~Third POV~

[Sinnoh Region, Canalave City – Gym]

Byron reached for his fourth Poké Ball, a determined glint returning to his eyes, and declared, "Impressive! But the fortress has a moat! Go, Empoleon!"

*POP*

With a flash of light, a regal Empoleon appeared. Its steel fins glead with a cold, predatory light, and around its neck hung an [Expert Belt]. Azure said softly, recalling the exhausted grass-type, "Liligant, you did amazing. Return."

Byron didn't waste the opening barked, "Agility, now!"

*Flash*

The Emperor Pokémon's body blurred as it began to glide across the rocky terrain with unnatural speed. Byron was done playing defense; he was accelerating.

Azure tossed his Poké Ball, declaring, "Lucario, I need your aura! Let's go!"

*POP*

The Aura Jackal Pokémon materialized, its [Lucarionite] ga stone glowing on its wristband. Azure commanded, "Aura Sphere!"

*Shhh-hh*

Lucario cupped his hands, a sphere of pure blue energy forming instantly. He lunged forward, but Byron smirked as he barked, "Roar!"

*SCREEEE*

Empoleon let out a deafening, tallic shriek that vibrated through the very air. The sound waves slamd into Lucario, disrupting his focus and forcing his form to dissolve back into red light.

Azure's eyes widened as he uttered, "Nani?!"

The Pokémon chanics of the Gym battle took over, forcing a random switch. With that, the one to co out…

*POP*

… Out ca the exhausted H-Liligant again. She didn't even have ti to look around before Byron pressed the advantage, "Aerial Ace!"

*SHINNG*

Empoleon moved like a blue streak. With its Agility-boosted speed, it closed the gap instantly. Its wing-fin glowed with white energy, slashing across Lilligant. The grass-type let out a faint cry before collapsing, "Liiii…!! (Why…!)"

*THUD*

The referee droned, "Lilligant is unable to battle!"

Rotom shouted into the mic, comnting on the scene, "Zzzzt! Ouch! That's a tactical 'phazing' maneuver by Byron! Using Roar to force a swap into a weakened Pokémon? That's cold-blooded! colder than a Regice's fridge!"

Gengar nodded solemnly, then began eating a bowl of popcorn that had manifested out of the shadows. Azure gritted his teeth, recalling his Pokémon grabbing his next one, "Five left. Lucario, get back in there!"

*POP*

Lucario reappeared, eyes narrowed. It got into its battle stance.

Azure commanded, "Lucario, use Agility! Match its speed!"

Byron bellowed, "Not so fast! Roar again!"

*SCREEEE*

Once more, the sonic boom of Empoleon's voice echoed. Lucario was forcibly recalled, and in his place…

*POP*

*THUD*

… the massive Rhydon appeared. The Alpha Pokémon was panting, his [Leftovers] held in a pouch around his neck, slowly ticking up his health, but it wasn't fast enough.

Byron commanded, "Surf!"

*SPLASH*

A massive wave materialized from the moisture in the air, crashing down on the 4x weak Rhydon. The ground-type didn't even have a chance to roar back before the weight of the water pinned him down.

*THUD*

When the wave receded, Rhydon was unconscious. The statue referee announced, "Rhydon is unable to battle!"

The crowd—gasped. Pearl shouted, his hands gripping the railing in a stunned voice, "He's picking Azure's team apart! He's not letting him set up any montum!"

Platinum nodded, her face pale as she added, "Byron is cycling through Azure's wounded Pokémon. It's a classic attrition strategy. If Azure can't stop that Roar, he's going to lose his whole team without landing a hit."

Azure closed his eyes for a second, taking a deep breath. He heard Pikachu, Pichu (w), and Eevee's cries, "Pika! Pi! Evoi! (Don't give up!)."

He wasn't a three-ti champion for nothing. He knew the chanics of this world better than anyone.

