s no need to rush and risk your life.” Chu Heng’s voice carried a degree of sternness.

Chunqin’s anxious emotions slowly calmed down.

Leaning against the prison wall, she looked at Chu Heng with a plex expression: “Lord Chu, I never expected you would be so kind, even caring about my life.”

Chu Heng cast a faint glance at her: “You overthink; the law will deal with your crimes, I have no right to decide your fate alone.”

“That’s precisely why you’re different from others.” Chunqin sneered with a smile: “Do you believe if it were someone else here, they would not care for the life of a maid, prioritizing profit?”

“But it’s only normal; you care for the people, you’re a good official.”

Chu Heng gave her a glance, pletely ignoring her pliment, because he did not think of himself as a good official, as he had never thought of bending over backward for the people in his heart.

“Why? Don’t you want to admit it?” Chunqin guessed his reaction, couldn’t help but chuckle.
