Now reading: Chapter 43 - 42: Who’s Fooling Who? from Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System, a Fantasy novel by Caged Bird Yearns for the Forest.

This was sothing Levi wanted to figure out.

After all, what era was this? If this group of Feder Remnants hadn’t yet faced reality and still considered themselves royalty, Levi didn’t mind helping them see the truth.

"Actually, we’ve long been no different from the savages in the Kas Mountain Range."

Baisitina gave a bitter smile.

To successfully find a patron for her people, she had no choice but to shalessly embellish her own status.

Even bringing the news about this Wilderness Alliance Army was part of her pledge of allegiance.

"I get it."

Levi understood now why Baisitina had deliberately given herself the title of a Feder Kingdom Princess. It was simply to increase her own value in the hope of receiving better treatnt.

It was just like how he had nad his own territory High Cliff Castle.

It didn’t matter if there was a cliff or a castle; at least the na was out there.

In the future, people might be drawn by the na and co to join High Cliff Castle. Even if they arrived and found it different from the rumors...

...based on the "since I’m already here" ntality, they probably wouldn’t leave right away.

rchants from his past life were well-versed in this trick. A worthless rock, no different from glass, could be sold for tens of thousands just by slapping it with a label representing eternal love.

They could have just robbed you blind, but instead, they insisted on giving you a worthless rock.

"Tina, how long do you think it will take for this Wilderness Alliance Army to organize and reach High Cliff Castle?"

"My Lord, my na is Baisitina," Baisitina weakly reminded the Lord.

"Alright, Tina," Levi nodded, indicating he understood.

He’d never been a fan of long, cumberso nas. As a pure Huaxia in his past life, he could never rember these kinds of Western nas.

So he’d taken the liberty of shortening it.

Seeing that she couldn’t change the Lord’s mind, Baisitina sighed almost imperceptibly before seriously considering her answer.

"It won’t be fast. These Wilderness Natives have always been the type to take advantage but never suffer a loss. They’ll probably spend ten days just squabbling over who gets to lead this Alliance Army."

"They really are a motley crew, not even as organized as bandits or robbers. But High Cliff Castle won’t let its guard down just because we underestimate the enemy. Since we know they’re coming, starting tomorrow, Hog and the others will have to work a little harder. Have them split into two shifts and patrol the north day and night."

Levi said, wiping his mouth.

Only now did the value of the Jackal Wolfman Scouts beco apparent. Being mounted, they could completely control a radius of over fifty li around High Cliff Castle.

With the wind in their favor, their naturally sensitive noses could even detect enemy tracks from ten li away, providing tily intelligence to High Cliff Castle.

This would keep enemy movents beyond the fifty-li mark, giving High Cliff Castle ample ti to prepare.

It also allowed them to constantly monitor the enemy’s whereabouts.

If the two-legged Barbarians were acting as scouts and patrols, the range they could control would only be five li.

In other words, the Barbarians would probably only spot the enemy when their main force was already at the castle walls.

Since ancient tis, large-scale wars have been won and lost on information disparity. That was why Levi placed such great importance on the intelligence-gathering Jackal Wolf Scout cavalry.

To that end, whenever he had ti, he would often teach Hog about these matters.

...

"Hahaha..."

As if struck by a thought, Levi suddenly threw his head back and let out three loud laughs.

Zat, startled by his boss’s sudden fit of madness, choked, his eyes rolling back. He had to take a large gulp of water to recover.

Baisitina was also taken aback and asked weakly:

"My Lord, why do you laugh?"

"I laugh at..."

Realizing he was getting sidetracked, Levi coughed twice and changed the subject.

"Ahem, to be honest, I was worried about how troubleso it would be to deal with them one by one since they’re so scattered. I never thought they’d actually dare to gather together. This is perfect for wiping them all out in one fell swoop!"

Levi made a gesture of opening his palm and then clenching it into a fist, looking extrely pleased with himself.

"By the way, Tina, are these ten or so Warriors all you have?"

Levi asked.

The Feder Remnants had lived in the Kas Mountain Range for so many years; Levi didn’t believe there were so few of them left.

"Too many people would have slowed us down, so we ca ahead. There are about seventy more Warriors behind us. They should arrive tomorrow."

"What about your won and children? It’s impossible that you only have Warriors left, right?"

Levi continued to press.

He was desperate to know just how many people were in Baisitina’s branch of the Feder Remnants.

If there were over ten thousand, he would have struck gold.

"Them?" Baisitina blinked, her sapphire eyes looking so pure and innocent. "Because there are so many of them, and they also have to herd the livestock and move supplies, they’re moving very slowly. It’ll probably take them several more days to arrive."

Levi looked at her simple, little-girl-like face and instantly understood everything. ’This girl is hedging her risks.’

’If he refused to accept these Feder Remnants, even if a conflict broke out, her group was mostly made up of Warriors. They could flee without suffering much of a loss.’

’Plus, with the Wilderness Alliance Army about to attack, if he successfully defeated them, the Feder Remnants would naturally join High Cliff Castle.’

’But if the Wilderness Alliance Army defeated him, Baisitina’s group would at most lose a few Warriors and could simply move on to find another patron.’

’Who would’ve thought? Who would’ve thought... This little girl looked so young and naive, but she was just like him—cunning as a fox, with more sches than you could count.’

’Who’s really the fool these days?’

’If you weren’t careful and actually believed appearances, you’d suffer a huge loss.’

"Alright, then. Just rember to notify each other when the ti cos to avoid any mix-ups." Levi couldn’t really bla them for this little sche.

After all, they had still brought nearly a hundred Warriors to fight and die for him against the Wilderness Alliance Army.

If they had truly just paid lip service, played both sides, and only placed their bet after he had already succeeded, then he would not have tolerated it.

The eting concluded perfectly. Both sides were very satisfied with the conversation, and Baisitina and her people successfully settled in High Cliff Castle for the ti being.

Fortunately, Levi had long anticipated that High Cliff Castle’s population would grow, so he had already built many extra log cabins.

Although the cabins’ appearance was hard to describe in a good way, they were perfectly fine for living in.

On this point, Baisitina ntioned that her tribe had carpenters skilled in construction who could oversee future building projects, which ca as a pleasant surprise to Levi.

High Cliff Castle was in desperate need of such talented people right now.

In an excellent mood, Levi couldn’t help but open the party interface to check Baisitina’s status.

To his surprise, Baisitina was actually a Heroic Unit—sothing not even Liya was.

Then again, the two of them weren’t really comparable. Baisitina was the Clan Leader of a tribe at such a young age, and judging by the attitude of the other Feder Remnants, her prestige was also extrely high.

It was clear she couldn’t have achieved that without so special talent.

The only thing worth ntioning about Liya was that she was the granddaughter of a Duke with inheritance rights, and perhaps a little bit clever.

As for her other talents, it seed they were things any daughter of a nobleman would know.
