~Third POV~
[Hoenn Region, Pokémon League (Hoenn) – Champion's Room]
The current score: Steven 2 Pokémon left. Azure 3 Pokémon left.
The stage was cracked and scarred by the previous exchanges. Azure now had his fifth Pokémon on the field, the behemoth Alpha Slaking. It had been a tactical monster, currently asleep and benefiting from the Counter Status Condition—a custom move activation that would trigger a devastating Counter if hit by a Physical Move.
Crucially, Slaking was at full health and boasted a phenonal 4 Attack boost from the earlier setup. But it was still asleep currently.
Steven, however, had spent the last few turns calculating the exact pattern of Slaking's Truant-Sleep tactic. If Slaking awoke during a Truant turn, it would imdiately use the custom 'Yawn' status to put Steven's active Pokémon to sleep, restarting the terrifying cycle.
Steven internally reaffird his decision, clenching his fifth Poké Ball as he thought cautiously, 'I have a plan, but it requires flawless coordination to turn this match around. tagross is the trump card, saved for the final clash. Ti to show Azure the true depth of the Hoenn Champion.'
Steven called, sending out his fifth Pokémon, "Cradily, it's your ti!"
*Pop*
The ancient, plant-like creature unfurled itself onto the battlefield. It's held item a [Expert Belt] glinted, signaling serious intent against Azure's powerful lineup.
Azure frowned, recognizing the defensive monster. Steven started imdiately, ordered, "Cradily, establish your defenses! Use Ingrain!"
*RMBL*
Cradily rooted itself instantly into the scarred stage floor. Its serpentine neck swayed as green energy rushed through it, anchoring it permanently to the ground and beginning a steady stream of passive health restoration.
Azure, needing action but constrained by Slaking's state, issued the only available command, "Slaking, Sleep Talk!!"
The Slaking stirred, issuing a guttural sound, yet remaining asleep. The random move generated by Sleep Talk was Endure. The move was executed, but achieved nothing at that mont, as no attack was incoming.
Azure's frown deepened. Sleep Talk was a gamble getting a random move, and luck was currently favoring the Hoenn Champion.
Steven seized the opening and ordered, "Stockpile! Consolidate your position!"
*Shiii*
Cradily obeyed, its body hardening as it banked energy. Defense and Special Defense instantly surged by 1 Stage.
Azure urged, needing a destructive move imdiately, "Sleep Talk, Slaking!"
Slaking shifted again. This ti, the resulting move was Counter. Again, harmlessly executed against no opponent.
Steven let out a small, relieved breath. The longer he survived without taking a hit, the higher Cradily's defenses would climb.
Steven's voice was sharp, "Now, Cradily! Psych Up!"
*Shiii*
Cradily focused, drawing upon the imnse, built-up power radiating from the sleeping ape. In a flash of crimson psychic energy, Cradily mirrored Slaking's offensive output, gaining Azure's massive 4 Attack Stage boost.
Azure muttered, gritting his teeth, realizing the danger, "He'll hit like a truck now… Slaking, Sleep Talk!"
But fate finally intervened. Slaking grumbled, rubbing its eyes, and abruptly woke up, causing Sleep Talk to fail.
Steven cursed internally. His luck had run out.
Slaking was fully awake, focused, and carrying a devastating Attack boost. Azure finally cracked a grin, ordering, "Finally! Strong Style ga Punch! Straight through that shell!"
*Zoooom*
The Alpha Slaking roared, its massive fist drawing back, ready to deliver a blow that would shatter plate steel. Steven, having studied Slaking's pattern, knew this was its attack turn before the Truant state set in.
Having known the pattern, he countered, "Cradily, Protect! Now!"
*CLANG*
A shimring blue energy shield erupted around Cradily just as the ga Punch landed. The impact shook the entire octagonal chamber, sending fine dust flying, but the shield held, absorbing the terrifying physical blow completely.
Slaking recoiled, the effort draining. It stood frozen, entering the mandatory Truant state. But this ti, Steven knew he had to use chance carefully.
Steven capitalized on the free turn given rcilessly ordered, "Stockpile again, Cradily! Push those defenses to the limit!"
*Shiii*
Cradily reinforced itself, its physical state boosting another 1. Total defense stages were now 2 Special Defense and Defense.
Azure knew he couldn't let up. Now Slaking freed, he commanded fiercely, "Ice Punch! Aim for the core!"
*Zoooom*
Slaking lunged forward, its fist coated in ice to prepare its Ice Punch attack. But Steven countered, "Dig, Cradily! Get below the surface!"
