Now reading: Chapter 398: The Making of a True Protagonist! from Pokémon: Ascension Trainer System, a Action novel by PokePals.

This ti, things were completely different.

Ash had transmigrated into the world of Pokémon—not as a bystander, but as the very protagonist himself. And unlike the original version of Ash Ketchum, he possessed far more than just determination.

He had the Ascension Trainer System, alongside two extraordinary powers—Aura and Viridian Power.

With his own intelligence and strategy, he had reshaped his destiny from the ground up.

At just six years old, he had already:

Secured his starter Pokémon early through Professor Oak's sumr camp

Gained recognition from the Kanto League through Oak's connections

Built his own business empire

Opened an online service—Ash's Move Mastery Room—helping Pokémon learn skills

Created the wildly successful "Magikarp Tackle" model

Established ties with major Kanto families

Even ford cooperative relations with Team Rocket

And through all this…

He had earned millions upon millions of Poké Dollars.

Of course, the system and his powers played a role.

But more important than that—

Was how he used them.

His judgnt. His planning. His execution.

Compared to the original tiline's Ash—

He was leagues ahead.

And naturally…

So were his Pokémon.

Take Pikachu as an example.

Even without relying on so mysterious "miracle power," it had already reached LV.40 Elite-level strength, with a fully constructed skill system—offense, defense, sustain, everything balanced.

At equal levels?

Invincible.

Even against stronger opponents?

Still dominant.

This ti—

There would be no relying on luck.

No borrowed "protagonist aura."

He would beco a true protagonist through strength alone.

And the fate where the spotlight was stolen—

Would never happen again.

"Pika—Pika—Chu!!"

Pikachu, of course, had none of these complicated thoughts. After receiving its training assignnt, it happily trotted off to begin practicing.

Ash watched it for a mont before shifting his attention to the rest of his team.

Greninja's Training

"Greninja."

Ash's voice grew steady as he addressed his second ace—Greninja.

"Your Protean ability becos stronger the more diverse your moveset is."

"But right now, your priority isn't learning more skills."

He continued, clearly laying out the plan:

"You've already learned many moves. And after evolving, you gained several more."

Skilled (1/500): Low Kick, Extrasensory, Aerial Ace, Smack Down, Pursuit

Novice (1/100): Night Slash, Role Play, Mat Block, Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch

"You've stacked too many low-proficiency moves."

"Your task now is simple—bring them all up to Proficient level as quickly as possible."

"Only after that… will I teach you new techniques."

"Guah—!"

Greninja nodded firmly.

Pidgeot's recent evolution had already caught up to it in level, and that pressure lit a fire within it. Without hesitation, it leapt to a nearby clearing and began training—its kicks slamming into a wooden stump with sharp, echoing impacts.

Pidgeot & Fearow — Rival Wings

Ash turned next to the two aerial powerhouses—Pidgeot and Fearow.

"Pidgeot, you just evolved. Your strength has surged, but it's not stable yet."

"Pause your Hurricane and Hyper Beam training."

"Focus on your new moves—Tailwind, Aerial Ace, Twister, Feather Dance."

"Stabilize your power first."

"Pidgeot—!"

It nodded calmly, far more composed now in its evolved form.

Then Ash turned to Fearow.

"Fearow… your brother has evolved, and now there's a gap between you."

"You'll need to work harder."

"This morning, you learned Drill Peck. That's one of your core offensive moves."

"Your task today is to raise its proficiency as quickly as possible."

Fearow wasn't a popular Pokémon.

Compared to Pidgeot, it had lower base stats. It lacked ga Evolution potential.

But that didn't an it was weak.

On the contrary—

With its hidden ability Sniper, Fearow could beco a devastating physical attacker.

Most Trainers misunderstood it, raising it like a special attacker—resulting in wasted potential.

But under Ash's guidance?

It would beco sothing entirely different.

A close-range executioner.

Like a blade that struck at critical points—

Fast. Precise. Lethal.

"Gaaah!!"

Fearow let out a sharp cry, its eyes blazing with determination.

Ash gently patted both birds.

"Go. Train hard. Don't let down."

With a powerful beat of their wings, Pidgeot and Fearow soared into the sky, quickly disappearing into the clouds as two distant black specks.

Magikarp & Feebas — Future Powerhouses

Finally, Ash turned toward the riverbank.

There, Magikarp (Valor) and Feebas (Lumina) floated quietly, waiting for him.

"Lumina. Valor."

"Your training remains the sa as this morning."

"Valor—continue practicing Dragon Rage."

"Lumina—focus on Water Pulse."

He crouched slightly, eting their eyes.

"You've both reached LV.15."

"It won't be long before you evolve."

"And when that happens…"

"I'll take you to the arena."

His voice carried quiet confidence.

Because he knew—

These two weren't ordinary Pokémon.

Their potential rivaled pseudo-legendaries.

All they needed—

Was that one mont of transformation.

And when it ca…

They would rise.

Just like the rest of his team.
