Rei stared at the scene, stunned.
He watched helplessly as his Ariados was defeated in a single blow by Cain’s Honchkrow’s sudden attack.
But Cain hadn’t given any orders.
Then how were his Pokémon coordinating so perfectly?
And why were Cain’s eyes still glowing red?
It was at that mont Rei realized that, even if soone had red eyes, they shouldn’t be glowing as intensely as Cain’s were now.
It was as if...
As if it were...
Psychic telepathy?
Rei had never battled a psychic before but had heard so rumors.
It was said that psychics, when commanding battles, could issue orders without speaking, using a special technique known as "telepathy" to transmit their commands directly to their Pokémon’s minds.
Was Cain using telepathy?
Rei now truly wanted to kill the person who had provided him with that faulty information.
Did that guy have sothing against Cain, or sothing against him?
This was clearly a setup!
While Rei remained motionless, Cain continued issuing orders. The telepathy was still in effect.
After defeating Ariados, Honchkrow’s Moxie ability activated.
"Honchkrow, use Sky Attack on Yanga. Sneasel, use Ice Beam on Yanga."
Hearing the command, Sneasel crossed its arms over its chest, and a bright white beam shot out at high speed toward Yanga in the sky.
Although Yanga reacted quickly, its wings were hit by Sneasel’s Ice Beam and beca covered in frost.
This caused its flight to beco unstable.
Right after Sneasel’s attack, Honchkrow prepared another Sky Attack, diving upward toward Yanga.
"Yanga, dodge it!" shouted Rei, finally snapping back to reality.
But as Cain’s Honchkrow was about to strike Yanga, Rei felt a sinking sensation in his stomach, as if sothing terrible was about to happen.
He didn’t even have ti to issue another command.
Just as Rei finished speaking, Honchkrow collided with Yanga.
Though Yanga didn’t lose its fighting ability imdiately due to its excellent physical condition, it plumted from the sky.
Sneasel, already prepared to intercept Yanga, sprinted swiftly. As Yanga descended to a certain height, Sneasel unleashed its Ice Claw technique, a combination of tal Claw and Ice Punch, striking Yanga square in the face.
Boom!
Like its companion Ariados, Yanga was sent flying into a tree, losing its ability to battle.
Rei’s face changed multiple tis.
Desperately, he reached for another Pokéball on his belt.
But no matter how fast he was, he couldn’t outpace Sneasel.
Following Cain’s telepathic orders, Sneasel kicked Rei to the ground, and Honchkrow landed beside him.
Rei, sprawled face-down, tried to get up but froze when he saw Sneasel’s sharp claws glinting coldly and Honchkrow’s piercing gaze.
His body remained paralyzed.
Cain withdrew his psychic powers; using telepathy hadn’t consud too much of his psychic energy, so it was within his limits.
He approached slowly, pulling a special communicator from the depths of his clothes. It was Umbra’s exclusive communicator.
When Rei saw Cain approaching, he forced a smile, trying to speak, but Cain didn’t even glance at him.
Cain simply pressed his head into the ground with his foot, pinning him forcefully, and dialed Umbra’s number.
After a mont, the call connected.
Cain didn’t speak first; it was Umbra who broke the silence.
"Cain?"
"Commander Umbra," Cain replied coldly.
Sensing the distant tone, Umbra chuckled.
Now that Cain had reached the advanced level, the pressure Umbra once exerted on him was no longer as overwhelming. Moreover, Cain believed he would one day surpass Umbra.
However, Umbra was still far stronger than him. Out of respect for a superior opponent, Cain decided to hold back a little.
It wasn’t yet the right ti to clash with such a powerful elite-level trainer, even with Giovanni’s backing.
"Hahaha, are you upset? Did you see the guy I sent with the supplies? How’d it go? Did you win?" Umbra laughed.
He didn’t seem bothered by Cain’s earlier tone. Clearly, he knew sothing had happened.
"Yes. What’s the deal with this idiot?" Cain understood from Umbra’s words that he was aware of what had transpired.
"Idiot... Hahaha! Well said. He’s just an idiot," Umbra laughed again.
Cain frowned but said nothing.
Umbra continued, though this ti he wasn’t addressing Cain: "Tenebris, why did you send soone as incompetent as this?"
Tenebris?
Cain was taken aback upon hearing this na.
Was Tenebris with Umbra?
A strange voice, one Cain had never heard before, responded. It was devoid of any emotion, and even Umbra’s mocking remarks didn’t affect its tone.
"Perhaps he really is an idiot."
Tenebris!
Weren’t Umbra and Tenebris supposed to be at odds within the Shadows unit?
Was that just a rumor?
Umbra chuckled a bit more before speaking again. "Alright, I suppose you must be confused now."
"I sent soone to deliver supplies to you. Initially, I wanted to send soone from the Shadows Group, but Tenebris ca to saying the Shadows unit had been infiltrated."
"I already suspected infiltration in the Shadows unit but wasn’t sure if it was internal or external. This was an opportunity, so I sent soone who had been acting a bit suspicious to test the waters."
"And it turned out we uncovered sothing. The person I sent was one of the individuals Tenebris suspected. While loyal to the Shadows unit, it seems they had already accepted bribes from others."
"Probably manipulated to target you directly this ti. The one behind it is soone you’ve surely heard of."
"Lucius!" Cain suddenly ntioned a na.
Umbra seed surprised for a mont and, after a brief pause, said, "Even you noticed. It seems both vice-leaders of the Shadows unit have been quite incompetent. The person I sent—deal with him yourself; the supplies are with him. I locked them with a password; he can’t open them."
So, it was him!
Lucius, an Executive of Team Rocket who had been behind Vexor during the trial island mission.
However, there were more intricate details Cain didn’t know, and Umbra didn’t seem inclined to share them with him.
In short, this was an embarrassing leak for the Shadows unit.
"Well, that’s all. I have nothing more to say. Tenebris and I will be busy handling so matters within the Shadows unit for a while."
"Unless it’s sothing extrely important, you’ll handle it yourself. Since you’ve defeated Rei, it seems you’ve reached the level of an advanced trainer. You shouldn’t have any trouble establishing yourself in the Hoenn region."
With that, Umbra ended the call.
Rei, still pinned under Cain’s foot, stared blankly.
He had never expected that his acceptance of a bribe from soone sent by Lucius would be exposed by both leaders of the Shadows unit.