*Rmbl*
Cradily sank rapidly into the scorched earth, just as Slaking's icy fist slamd down where the ancient Pokémon once stood. Slaking looked around, confused by the vanishing act, and promptly entered its Truant turn as Cradily remained underground.
*Rmbl*
Steven smiled, watching the tir tick. Cradily surfaced a safe distance away and imdiately perford another Stockpile for the third ti, maxing out its defensive boosts at 3 in Defense and Special Defense.
Azure quickly realized Steven had completely deciphered his tactical pattern, using Protect and Dig to cover the mandatory Truant periods while building Cradily into an immovable object. Azure was conflicted about keeping or recalling Slaking.
Azure took the risk of utilizing Slaking's 4 Attack stats boost. Azure roared, prioritizing offense over safety, "Stop the setup, Slaking! Giga Impact!"
*ZOOOOM*
Slaking lunged across the stage, cloaked in blinding orange energy. The force of the impending collision threatened to destabilize the arena.
Steven commanded, his voice perfectly level, "Protect!"
*CLANG*
The shield appeared, thicker and stronger this ti, thanks to the stacked Stockpile boosts. The Giga Impact detonated against it, the pressure wave slamming into Cradily, but the creature remained unscathed—though Slaking was now perilously close to the rooted Cradily.
Slaking recoiled, locked into its recharge/Truant turn. Steven's voice was sharp, exploiting the free turn, "Leech Seed, Cradily!"
*Pew*
Cradily launched several glowing seeds. They attached themselves to Slaking's massive body, imdiately drawing vitality from the ape and sending it back to Cradily, compensating for the damage it's done.
Azure gritted his teeth. But with the free turn arriving, he commanded, "Agile Style Ice Punch! Hit it now!"
Before Slaking could even wind up, Steven delivered a calculated blow, "Power Whip! Ensnare it with Wrap!"
*WHIP*
Faster than expected, Cradily's powerful, leafy tentacles shot out. Fueled by the stored energy and the 4 Attack boost stolen from Slaking, they struck hard.
*SMACK*
*SMACK*
The blow was solid, battering the Slaking multiple tis before the tentacles proceeded to wrap tightly around the gargantuan body. Slaking groaned, struggling futilely against the green, binding restraints.
The Counter Status Condition was triggered by the physical strike, but the wrap prevented the required movent to execute the devastating return hit. The Alpha Slaking was bound and neutralized.
Azure's stomach dropped. He was losing control.
Steven, on the other hand, smirked, finally regaining control of the battle. He ordered, "Infestation, Cradily! Lock it down!"
*Poof*
A cloud of dark energy enveloped Slaking, further restricting its movent and beginning the slow, agonizing process of attrition. Slaking was now suffering triple damage: Leech Seed draining, the physical constriction of the Wrap bindings (Wrap/Power Whip), and the continuous chip damage of Infestation.
Azure frantically sought an exit. Finally, a free turn arrived, ordered, "Slaking, Rest!"
Slaking obeyed imdiately, collapsing into a deep, recuperative sleep, instantly healing from the chip damage given, including the binding and the seeds. Steven was prepared this ti, though.
He knew the imdiate consequence of Rest: the mandatory use of Yawn upon waking. He quickly ordered, "Protect, Cradily! Shield yourself!"
*YAWNNN*
*CLANG*
Slaking opened its mouth, releasing a Yawn effect. But the blue barrier flashed up, keeping Cradily safe from the drowsy side effects of Yawn.
Steven used his free turn strategically, ordering, "Tickle, Cradily!"
Luminescent tendrils reached out and playfully, but effectively, reduced Slaking's stats. Slaking's imnse power began to fade, losing -1 Stage in Attack and Defense.
Azure was desperate again. He couldn't recall Slaking due to Wrap and was left with only one choice but to battle on. He ordered, "Sleep Talk!"
*SHIII*
Slaking twitched. A blinding surge of destructive energy welled up in its mouth…
*PEW*
The move selected was Hyper Beam. Steven, seeing the imminent blast, didn't flinch. He smirked as he countered, "Mirror Coat! Send it back!"
*CLANG*
A kaleidoscopic barrier ford in front of Cradily. The Hyper Beam crashed into it, and the barrier instantly absorbed and redirected the energy, magnifying it exponentially…
*PEW*
The redirected blast—now a rainbow-colored torrent of pure damage—slamd directly into the sleeping Slaking. An explosion engulfed it as it was heavily damaged.
*BOOOM*
Slaking recoiled violently, its health significantly depleted but still clinging to life. Steven ordered sharply, "Finish it, Cradily, Energy Ball!"
*PEW*
A concentrated orb of pure green energy struck the weakened Slaking. The force was too much for Slaking to handle.