He grabbed his next Poké Ball as he had a plan, declaring, "You want to play the switching ga, Byron? Fine. Let's change the terrain. Gastrodon, you're up!"

*POP*

Gastrodon erged, its sea-slug body squelching on the stone, wearing its held item [Rocky Helt]. Byron pushed, "Roar one more ti!"

Empoleon inhaled, but Azure was ready as he ordered, "Gastrodon, use your secret weapon! Suction Cups and Sludge!"

*SPLAT*

Gastrodon didn't just stand there. It released a thick, purple ooze from its underside, anchoring itself to the floor like industrial-strength glue…

*SCREEE*

When the Roar hit, the sound waves washed over Gastrodon, but it didn't budge. It was literally stuck to the arena.

Byron blinked, "What?!"

Azure commanded, "Now, Recover!"

*FLASH*

Gastrodon glowed with a soft green light, its wounds knitting together as it regained half of its health. It cried happily, "Graooo… (Ah, that felt nice…)."

Byron clicked his teeth as he shifted tactics, commanding, "Tch, stubborn slug. If I can't move you, I'll freeze you! Icy Wind!"

*WHOOOOSH*

Empoleon exhaled a freezing gust. Gastrodon's speed dropped as frost coated its skin, but Azure didn't flinch, commanding, "Mud Bomb!"

*SPLAT*

Gastrodon spat a glob of thick, mucky earth. It slamd into Empoleon's face, covering its eyes and slowing it down as well.

Both Pokémon were now sluggish, their speed tiers equalizing.

Byron yelled, desperate to regain control, "Blizzard!"

Azure countered, "Earth Power!"

*KRA-BOOOM*

The arena exploded. A localized snowstorm t a pillar of molten energy erupting from beneath Empoleon's feet. The shockwave rattled the windows of the Gym. Empoleon took a direct, super-effective hit, staggering back, its breath coming in ragged gasps.

But as the mist cleared, Azure's heart sank. Gastrodon was standing perfectly still, encased in a thick, translucent block of jagged blue ice.

Rotom shrieked at the sight, "Frozen solid! That's a ten percent chance, and Byron just rolled a Nat 20! Talk about bad luck for Boss!"

Gengar hissed, its eyes glowing red as it floated over the table, seemingly wanting to curse Byron's luck personally, "Damn it! Why did the boss roll a Nat 1!"

Byron grinned, seeing the chance, and commanded, "Finish it, Empoleon! Swords Dance into Brick Break!"

*CRACK*

Empoleon spun its fins, its physical attack power skyrocketing. Then, it lunged, its fin glowing with a fierce orange light. It shattered the ice—and Gastrodon along with it. The Shiny sea slug fell, unable to withstand the boosted physical blow.

*THUD*

The statue referee announced, "Gastrodon is unable to battle!"

Azure recalled his fallen friend. Byron was down to 4 Pokémon, and Byron's Empoleon, though heavily damaged, was now buffed with Swords Dance and Agility.

Azure looked at the Poké Ball in his hand. He could feel the pulse of Lucario inside as he roared, "This ends now. Lucario, lead the way!"

*POP*

Lucario stepped onto the field for the third ti. He looked genuinely annoyed. His blue fur was bristling, and his aura was leaking out in visible, fla-like wisps.

Byron saw the fatigue in Lucario's eyes as he commanded, "He's pissed! Shit!! Roar him away one last ti!"

Azure said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous tone, "I don't think so! Lucario! Agile Style: Extre Speed!"

*KRA-BOOOOM*

Before Byron could even finish the command for Roar, Lucario vanished. It wasn't just speed; it was a distortion of space. A blur of blue and white slamd into Empoleon's chest with the force of a freight train.

*BA-BOOM*

Rotom yelled in disbelief, "Did you see that?! He didn't even wait for the turn!"

Empoleon wheezed, the air driven from its lungs. It tried to recover, but Azure wasn't done as he followed up, "Strong Style: Power-Up Punch!"

