Now reading: Chapter 56 56: The Primordial Stand from Percy Jackson: The Firstborn, a Action novel by Brotatopotato.

A woman who had once been kind, overprotective toward the people she cared about, gentle but a little bossy, had turned almost overnight into a cold being who only wanted to gather all chakra for herself.

That was too strange.

People do not change from one day to the next. People change because of trauma, because of life, because sothing breaks in them.

That was not what happened with her.

One day she was one person.

The next, she was soone else entirely.

And the strangest part was that nobody seed to notice. Or maybe they did and just ignored it.

Kaguya felt the marks in Damons palms and found that odd, because only one person should have held both. She activated her Byakugan and looked through Damons chakra network, forced to admit that the amount of chakra inside him was absurd even by her standards. Even so, she did not stop there. Her gaze shifted to him fully, and she looked at Damon with an expression that would have frozen any normal person in place.

Damon only smiled.

He had to admit it. Standing in front of a being recognized as a Primordial made the hair on his neck stand up. But ever since the day he started training, he had always carried that need to know just how far above him they really were.

Wave after wave of hair shot toward him.Damon started dodging as fast as he could, coating his body in Lightning chakra and Yin chakra, darkening the lightning to black through the mark in his left hand so it could protect him from the strands he could not avoid, almost like a variation of the Raikage's armor. He ford a Rasengan in his right hand and burst through the hair, trying to close the distance and strike Kaguya directly.

But the closer he got, the more hair ca at him.

Every single step forward felt like he was attacking death itself.

Still, he kept going.

With one last burst of chakra he appeared right in front of her and drove the Rasengan toward her stomach — but more hair shot out and slipped between Kaguya and the attack, grinding the Rasengan down little by little until it vanished. A second later another strand of hair slamd into Damon with brutal force, sending him bouncing across the ground until he crashed into a boulder hard enough to stop him.

Kaguya began descending, and her re presence froze the other three in place. Not one of them could move a single muscle. As she ca down, she noticed sothing else: a strange three-pronged kunai falling beside her. It spun through the air for a second.

Then a red flash appeared.

Damon was there again, this ti charging with a much bigger Rasengan than before.

He sent it straight at Kaguya.

This ti, however, it was not going to be so simple.

Kaguya moved all of her hair to block the attack, but Damon had already started pouring Yin chakra into the Rasengan, darkening it and making it grow larger and heavier. The hair was cut apart with ease as the black Rasengan kept pushing closer and closer. Kaguya activated her Byakugan and thrust both hands forward to stop it, but the mont she made contact, the force of it began driving her backward through the air.

Then Damon added wind to it.

A violent burst of air pushed the giant dark Rasengan even harder, finally breaking Kaguya's balance and launching her back as the attack exploded against her.

Team Seven was left staring in shock.

Damon was actually standing up to a being whose presence alone had frozen them.

Sasuke was the first to move again. The second feeling returned to his body, he charged Kaguya with another Chidori and activated his EMS.

"Amaterasu," the dark-haired Uchiha muttered, and black flas exploded around Kaguya.

Damon only sighed.

Then he created a shadow clone without hand signs, purely so it could save the idiot from himself while the real one kept dealing with the rabbit goddess.

Sasuke dodged the hair attacks with the help of his eyes and took one final step to get close enough, only for Kaguya to look at him with complete contempt, like she was looking at an insect. She activated her Byakugan, and an invisible force blasted him away. Just as she aid a gray bone from her palm straight at his chest, Damon appeared in front of Sasuke and took the hit for him.

The original body started turning to stone.

Damon turned his neck slightly just enough to glance at Sasuke.

"Sasuke... you're annoying," Damon muttered. "Trying to fight a being recognized as a Primordial is already hard enough. Doing it while babysitting you makes it worse. Find a way to stop the tree that's keeping everyone trapped. I'll handle her."

Those were the last words the clone got out before turning completely to stone.

Kaguya saw the three-pronged kunai flying toward her again. Already knowing what would co next, she waited patiently for Damon to appear.

He did not.

She tilted her head just enough to let the kunai pass harmlessly by, and with her Byakugan active she kept watching the battlefield, quickly spotting Damon running at extre speed sowhere else while forming hand signs.

"Mokuton: Mokuryū no Jutsu!"

A giant wood dragon burst out beside Damon and charged with him straight toward Kaguya at the sa speed. Damon lightly touched the dragon and vanished in a red flash. When he appeared again, he was already not far from Kaguya, building another Rasengan with Lava chakra. The temperature around him began rising sharply.

Thanks to her Byakugan, Kaguya saw him reappear behind her. She imdiately spun to face him while using her hair to deal with the wood dragon at the sa ti. Chakra gathered in her palms and she struck forward with two gray bones just as Damon, caught in the middle of his own montum, extended the Lava Rasengan toward her neck.

Then she disappeared.

A portal of darkness swallowed her.

At the sa ti, the space around Damon suddenly turned freezing cold. He found himself completely surrounded by ice, and only then understood what had happened.

It was really getting serious now.

Kaguya had stopped underestimating him.

Which was terrible news.

Damon saw a dark portal opening beside Kaguya as she slipped into another dinsion. He could already feel her reappearing sowhere beyond the ice. He needed to break out before she attacked again, so he ordered one of the Truth-Seeking Orbs to shield him while he intentionally let the Lava Rasengan destabilize in his hand, forcing a lava explosion to lt everything around him.

Kaguya saw the burst of lava and pulled back. With her Byakugan she tried to see through the steam, but there were too many chakra particles everywhere for her vision to stay perfectly clear. Her instincts scread at her just in ti. Six black orbs ca flying toward her at high speed. She barely managed to avoid them, then gathered chakra into her hands and shoved everything around her backward at once, creating a massive black wall that blocked the attack.

Then she opened another portal to her right and started reaching through it.

At that sa mont, a second black portal appeared behind Damon.

A pale hand shot out from it, trying to grab him.

And behind Damon, a giant claw of chakra burst into existence and moved to crush it

Both Kaguya and Damon could agree on one thing... this battle was going to be long.