*KA-BOOOM*
The Alpha Pokémon shuddered one last ti, the sheer exhaustion overcoming its powerful constitution, and fell motionless on the scarred arena floor. Azure slowly recalled the powerhouse, his expression grim.
Steven had accomplished the near-impossible—defeating a fully buffed, Alpha-potential Slaking with only a defensive status specialist. Steven thought internally, allowing himself a montary sigh of relief, 'He got lucky with that Sleep Talk sequence first, but luck is just another layer of strategy in this League…'
Steven complinted Azure, genuinely impressed by his tactics as he spoke happily, "A magnificent performance, Azure. To manage a Pokémon with such raw, untad power is remarkable. But my Pokémon has always been known as a master of defense, and Cradily proved that today against you."
Azure clipped the Slaking's Poké Ball back onto his belt. He then reached for his fifth weapon—a Pokémon that Steven knew intimately as he replied calmly, "Yeah. But this guy got through so deep trouble, and I figured I'd show my thanks by demonstrating exactly how strong he's beco."
*Pop*
*Thud*
Azure sent out his fifth Pokémon. The ground trembled slightly as the massive, tallic form of tagross materialized. Its four brains pulsed with contained psychic energy, and the [Expert Belt] around its body shimred.
Steven smiled broadly, a look of true pride mixing with competitive fire, and said happily, "tagross. It's hard to believe how long ago I gave you that Beldum, Azure. It looks powerful, brilliant, and clearly ready to challenge its origins."
Azure gave a brief nod as he replied respectfully, "Indeed. Steven, prepare for the zenith of Steel and Psychic potential."
Steven grinned, feeling excited, "I wouldn't expect anything less."
Azure wasn't wasting any ti. He knew Cradily needed to be eliminated imdiately before Ingrain and Leech Seed could restore the damage taken.
Azure rattled off the unique four-move command, instructing the four brains of tagross to act in perfect simultaneous harmony, "tagross, full power! Agility! Cosmic Power! Magnet Rise! Hone Claws!"
*SHIII*
In a display of unparalleled cognitive ability, tagross executed the commands. It boosted its speed (Agility); hardened its body (Cosmic Power); levitated slightly, becoming immune to ground moves (Magnet Rise); and sharpened its focus (Hone Claws). It was ready for total offense and defense.
Steven's smile remained fixed as he saw the tactic, as he says casually, "Ah, that old favorite tactic. It never fails to impress. But Cradily is slippery. Rock Polish!"
*Shiii*
Cradily's shell gained a sudden, glossy sheen as its speed increased by 1 Stage, attempting to counter tagross's initial Agility boost. Azure attacked first, ordering, "Strong Style Psychic! Overwhelm its defenses!"
*SHIII*
A concentrated, shimring blue wave of psychic energy slamd into Cradily. The attack scored a direct hit, causing Cradily to shudder violently, but the stacked 3 Special Defense buffs absorbed a remarkable amount of the impact.
Imdiately, Ingrain began to slowly restore Cradily's lost health. Steven imdiately countered, "teor Beam! Launch!"
*PEW*
Cradily focused, drawing stellar energy into its core. The gathering light was intensely bright, briefly blinding the tagross and Azure through the sheer intensity.
Azure recognized the devastating, charged move countered, "Fight light with light! tagross! Strong Style Flash Cannon!"
*PEW*
tagross unleashed a devastating beam of pure tallic light. It collided with the incoming sphere of stellar energy, and the resulting chemical reaction was horrific. A massive explosion engulfed the center of the stage, sending shrapnel and dust high into the air, injuring both Pokémon and leaving the octagonal arena truly ravaged.
*KA-BOOOM*
Steven complinted, shielding his eyes from the residual light, "Quick thinking, Azure! But Cradily is anchored. Now, Power Whip!"
Hearing Steven's voice issuing commands, Azure countered, "Ice Punch, tagross! Strike through the smoke!"
*KRACKLE*
The air cleared quickly. Cradily was already retaliating, tentacles whipping out like green lightning speed.
*WHIP*
tagross dodged several initial strikes, the increased speed from Agility saving it, and wound up for its icy punch. However, Cradily was rooted and far more experienced in close-quarters vegetal combat.
*WHIP*
It batted the Ice Punch aside with one tentacle before battering tagross repeatedly with the remaining vines, flinging the massive Steel/Psychic-type into the ground near Azure's feet. tagross hauled itself up, groaning, "ta… (Son of a fertilizer…)"
It was severely battered, and Cradily was already seeing its Ingrain and Stats boost its survivability. Azure knew he had to end this in the next exchange as he thought, 'I must break through its anchor. I need a precision strike followed by an imdiate counter-defense.'