Lucario's fist glowed with a concentrated, golden light. He didn't just punch; he drove his entire weight into the strike…

*BAM*

The hit landed squarely on Empoleon's beak. The ground beneath them cracked. The Emperor Pokémon's eyes rolled back into its head…

*THUD*

It hovered for a mont in stunned silence before toppling over backward, a heavy thud echoing through the Gym. The referee shouted, "Empoleon is unable to battle!"

Azure breathed a sigh of relief, though his face remained stern. He looked at Lucario, who stood amidst the dust, his fist still smoking.

Rotom buzzed excitedly as it comnted, "Zzzzt! And that's four down for Byron! But don't count the old man out yet! He's still got two more steel-plated monsters in the back! Can Boss maintain this montum, or will Byron's fortress finally crush him?"

Byron reached for his fifth Poké Ball, a grim smile on his face, and stated, "You've got fire, kid. I'll give you that. But let's see how you handle a true titan of the mines!"

Azure narrowed his eyes, adjusting his hat. Byron, a slight smirk playing on his lips, retrieved his fifth Poké Ball as he declared, "You've pushed , punk! Let's see how you handle this relic!"

With a flick of his wrist, he sent out his next Pokémon…

*POP*

A massive, bipedal dragon-like creature with a glistening, slug-like body erged, its head crowned with four prominent, snail-like horns. It was a Hisuian Goodra, its tallic shell gleaming under the lights, an [Assault Vest] visibly strapped to its formidable fra.

Pearl gasped, leaning forward, "Whoa! Is that… a Goodra?"

Dia exclaid, pulling out his Pokédex, "But it's steel-type! Hisuian Goodra, the Shell Bunker Pokémon. A Dragon and Steel type!"

Platinum's eyes widened as she saw the H-Goodra in awe, "And that [Assault Vest]. It boosts Special Defense by 50%!"

Byron chuckled, a deep rumble as he stated with a genuine, "Indeed, Missy. Azure, I must thank you. Rediscovering these Hisuian Pokémon has been a boon to my studies. To think, the Sinnoh region once harbored such a marvel – a Pseudo-Legendary with the Steel typing."

Azure grimaced, a subtle tightening of his jaw. He knew all too well the implications. Goodra was already a defensively bulky Pokémon. With the [Assault Vest], its Special Defense would be an astronomical wall.

This Hisuian variant, with its Dragon/Steel typing, only compounded the problem, reducing its weaknesses to only Fighting and Ground. His Lucario, a Fighting/Steel type, had the advantage, but brute force alone might not be enough.

Azure called out, his voice cutting through the tension, "Lucario, this is it!"

He lifted his hand, revealing the Omni Ring on his finger, its surface now glowing with the distinct insignia of ga Evolution. He raised his arm into the air as he declared, "Let's go all in! ga Evolve!"

*FLASH*

Arcs of blue energy erupted from Azure's ring, connecting with the [Lucarionite]. Lucario roared, its form expanding, its fur elongating, and its aura glowing with an intensified, almost fiery blue, "GRAOOOO!!! (I'M POWERING UP!!!)"

When the light subsided, ga Lucario stood poised, its red-tipped dreadlocks swaying, its eyes blazing with fierce determination. Its new ability, Adaptability, would amplify the power of its STAB moves, making its aura-infused strikes even more devastating. This was pure, unadulterated offensive firepower.

Despite the surge of power, Azure appeared concerned. He had never battled against a Hisuian Goodra before, let alone one equipped with an [Assault Vest]. Its full move set was unknown, its defensive capabilities legendary.

But he pulled himself together, pushing down the uncertainty as he commanded, "Alright, Lucario! You know what we must do! Give it your all!"

Rotom declared, its screen showing a clash of two opposing icons, "The offensive powerhouse versus the immovable object! ga Lucario is ready to unleash its Adaptability-boosted STAB moves!"

