Many people know what happened in the Zeta Technology Mansion, but most were just there to watch the drama unfold.
After all, similar things were not uncommon in Night City. Companies going against companies, companies against rcenaries, snatching technology, poaching talents, or even shooting down hovercars was an everyday spectacle. Stirring up so noise was hardly surprising.
But the move Zeta Technology got hit with this ti was really below the belt, and it was hard not to laugh.
anwhile, on a rooftop in the distance, a group of rcenaries stood by a hovercar, fretting over the Zeta Technology Mansion.
A tall female rcenary held binoculars, complaining,
"Rescue… and inside the Zeta Technology building… ti's so tight, how do we rescue? By the ti we get there, the body might already be rotting…"
They'd taken on corporate jobs before, but they at least had a few days to prepare. This ti, Rogers contacted them last night, wanting them to work today, leaving no ti for any prior arrangents.
Not to ntion that now Zeta Technology was on alert due to a busted sewage pipe. It was difficult to get in at all.
The rcenary leader, leaning against the hovercar and smoking, remained calm. To him, there might still be a chance. After all, how could a well-functioning sewage system just explode?
Besides, rcenary jobs in Night City weren't easy to co by these days. Several big gangs had been overturned together, and the low-level black and gray industries had been wiped clean.
If soone needed to teach a less obedient person a lesson, they would go to Horizon rcenaries, hang up a bounty, and within minutes, the target would be in custody, highly efficient.
So would pay to trouble Horizon rcenaries, but it usually ended badly, and few lived to collect the reward.
Money's hard to earn, shit's hard to eat, but this job had to be done.
Soon, a roaring sound suddenly ca from the sky behind them. It was the noise of a hovercar engine.
But isn't the company plaza under martial law?
Who's daring enough to do this?
They looked up to see a hideous hovercar, with god knows how many steel plates welded onto it and two extra hover engines stuffed at the back—an illegally modified rogue car.
Moreover, the rcenaries noticed that the hovercar was flying directly toward Zeta Technology.
The leader realized the chance had co and imdiately tossed his cigarette butt to the ground.
"Quick! Get in the car, follow them."
The driver was in a hurry, fidgeting. The hovercar was borrowed from Rogers, so he didn't dare drive recklessly.
Following the hovercar at a distance, they could vaguely see the black hole logo on its side.
The rcenary leader suddenly realized it all made sense; whatever those people did was perfectly normal.
"Damn it, I knew it. Surely it's those lunatics doing this. Only they would have the guts. I heard the Voodoo Gang was also screwed over by them, that haunted place still reeks after half a year."
The female rcenary, seeing the hovercar didn't intend to slow down, was startled: "Zeta Technology has anti-air missiles, are they crazy to just rush in like that?"
A squad rcenary explained over the channel: "The anti-air system should be ssed up. Zeta Technology's data fortress seems to be under a high-intensity data attack, they're busy firefighting everywhere."
"But how does he plan to get in? Zeta Technology won't just let him land on the roof that easily."
The big guy answered the female rcenary's question with action.
Isn't it just a big door?
Why not just crash it open?
A push on the throttle, and six engines roared out blue fla, the entire hovercar shot forward a long way.
Doesn't this car have brakes?
The rcenary driver cursed silently at the sight, not daring to follow closely because they were already near the Zeta Technology building, and there was no avoiding at this speed.
But the big guy didn't plan on dodging at all. He released the control stick, half of his body popped out of the cockpit, shouldering a rocket from the Netherworld Dog's warehouse and aiming it at the half-open gate on the 37th floor.
"Damn you! If you don't want to die, stay away from the door!"
Pulling the trigger, the rocket whooshed with a trail of flas, slamming into the gate.
High-explosive warheads aren't the best at armor penetration, but they are excellent at destroying covers. The inward-bending gate perfectly absorbed most of the blast's force, resulting in a massive gap, with shrapnel flying everywhere, even the connecting chanical devices were twisted and deford by the explosion.
Yet it wasn't enough for the modded hovercar to get through. But the next mont, an even larger shell directly collided with the shattered gate.
The previous explosion and flying debris had already terrified the nurses. Now, a steel hovercar ramd the gate head-on, the sound of tal bending and tearing made souls tremble. It lasted less than a second before the chanical behemoth burst through the fragile defense, storming into the landing pad.
Like a ho-invading robber tearing open the door and forcefully breaking into soone's house without the owner's consent.
"Ah!!!"
Sparks screeched under the hovercar's belly as it skidded on the floor, the deafening noise made Brother Ni cover his ears, and the nurses scread as they fled in panic, afraid they might be crushed into at paste by this chanical behemoth.
After skidding dozens of ters, the machine gradually decelerated under the force of its engines and ca to a stop.
Brother Ni, also startled, pointed and jokingly cursed at the big guy climbing out of the cockpit,
"Can you not be so reckless? Who would dare ride with Brother Xun in the future? And if the car crashes, wouldn't we all die here?"