Steven sensed the shift in Azure's tactics. His eyes hardened as he commanded, "Rock Blast! Barrage!"
*RMBL*
Cradily gathered five large stones and prepared to launch them. Azure knew speed was key as he intercepted, "Strong Style Bullet Punch! Strike first!"
*ZOOOM*
tagross launched itself forward, its fist traveling faster than the eye could track, crashing into Cradily's core before the stones were even thrown. The impact was critical, cracking Cradily's shell further.
*BAM*
Just as the stones were subsequently launched by the shaken Cradily, Azure delivered his final, masterful command, "Telekinesis! Use the rocks!"
*SHIII*
tagross's eyes glowed sapphire blue. The five launched stones froze in mid-air. tagross then seized them, not just stopping them, but redirecting their trajectory. The rocks were hurled back with trendous psychic force…
*SMASH*
… slamming into Cradily's exposed body with a force greater than their original launch. But the final act of the command was the most stunning.
*SHIII*
Before Cradily could react, tagross used the remaining psychic power to wrap the ancient creature's Power Whip tentacles around its own body, binding and restricting Cradily's main ans of attack and defense.
Steven stared, thoroughly impressed by this tactic as he thought, 'This maneuver—simultaneously deflecting, redirecting ammunition, and preemptively neutralizing the opponent's weapon—that's the mark of a true Champion.'
Azure roared, "Now, tagross! Iron Head!"
*ZOOOOM*
tagross focused all its mass and montum into a single point, surging forward. Its heavily armored head, now a steel weapon, connected squarely with the immobilized Cradily head.
*SLAM*
The super-effective strike slamd through the weakened, status-bound Pokémon. Cradily let out a wail that sounded like grinding shale, and the ancient creature finally crumbled, collapsing onto the arena floor, defeated.
*Thud*
Steven slowly recalled Cradily, the [Expert Belt] clinking softly as the Poké Ball closed. He clipped it back onto his belt, his expression now serious, devoid of casual pleasantries.
Steven declared, sweeping his gaze across the stage, which now featured two of the most powerful Pokémon in their respective arsenals, "Magnificent! Absolutely brilliant tactical use of Telekinesis, Azure. The tagross I gave you has certainly exceeded all my expectations."
Azure's tagross, battered but victorious, hovered proudly, "ta! (Thanks!)"
Steven now had only one Pokémon remaining—his true ace. Azure had two: tagross and the agile Sceptile waiting in reserve.
The Hoenn Champion reached for the final Poke Ball on his belt, its polished surface catching the harsh light of the arena. Steven said, his voice firm, "Azure, you have forced my hand. This is it. The ultimate clash."
The Champion's final Poké Ball glead ominously as he prepared to send out his ace. A single, powerful pulse of light erupted from the sphere, revealing a majestic, gleaming form as Steven roared, "Go, tagross!"
*Pop*
Standing before Azure's tagross was a truly awe-inspiring sight: Steven's Alpha Shiny tagross. Its crystalline blue-green body shimred under the light, an unparalleled specin of its species.
It held a [tagrossite], a clear indication of the power it possessed. Steven's ace, though it had taken so light damage from Azure's Sceptile in previous skirmishes, looked to be in pri condition, its four powerful legs poised for battle.
Azure gulped, a rare sign of apprehension. Internally, he knew this was it. The final stretch of his Hoenn journey.
Defeat Steven's ace, and the Hall of Fa awaits. This wasn't just a battle; it was the culmination of everything he had worked for.
Azure commanded, his voice firm despite his internal thoughts, "tagross, Agile Style Shadow Ball!"
*CRACKLE*
Azure's tagross, its four brains working in perfect synchronized thought, gathered dark energy and unleashed a potent Shadow Ball. But Steven was ready.
Steven's voice was calm, utterly confident, "Psychic, tagross! Redirect!"
*Shiii*
Steven's tagross glowed with psychic energy, its four brains effortlessly seizing control of Azure's Shadow Ball. With a flick of its powerful aura, it sent the dark orb arcing upwards, harmlessly dissipating into the ceiling.
Azure pressed on, eyes narrowed as he ordered, "Now, tagross, focus! Reflect, Light Screen, Miracle Eye, and Pursuit!"
*SHIII*
He called out four moves in rapid succession, a testant to his tagross's multi-brained processing. Azure's tagross humd with power. A shimring barrier of light, Reflect, surrounded it, followed by a second, subtler shield, Light Screen.