Gengar floated closer to the statue, the referee asking, "Place your bets now, folks! Will the Steel slug out-tank the Aura warrior?"

The statue remained silent as Gengar clicked her tongue, "Stiff competition, as always."

Azure took the first move as he commanded fiercely, "Lucario, start with a Strong Style Aura Sphere!"

*Shhh-hhh*

Lucario's palms glowed intensely, gathering a swirling orb of blue energy, larger and more potent than usual. With a powerful surge, it hurled the projectile toward H-Goodra. The sphere hurtled across the arena, a beacon of raw power.

Byron remained calm as he barked, "Goodra, intercept with Ice Beam!"

*PEW*

Goodra responded, its maw opening wide to unleash a frigid beam of ice. The Ice Beam sliced through the air, eting the Aura Sphere head-on…

*BOOOM*

A blinding flash of light erupted, followed by a shower of ice shards and a dissipating aura. The sheer force of the collision sent tremors through the steel floor.

Rotom analyzed, spinning rapidly, "A direct hit, but neither side gave ground! A testant to Goodra's Special Defense, perhaps?"

Azure commanded, pressing the advantage, "Lucario, follow up with a Strong Style Vacuum Wave!"

Vacuum Wave, a priority Fighting-type move, was Super Effective against the Dragon/Steel-type Goodra. Lucario vanished in a blur, reappearing in front of Goodra, its extended palm crackling with azure energy.

*THWACK*

With a swift, powerful thrust, it unleashed the wave directly at Goodra's tallic shell. The attack connected with a resounding THWACK! that reverberated through the gym. Goodra recoiled, a tallic groan escaping its throat, "Goo… (Heheh! That tickles!)"

… but to Azure's dismay, it appeared to shrug off the super-effective blow, its sheer bulk and the [Assault Vest] absorbing much of the impact. Platinum exclaid, her hands flying to her mouth, "Its Special Defense is truly monstrous!"

Dia added, awe in his voice, "Even a super effective, STAB, Adaptability-boosted special attack barely fazed it!"

Gengar snickered at Azure, adding, "Boss's face is a picture, folks. He looks like he just tried to punch a mountain."

Azure grit his teeth as he thought, 'Okay, special attacks aren't going to cut it easily. I had to mix it up.'

Azure commanded, "Lucario, Strong Style Power-Up Punch!"

*ZOOOOM*

Lucario roared, its fist glowing with fighting energy, preparing a direct physical strike. Byron's eyes glead as he ordered, "Goodra, Bide!"

*CLANG*

Goodra's tallic body began to glow with a faint, stored energy, its eyes closing in concentration. Lucario's powerful punch, aid at Goodra's torso, connected with a heavy CLANG!

The dragon Pokémon absorbed the blow, its body trembling but holding firm.

*Splash*

But as Lucario retracted its fist, a sticky, iridescent goo erupted from Goodra's shell, clinging to Lucario's arm and leg. Rotom shrieked, "Gooey activated! Goodra's Hidden Ability! When hit by a physical move, it lowers the opponent's Speed stage by -1!"

Azure's eyes widened in alarm as he cursed, "Damn it!"

He had completely forgotten about Goodra's potential Hidden Ability. Now, Lucario's speed, crucial for breaking through tanky Pokémon, was compromised. He couldn't afford to hit it physically again unless he wanted Lucario to beco a sitting duck.

Pearl muttered, wincing, "Azure just walked into that one."

Gengar chid, "A classic trap! Byron knows how to play the long ga."

Goodra continued to glow, steadily accumulating power from the Bide it had initiated. The gym's atmosphere grew taut with anticipation for the impending counterattack. Azure knew he couldn't let Goodra unleash its Bide unhindered.

He had to react. Quickly, he rembered a move that Lucario knew as he barked, "Lucario, use Mind Reader!"

