Now reading: Chapter 478: Capturing Mudkip from Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom (Re-Upload), a Fantasy novel by GoldenDragonKing.

Seeing the appearance of so many Mudkip, even Cain, with all his experience, was sowhat surprised.

So many?

Does the Alliance really trust leaving so many starter Pokémon in Professor Birch’s backyard?

But, in reality, the Alliance has complete trust in him.

After all, Professor Birch is the most prominent of the few Pokémon research doctors in the Hoenn region, and his personal strength is not exactly weak either.

The Hoenn region does not have particularly powerful underground organizations, so there is no need to worry about such matters.

"All the Mudkip are here. See if any catch your eye," said Professor Birch as he pulled a handful of food from his white coat and placed it on the ground.

Before Professor Birch could say anything else, Cain had already begun using his system to scan the data of the Mudkip.

However, Cain quickly frowned.

Although there were many Mudkip, the quality surprised him—not because it was too high, but because it was quite low or, rather, very inconsistent.

The Mudkip with the lowest quality was barely light green, and there were quite a few in that category.

This shows that although there are many Mudkip here, Professor Birch has not made any specific efforts to adjust the quality of the Mudkip living in this area.

But, thinking about it, Professor Birch specializes in researching Pokémon habitats and distribution, so the specific qualities of Pokémon are not really relevant to him.

Fortunately, the number of Mudkip was sufficient.

As the saying goes, if you can’t win with quality, do it with quantity.

Cain had plenty of room to select the Mudkip that convinced him the most.

As a key mber of his future rain team, Cain paid particular attention to choosing Mudkip.

In addition to Swampert, Mudkip’s final form, Cain also had another important Pokémon in mind for his rain team: Ludicolo.

With its water and grass types and Swift Swim ability, Ludicolo is also an excellent choice for a rain team. However, now that Cain could obtain a Mudkip, his need to search for a Ludicolo was not as urgent.

He could wait to find a good one in the future without actively looking for it.

Cain asked the system to list the data of the Mudkip with relatively acceptable qualities.

Finally, Cain decided on one of them, which was, in fact, one of the most outstanding.

Pokémon: Mudkip (Light Blue)

Gender: Male

Level: 5

Type: Water

Ability: Torrent

Held Item: None

Egg Moves: Ancient Power, Bite, Ice Ball, Refresh

Basic Moves: Tackle, Growl, Water Gun

Learned Moves: Water Pulse, Aqua Tail

TM Moves: None

This Mudkip had the best quality among all present, and its egg and learned moves weren’t bad at all; all were attack moves, which indicated it had faced other Pokémon in battle.

For a level 5 Pokémon to have learned so many moves was already a remarkable achievent.

"I’ll go with this little one," Cain said, pointing to the Mudkip near Professor Birch.

"Oh?" Professor Birch picked up the little one and lifted it.

He examined it from head to toe to confirm it had no injuries or illnesses.

Mudkip stayed still, evidently familiar with Professor Birch, who often fed them; it did not resist or oppose.

It only observed Cain with a curious gaze.

For so reason, it felt it would soon part ways with its companions.

Although it felt a bit nostalgic, its desire to explore the outside world was stronger.

"Your choice is very sharp—not for nothing are you a Pokémon breeder. This little one is one of the most outstanding among all the Mudkip here," Professor Birch said with a smile after confirming Mudkip’s condition.

Although Professor Birch primarily focuses on Pokémon habitats and distribution, as a Pokémon researcher, he can differentiate their abilities and potential.

However, he did not intervene in Cain’s selection.

Trainers choose Pokémon, and Pokémon also choose trainers. Only when both sides agree can the choice be considered correct.

When Professor Birch approached Cain with Mudkip, and Mudkip did not resist, he knew that even though the Pokémon did not fully understand what was happening, it did not reject Cain’s presence.

That was enough.

"Well, I’ll leave this little one for you to try capturing. I’ll wait for you outside," said Professor Birch after leading Cain a bit away from the lake.

All the Pokémon in this place were wild Pokémon that had not yet been captured, so Cain would need to use his skills to capture Mudkip.

For a level 5 Pokémon, a force-based capture thod wouldn’t be appropriate.

Cain placed Mudkip on the ground.

Mudkip looked at him with its big round eyes, curious to see what Cain would do next.

Cain slowly crouched and gently patted Mudkip’s head. Its texture reminded him of his old Slowpoke.

"A familiar feeling," Cain thought.

Then, he activated telepathic communication.

"Mudkip, would you like to co with to explore the vast outside world?" Cain asked telepathically.

"Gulu?" Mudkip’s eyes widened suddenly. It looked around but saw no one other than Cain.

Clearly, it had felt a voice in its head—a voice it could understand.

"Don’t look around; it’s speaking to you," Cain continued.

This ti, Mudkip beca convinced the voice in its head ca from the human in front of it.

So amazing!

Mudkip felt its curiosity had been completely piqued.

Cain turned his palm to reveal several Pokéblocks specially made for Mudkip. Before coming to capture it, Cain had already prepared these specific Pokéblocks.

Upon slling the aroma, Mudkip’s eyes widened even more. It looked at Cain, then at the Pokéblocks in his hand, and couldn’t help but devour them all in one bite.

"What do you think? Would you like to co with to see the outside world? It’s huge, with many fun things, interesting Pokémon, and fascinating people. Of course, there will also be many battles, but as a reward, there will be lots of these delicious Pokéblocks," Cain tempted.

For a Mudkip like this, which had never seen the world and had an innocent mind, the unknown and delicious food were the greatest temptations possible.

Sure enough, after hearing Cain’s words, Mudkip hesitated for a mont but quickly stopped resisting and nodded.

Cain smiled.

He took out an empty Poké Ball and showed it to Mudkip.

Monts later, Mudkip was successfully captured inside the Poké Ball.

Mudkip, successfully captured!

Cain’s rain team was practically complete!