Its eyes glowed with the mystical energy of Miracle Eye, disrupting any evasive tactics, and its tallic limbs coiled, ready for a decisive Pursuit. As it powered up, a unique surge of energy manifested, giving it the 'Counter Condition'—a state of heightened readiness for a retaliatory strike.
Steven's eyes narrowed, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. He recalled how Azure's Alpha Slaking had used its sheer power and unpredictable strikes to catch him off guard throughout the prior battle.
Steven smiled as he mused to himself, "Always full of surprises…"
But he returned focused for the battle ahead. Following up, Steven declared in an excited voice, "Clever, Azure. Very well. tagross, match him! Psych Up, Reflect, Light Screen, and Miracle Eye!"
*SHIII*
Steven's Alpha Shiny tagross mirrored its opponent's actions, bathing itself in the sa protective barriers and enhancing its perception. With Psych Up, it copied Azure's tagross's stat boosts, now standing with an identical 2 Attack, 2 Accuracy, 2 Special Defense, 2 Defense, and 2 Speed.
The two titans were now equally matched in terms of buffs. Steven ordered, seizing the initiative, "Flash Cannon!"
*PEW*
Steven's tagross unleashed a brilliant beam of steel energy…
*BOOOM*
It struck Azure's tagross directly, a blinding impact that caused its special defense to drop by one stage. But the powerful Pokémon stood firm.
Azure parried, unwilling to give ground, "Fire Punch, tagross!"
*Sssss*
Azure's tagross, its tallic fist blazing with fire, lunged forward. But Steven's ace was equally swift, countering, "teor Mash!"
*CLANG*
The two attacks collided with a resounding clang. Azure's tagross absorbed the teor Mash, its resilient fra barely flinching, and delivered its fiery punch.
Yet, even after taking a direct hit, Steven's tagross remained standing, a testant to its raw bulk and Steven's training. But then the Counter Condition kicked in as it punched another Fire Punch.
*Swooosh*
But Steven's tagross, anticipating this, dodged, predicting Azure's Pokémon actions. Steven remarked, a glint in his eye, "Never underestimate a Champion!"
Azure retorted with a smirk, "Wouldn't dream of it! Agile Style Fire Punch!"
*Sssss*
Steven's tagross prepared for another teor Mash, its body glowing with tallic energy. The two Steel-types lunged, their attacks locking in a desperate struggle.
*CLANG*
Sparks flew, and the ground beneath them began to crack under the imnse pressure. Azure's tagross, despite its boosted stats, was visibly skidding back, inches at a ti, a clear sign of Steven's Alpha tagross's superior strength.
A sly grin slowly spread across Azure's face, catching Steven's attention. Steven's eyes narrowed, a sense of unease creeping in as he thought, 'What is he planning?'
Azure's voice bood, "tagross! Strong Style Explosion!"
Steven's eyes widened in alarm as he exclaid, "Explosion?!"
He knew his tagross was too close to cast Protect effectively. Reacting instantly, he barked, "tagross, quickly! Four brains, Confusion Barrier!"
*KA-BOOOOM*
Azure's tagross, knowing its trainer's intent, glowed with an all-consuming light, gathering every ounce of its remaining energy. A thunderous roar filled the room as the Strong Style Explosion detonated, engulfing both Pokémon in a blinding white flash. The shockwave rippled violently through the octagonal chamber, rattling the very foundations of the building.
*RMBL*
When the smoke finally cleared, Azure's tagross lay still on the battlefield, its tallic body smoldering, had undoubtedly fainted. But Steven's tagross, though bruised and singed, stood tall.
*Shiii*
A faint, swirling psychic barrier, the Confusion Barrier, had visibly softened the impact, saving it from the full brunt of the suicidal attack. Steven, however, knew the cost as he frowned at the scene.
His Alpha tagross was significantly weakened, its energy reserves depleted. Steven thought cautiously, 'He used his Pokémon's last remaining strength to weaken mine, no matter the sacrifice. Very bold strategy, Azure.'
Azure recalled his tagross, a gentle hand caressing the Poké Ball, thanking him proudly, "Thank you, old friend. You fought brilliantly."
He knew tagross's efforts, despite its fainting, had chipped away at Steven's ace, exhausting it and, crucially, leaving the Reflect and Light Screen still active, ready to protect his final Pokémon from Steven's incoming assaults.
Azure took a deep breath, gazing at his final Poke Ball as he thought, 'This is the end partner. Let's go out swinging with everything we've got!'
Azure grinned with a resolute cry, Azure sent out his final partner, "Alright, Sceptile! It's all up to you!"
*Pop*
Sceptile, its green scales shimring, landed gracefully on the battered battlefield, a Sceptilite embedded securely in its arm. Its keen eyes imdiately locked onto Steven's still-standing tagross.