Lucario's eyes glowed, focusing intently on Goodra. A ripple of psychic energy emanated from it, attempting to predict its opponent's next move.

Byron, sensing the shift, imdiately called out, "Goodra, now! Unleash Bide!"

*PEW*

The stored energy within Goodra burst forth, transforming into a colossal, raw blast of pure force aid directly at Lucario. The attack hurtled forward, potent and destructive.

Azure roared, confident in his prediction, "Detect, Lucario, now!"

*Woooosh*

Just as the Bide attack was about to engulf it, Lucario raised its arms, a shimring green barrier flickering into existence around it. The massive Bide attack slamd into the Detect shield, dissolving harmlessly against its protective aura.

Byron's eyes narrowed, a flicker of surprise crossing his face. He clicked his tongue, "Mind Reader… then Detect? Clever. Goodra, Flathrower!"

*HISSSS*

Goodra, despite its recent exertion, opened its mouth and unleashed a torrent of superheated flas. The fire roared across the arena, a searing wave of heat.

Azure countered, not missing a beat, "Strong Style Aura Sphere, intercept it!"

*PEW*

Lucario, still slightly fatigued from the Bide, nevertheless conjured another potent Aura Sphere. The blue orb shot forward, eting the Flathrower mid-air…

*KRA-BOOOM*

The collision was spectacular: fire and aura rged, creating a massive, swirling cloud of incandescent steam that rapidly engulfed the entire battlefield, reducing visibility to zero. Rotom buzzed, its screen showing static where the arena once was, "Unbelievable! The field is completely obscured! Who can see what now?!"

Gengar peered into the steam and comnted, "Ah, a smokescreen. A classic. But our boy Boss has a trick up his sleeve, doesn't he?"

Azure's eyes narrowed, focusing. His connection with Lucario deepened, not relying on sight, but on pure, unadulterated aura as he commanded, "Lucario! Aura sense! Locate Goodra, then hit it with a Strong Style Aura Sphere!"

*Ripple*

Deep within the swirling steam, Lucario's eyes glowed. Its enhanced senses, amplified by ga Evolution, pierced through the obfuscation. It pinpointed Goodra's exact location, a faint tremor of its life force resonating through the mist…

*PEW*

With a sudden burst of speed, Lucario launched another Aura Sphere. The projectile, unseen by Byron, burst through the steam, catching Goodra completely off guard. The Steel/Dragon Pokémon cried out as the attack slamd into its flank, sending its massive body skidding violently across the tallic floor.

Byron exclaid, finally seeing Goodra's form as it erged from the dissipating steam, visibly rattled, "What?!"

He clicked his tongue, annoyance clear in his features as he groaned, "He used the steam as cover… and Lucario's aura sense to find it!"

Pearl cheered, pumping his fist, "A masterstroke!"

Platinum added, a proud smile on her face, "That's our Azure!"

Azure pressed the advantage, unwilling to let Goodra recover, "Lucario, again! Strong Style Aura Sphere!"

Goodra, still reeling, looked up, its eyes glazing over as Byron commanded, "Goodra, Bide! Again!"

The dragon Pokémon, against all odds, began to glow once more, desperately trying to store energy. Rotom narrated, barely keeping up, "Boss hopes to hold the Aura Sphere and push through Goodra's Bide to knock it out! This is a clash of wills!"

*PEW*

Lucario unleashed a continuous stream of aura, forming a powerful, sustained beam that pushed against Goodra. Goodra, with its incredible Special Defense and the [Assault Vest], struggled, its body shaking violently as it tried to absorb the onslaught while simultaneously gathering energy for its own attack.

*RMBL*

The air vibrated with the conflicting energies, sparks flying where Lucario's aura t Goodra's tallic shell. It was a prolonged battle of wills, a test of endurance and raw power. Azure's jaw was set, his brow furrowed in concentration, urging Lucario on. Byron watched, stoic, confident in his Pokémon's resilience…

*BOOOOOOM*

Finally, with a deafening BOOM! Lucario's Aura Sphere culminated in a massive explosion, engulfing Goodra in a bright blue inferno. The gym floor trembled, and a cloud of debris and smoke filled the space where Goodra had stood.

