In the darkness, Lingze groggily ca to his senses.
He didn't know how long he had been unconscious, but the ropes tightly wrapped around him clearly told him that he was still in danger.
Everything around seed quiet. Where was Black Mantis? And where were the people guarding him?
As his consciousness slowly returned, the emptiness in his stomach brought on a feeling of hunger.
He hadn't eaten for two days. No wonder he was so hungry.
The wound from his severed injury still throbbed faintly. Trying to struggle a bit, Lingze found that the way the ropes were tied left him with no leverage.
Were they all asleep already? If he could break free from the ropes now, he might have a chance to escape.
But, he was so hungry, with no strength left in his body.
"Soone, soone..."
His voice was hoarse and weak.
"Is anyone there? I need water, I need food, I need to use the toilet..."
Lingze continued to shout desperately. His mouth hadn't been forcibly gagged, and the room was soundproof. So, even if he cried for help, his voice wouldn't be heard outside.
Just then, soone pushed the door open and ca in.
'Click'
A sudden burst of glaring light pierced the darkness. Lingze squinted, trying to see who had entered the room.
Two strangers he had never t before. Although he hadn't seen them before, they must be related to Black Mantis.
Wasn't Black Mantis here? Where had he gone? What ti was it today? Could it be that they had already gone to find Muto?
A myriad of questions swirled in Lingze's mind, but he knew that even if he wanted to ask, he wouldn't get any answers from the two standing before him.
These two gave him a sowhat familiar feeling. Yes, that aura of killing was just like the assassins of Red Butterfly. If he wasn't mistaken, these two were linked to the Hidden Assassination Squad within Yanhuang Soul.
Black Mantis's concealnt was truly deep. On the surface, they seed through with Yanhuang Soul, but secretly, people from the Hidden Assassination Squad still sided with him. It was truly a tactic of confusion.
"What are you yelling for?"
One of the two n shouted at Lingze, still clouded by sleepiness. Clearly, he was not pleased that his sweet dream had been interrupted by Lingze's voice.
"I want water..." Lingze said blandly.
"None."
Clearly, as long as he wasn't dying of thirst or hunger, they weren't going to give him any water or food.
"Wait a minute." As the n were about to turn and leave, Lingze hurriedly shouted again, "Can I at least use the toilet?"
Everyone has basic needs. Since Lingze had been confined for so many days, they agreed, as even without food or water, eventually, fluids would accumulate in his bladder.
Hearing this, the two mbers of the Hidden Assassination Squad exchanged glances with a hint of helplessness. Then, one of them ca over, untied his hands from behind the chair, and tied them again in front.
When the ropes were initially being untied, Lingze thought that if he got the chance, he might be able to take down the two n before him. But he worried there might be others in the house. Still, it was worth trying if he could...
But before the ropes were fully untied, a pair of handcuffs were placed on his hands. Also, the toothpick he hid on his body was gone, taken without him knowing.
The fatigue, combined with the pain from his wounds, piled together to completely dispel any thoughts of escape.
However, that didn't an Lingze had completely given up the idea of escaping.
Outside the hall, without encountering anyone else, Lingze didn't feel any sign of a fourth person in the house as he approached the bathroom.
Where did they all go?
No matter what, right now was truly his best chance to escape.
With handcuffs and ropes binding his hands, the door slightly ajar, and two formidable opponents outside.
What should he do? How could he escape?
Clunk. Just then, Lingze noticed a ventilation duct in the bathroom. His eyes suddenly lit up with a spark of hope.
"Hey, are you done yet?" The mber of the Hidden Assassination Squad outside the door impatiently asked.
"I can't go, haven't eaten in so long, just give a mont," Lingze stalled, while searching for a way to break free of the ropes.
Typically, magicians have a way of positioning their hands with a certain outward arc when tied, and yes, when the ropes were retied, Lingze had ensured his hands were fixed in that position. Getting free of the ropes wouldn't be hard.
As for the handcuffs, that could be dealt with later; once out of the room, there would be ways to unlock them.
He had to get out, must get out.
Lingze moved quietly. The wire netting on the ventilation duct was rusty, but the two outside had keen senses and would rush in at the slightest hint of trouble.
Given his condition, he'd have to rely on surprising them in a sneak attack to take them out. Otherwise, any scuffle would see him easily overpowered, and if anyone from Black Mantis returned during the attempt, it would be disastrous.
Unless absolutely necessary, Lingze wanted to avoid a confrontation with the two. After all, with his hands in handcuffs, he'd be at a disadvantage in a fight.
The other end of the rope was tugged slightly. Lingze knew they were checking if he was still there. Faced with such alert opponents, he dared not act rashly.
"Don't pull, I'm about to... um..." Lingze bluffed again to the two outside the door, while continuing to climb upward, slowly prying open the wire netting. He poked his head through and began inching out.
He was out, finally out.
But he hadn't escaped danger yet. As long as he remained nearby, there was a risk of being recaptured.
One step, two steps, three steps... Lingze quickly scaled down the floors.
At last, his feet hit the ground.
The feeling was absolutely exhilarating.
The residential area wasn't well-lit, which was ideal for Lingze.
"Quick, he escaped."
Just as Lingze ran over fifty ters, a cry rang out from the upper floor. They had finally realized he was gone. Startled, Lingze hastened his pace.
Feeling light-headed with weak legs, he realized his Inner Strength couldn't keep up anymore. He was too weak, far too weak. If only he could find a car right now, it would be perfect.
Yes, a car... But at barely past four in the morning, where could he find one?
Just then, as Lingze reached the highway, a taxi slowly approached from the opposite direction.
Seeing the taxi, Lingze felt as if he'd found a lifeline. His expression was sheer ecstatic joy.
"Sir, where do you need to go?"
Lingze flung the car door open and climbed in, quickly shouting, "Go, soone's trying to kill ! Take to the nearest police station, quickly! As fast as you can, hurry."
"Yes, yes..."