The two Pokémon had, in fact, clashed before during the earlier parts of the battle, and a silent understanding passed between them as they thought, 'This was it. The final, decisive confrontation.'
Steven wasted no ti. His hand flew to his ga Stickpin, a gleam of determination in his eyes as he roared, "tagross, ga Evolve!"
*SHIII*
A blinding stream of light erupted from the Stickpin, encompassing Steven's tagross. The Pokémon's form twisted and expanded, its tallic blue-green body growing sleeker, more powerful. Its four legs beca six, and a central core pulsed with imnse energy. ga tagross roared, a beacon of Steel/Psychic might.
Azure, not to be outdone, his own resolve burning bright, grasped his ga Glove as he roared, "Sceptile, ga Evolve!"
*SHIII*
Sceptile, too, was enveloped in a brilliant light. Its serpentine body elongated, sharper, more angular. Its tail transford into a massive, leaf-edged blade, and its forest-green skin deepened in hue. ga Sceptile let out a piercing cry, radiating Grass/Dragon-type power.
ga tagross, thanks to its superior speed, attacked first. Steven commanded, "This is the end, Azure! tagross! Iron Head!"
*ZOOOOM*
ga tagross surged forward, its head glowing with steel energy, aiming for a devastating blow. But ga Sceptile was just as quick. Azure countered confidently, "Agility, Sceptile! Gotta match their speed!!"
*Swooosh*
ga Sceptile blurred into motion, its enhanced speed allowing it to effortlessly weave around the charging Iron Head. The attack whistled past, harmlessly missing its target entirely with 2 Speed.
Now, both Pokémon matched each other in speed.
Azure called, "Thunder Punch, Sceptile!"
*ZZZZT*
ga Sceptile's fists crackled with electricity, its eyes fixed on tagross.
Steven barked back, "teor Mash, tagross!"
*SHINN*
ga tagross, recovering from its missed attack, lunged with an electrified fist, its teor Mash aiming for Sceptile. But Azure's Sceptile, with a burst of agility, expertly dodged the tallic punch…
*SMASH*
Its electrified fists slamd into tagross's underside, sending the colossal Pokémon skidding across the ground from the force of the Thunder Punch. Steven, ever observant, noticed a peculiar phenonon…
*ZAP*
Electricity, instead of dispersing, flowed from the impact point, coursing down Sceptile's arm and converging into its massive, leaf-bladed tail, which now glowed with a faint, crackling energy. It clicked in Steven's head.
He realized, with a jolt, that Sceptile's Special Attack stat was rising by 1 with each electrical surge, its fists now coated in a double layer of Thunder Punch energy, granting it an additional 2 Special Attack stat.
He murmured to himself in disbelief, a wry smile touching his lips, "Lightning Rod. How clever. To charge its own special attack, even in close combat."
Steven declared, deciding to unleash raw power, "Hyper Beam!"
*SHIII*
ga tagross gathered imnse energy, firing a devastating Hyper Beam.
Azure commanded, "Double Team, Sceptile!"
*Swoooosh*
ga Sceptile shimred, creating multiple illusory copies of itself. The Hyper Beam tore through the duplicates, but unfortunately, it eventually connected with the real ga Sceptile, sending it skidding back with substantial damage.
*BOOOM*
Sceptile, however, made a remarkably quick recovery. Azure urged, "Synthesis!"
*Shiii*
Green energy pulsed around Sceptile, healing so of the damage. With tagross recharging Azure ordered his free move for this turn, "Now, Sunny Day!"
*SHIIII*
Sceptile unleashed a powerful Sunny Day, bathing the arena in harsh, invigorating sunlight. Steven's tagross, now needing to recharge from the Hyper Beam, was caught in the open, montarily vulnerable.
As tagross finally recovered, Steven seized the mont, "teor Mash!"
Azure countered, his voice ringing with renewed confidence, "Solar Blade, Sceptile!"
*SHIII*
With the harsh sunlight active, Solar Blade required no charge ti; it was unleashed instantly. Both attacks collided with cataclysmic force…
*KA-BOOOOM*
A blinding explosion ripped through the Champion's Room, sending a powerful shockwave that rattled Steven and Azure alike. When the dust settled, both Pokémon stood, battered but unbowed, each showing significant damage from the brutal exchange.
Azure called, capitalizing on the sun, "Synthesis, Sceptile!"
*Shiii*
Under the harsh sunlight, Sceptile rapidly absorbed energy, its health rapidly recovering by half. It now looked almost as fresh as before the explosion, much to Steven's chagrin.
Steven barked, trying to land a quick, prioritizing hit, "Bullet Punch!"