As the smoke began to clear, Azure held his breath. To his and everyone's surprise, Goodra erged, shaky and swaying, but undeniably standing. Its tallic shell was scorched, its slug-like body bruised, but its eyes still held a flicker of defiance.

Rotom shrieked, "Incredible! H-Goodra endures! What a tank!"

Gengar observed, a hint of grudging respect in its voice, "That [Assault Vest] is doing wonders. Almost as good as avoiding chores."

Byron, though surprised, quickly seized the mont and commanded, "Now, Goodra! Unleash Bide!"

*PEW*

Goodra, having absorbed so much damage, released an even more potent blast of stored energy. The attack surged forward, a wave of destructive power.

Azure commanded, his voice strained, "Aura Sphere, Lucario, one last ti!"

*PEW*

Lucario, drained but resolute, poured its last reserves into a final, desperate Aura Sphere. The blue orb, though smaller now, flew true, eting Goodra's Bide attack head-on. The two attacks collided with unimaginable force, creating a blinding flash that montarily swallowed the entire arena...

*BOOOOM-CRASH*

A guttural CRASH! echoed, followed by a thick, opaque cloud of dust and steam that completely obscured both Pokémon. Silence descended upon the gym, broken only by the settling dust. Spectators leaned forward, their hearts pounding in their chests.

When the dust finally cleared, a gasp collectively rose from the stands. Both Pokémon lay prostrate on the arena floor, unmoving.

Their forms were still, their eyes closed.

Pearl exclaid, disbelief in his voice, "It's… it's a draw!"

Rotom's screen flashed, showing two crossed-out Pokémon icons: "Both Pokémon are down! A double knockout! What an incredible display of resilience and power!"

Gengar sighed dramatically, adding, "Just like I said, folks. Boss and draws. A match made in… well, a gym."

Azure, though disappointed, was about to recall Lucario, his expression one of exhaustion and respect for his opponent. Then, a faint sound broke through the hush…

*Drip-drip*

Everyone looked. A tiny, almost imperceptible drop of water landed on the steel floor next to Goodra…

*Rmbl*

Slowly, painstakingly, the H-Goodra began to stir. Its body quivered, its eyes fluttering open. A faint, ethereal glow, like verdant dew, shimred around it for just a split second. Goodra pushed itself up, panting heavily, its entire fra shaking, but undeniably standing.

Azure gasped, his voice barely a whisper, "What?! Life Dew!"

Byron smiled, a wide, triumphant grin as he praised his Goodra, "Goodra, you magnificent beast! You managed a Life Dew just before the end!"

Rotom's internal fan whirred furiously explained, "Unbelievable! In its last monts, H-Goodra managed to use Life Dew, recovering just enough health to stay in the fight! Boss's Lucario is down for the count, but Goodra is still in it!"

Gengar muttered, genuinely surprised, "Well, I'll be darned! A last-second recovery! The boss truly did lose this round."

Azure's shoulders slumped slightly, a mix of awe and frustration on his face. He recalled his fainted Lucario, his eyes full of gratitude and pride. Byron's Hisuian Goodra, though weary and battered, had sohow pulled through.

The scoreboard flickered back up, now showing Byron with 2 Pokémon remaining and Azure with only 2. The atmosphere intensified, heavy with the weight of the score. Azure had fought valiantly, pushed Lucario to its absolute limit, yet Byron's Pokémon had held on in the last second.

Azure looked across the arena at Byron, a glint of fierce determination in his eyes. The Steel-type Gym Leader knew he was on the cusp of victory. Azure knew he had to dig deep. Byron's last Pokémon would be his ace, and Azure only had two left to face it…