*Zoooom*
ga tagross launched forward with a blinding Bullet Punch. Azure replied, "Detect, Sceptile!"
*Wooosh*
ga Sceptile effortlessly avoided the attack, its movents fluid and precise. And Azure followed up, "Follow that up with Energy Ball!!"
*PEW*
*PEW*
*PEW*
Several follow-up Energy Balls from Sceptile also missed their mark, tagross twisting and dodging with remarkable grace. Both Trainers' eyes narrowed at this, trying to one-up the other in this battle.
Steven roared, exasperated, "teor Mash!"
*SMASH*
This ti, ga tagross connected. The powerful Steel-type attack smashed into ga Sceptile, causing significant damage once more.
Sceptile staggered but held its ground. Azure pressed, "Strong Style! Solar Blade!"
*FLASH*
ga Sceptile, drawing on the sunlight, unleashed another instant Solar Blade. But tagross was ready...
*Wooosh*
It effortlessly dodged the attack, then retaliated with a devastating Psychic, lifting Sceptile and slamming it hard into the ground. Sceptile, though bruised and severely weakened, still managed to force itself back to its feet…
Azure then ordered, "Synthesis!"
Hearing its trainer's words, Sceptile began using another desperate Synthesis to cling to life, continuing the battle. Azure's grimace, a mask of intense concentration, slowly gave way to a triumphant smile.
Steven's eyes widened seeing this as he thought, puzzled by this expression, 'He still has sothing left? Did I miscalculate what –'
Azure's hand flew to his belt, pulling forth a Z-Power Ring with a sparkling Grassium-Z crystal. He equipped it, the device glowing with imnse energy as he declared, "Sceptile, let's show them the true power of nature!"
Steven watched, stunned. He had completely forgotten one skill Azure had left as he thought, troubled, 'I forgot! Azure's Z-Moves?!'
*SHIII*
Fully charged with Z-Power, ga Sceptile's tail glowed with an erald green aura. It then becos surrounded by a light green viridian aura, causing the battlefield to be covered in flowers that bloom...
*SHIIII*
The energy surrounding Sceptile morphs into an orb in the air as Azure roared, "Let's end this with a bang, partner! Z-Move! BLOOM DOOM!!!"
*PEW*
It launched its ultimate attack: Bloom Doom, a colossal wave of vibrant, destructive grass energy taking the shape of a massive energy beam. Steven's tagross, seeing the overwhelming power, tried to evade and prepare for its own finisher.
Steven yelled, hoping to interrupt, "Flash Cannon!"
*PEW*
ga tagross unleashed its Flash Cannon. All 4 of its brains were focusing on the blast as they avoided the attack, thinking it was safe…
*SWOOOSH*
But to Steven's absolute shock, the energy beam of Bloom Doom, instead of continuing its straight trajectory, suddenly changed direction. It curved, a living, sentient force, blocking tagross's Flash Cannon mid-air, absorbing its energy, and then surged forward, striking the Iron Leg Pokémon with unimaginable force.
*KA-BOOOOM*
ga tagross cried out, plumting to the ground, a crater forming beneath its mighty fra. Steven was in utter disbelief. He had never seen a Z-Move commanded with such precision and adaptability as he thought, stunned, 'To manipulate grass-type energy to this degree… incredible!'
As ga tagross struggled to rise, ga Sceptile seized its opportunity. Its leaf blade tail, still charged with sunlight, glowed fiercely.
Azure commanded, his voice filled with elation, "Solar Blade, Sceptile! Finish it!"
*SHIIII*
*ZOOOOM*
With blinding speed, ga Sceptile descended, its supercharged Solar Blade cleaving through the air. It struck ga tagross with a final, devastating blow…
*SHINNG*
*CLANG*
The Champion's ace faltered, its glowing core dimming, and then, with a heavy clang, it collapsed, fainted. Sceptile panted as its leaf blades turned to normal, eyeing the fallen Champion Pokémon.
The battle was over.
A profound silence filled the room, broken only by Azure's heavy breathing and Sceptile's triumphant roar, "GRAOOOOO!!!!"
Steven stood on his side of the field, stunned for a long mont. Then, a slow, genuine smile spread across his face, a smile of respect and admiration.
Steven said calmly, his voice calm again, yet filled with warmth, declaring proudly, "Azure… That was… a magnificent battle. Your Sceptile is truly remarkable, and your strategy, flawless."
He walked towards Azure, extending a hand as he added, "Congratulations, my friend. You are the new Hoenn League Champion."
Azure grasped Steven's hand, a wide grin breaking across his face, the weight of his Hoenn journey finally lifting. He then replied casually, "Thank you, Steven. You were an incredible Champion."
Steven said calmly, turning towards the silver staircase ahead of them, "Co. The Hall of Fa awaits."
/////
[Hoenn Region, Pokémon League (Hoenn) – Hall of Fa]
Together, the two trainers ascended the elegant staircase. The door at the top opened to reveal a grand, ethereal room.
Steven led Azure up the silver staircase and into the Hall of Fa. It was a massive, luminous room with a reflective blue floor, dominated by a large machine designed to record the Champion's victory.
Steven said proudly, indicating the machine with six empty slots, "This is it. The final step. Record your team, and your status as the Hoenn Champion is cented. We will then proceed to et the Pokémon Association Chairman to discuss your new duties."
Azure healed his team, the six victorious partners restored to full health, and placed their Poké Balls into the slots. He smiled as he murmured, "We did it, guys…"
*BEEP*
The machine scanned the data, and a screen flashed on. The screen was showing Azure standing proudly in the center, flanked by tagross, Sceptile, Milotic, Gardevoir, Salance, and Alpha Slaking.
Azure murmured, a hint of awe in his voice, despite his two previous Pokémon League victories, "They did it… We did it… We've beco Champions of Hoenn!"
Steven smiled, ready to move forward as he said calmly to Azure, "Indeed. Co, the Chairman awaits."
Azure, however, raised a hand, stopping the Champion mid-step. Azure's tone was blunt, the celebratory atmosphere imdiately draining away, "Yeah… sorry, Steven, but no. I'm not going to do that."
Steven paused, genuinely surprised as he asked curiously, "Decline? Azure, this is the highest honor in the region. What are you talking about?"
Azure grinned slyly, the light in his eyes shifting from competitive joy to sharp cynicism as he replied, "It's too much of a hassle, Steven. And frankly, the Hoenn Chairman can suck it for all I care."
He crossed his arms as he added bluntly evident disdain on his face, "I didn't co here for a political title. I ca here for the battle and to continue my journey to beco a Pokémon Master. Besides, I read Rayquaza's mories, and I know I can't trust him."
Steven raised an eyebrow, the smile dissolving into professional curiosity, and asked, "Rayquaza's mories? Azure, what is a Pokémon Master to you, and why do you distrust the Chairman of the Association?"
Azure pulled out his Arc Phone, tapping rapidly, sending Steven an Email as he replied, "That's for to know and for you to find out."
*Beep*
He sent Steven an email; the transmission was instantaneous between their devices. Azure then said calmly, handing him a suitcase out of his bag, "But for now, I've gotta go and see ya later, Steven. I have another journey to plan."
With a simple gesture, Azure recalled his Pokémon, then turned to his final partner, asking calmly, "Gardevoir. Teleport."
*Swf*
A brilliant, blinding flash of blue energy filled the Hall of Fa, and Azure vanished, leaving Steven alone with the newly recorded Champion data and a sinking suspicion in his gut as he thought, 'I'm not going to like this, am I?'
Steven pulled out his own Rotom Phone, his jaw tightening as the notification chid. He opened the file Azure had sent.
The contents were explosive: video and files evidence, apparently gathered by Celebi moving through ti, detailing a clandestine plan—the capture of the Legendary Rayquaza from the Pokémon Association.
His expression hardened further when he saw the list of nas involved: high-ranking mbers of the Pokémon Association, Greater Mauville Holdings, House of Berlitz, and disturbingly, the ntion of his own father, Mr. Stone, and his Devon Corps in the creation of weaponry designed to control the ancient Legendary Pokémon.
But the final lines caused his knuckles to turn white as he read the full context: the planned capture and control of Rayquaza had not only been illegal but was directly linked to the Hoenn Chairman's attempt to seize ultimate power. Controlling the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza through the Jade/Green Orb.
The email contained evidence that the Hoenn Association, in their pursuit of the ancient Dragon, had been responsible for the death of Aster, the Lorekeeper and previous dedicated Trainer of Rayquaza. This act, the assassination of the balance, had been the catalyst that enraged Zinnia and led directly to the catastrophic awakening of Groudon and Kyogre, plunging Hoenn into disaster.
Steven muttered, his voice cold and low as his eyes narrowed, "I'm going to need to have a few words with the Pokémon Association Chairman about this matter... if this evidence is true. Then he and the others were the direct cause of Groudon and Kyogre awakening, causing such a disaster..."
The glory of his defeat and Azure's subsequent victory suddenly felt insignificant. The true battle for Hoenn was just beginning, and Azure would later be known as the Uncrowned Champion, the Champion who refused the crown, had just fired the opening shot.
