The first reason Cain took an interest in this Whiscash wasn’t its level or abilities but its type.
The water-and-ground combination gives Whiscash a significant type advantage. Apart from its quadruple weakness to grass-type moves, no other type can deal more than normal damage to Whiscash.
Moreover, it is immune to electric-type attacks and has double resistance to poison, rock, steel, and fire-type moves.
It’s an excellent type combination. Even Mudkip’s final evolution, Swampert, which Cain greatly values, possesses this sa combination.
This Whiscash had clearly survived for a long ti. Although whiskers are naturally long for this type of Pokémon, this particular Whiscash’s whiskers were twice as long as its body, indicating its age.
Although it only had a light green quality, its long life had allowed it to reach level 40, corresponding to the advanced level. It’s quite a useful Pokémon.
Given Cain’s current situation, this Pokémon’s utility far exceeds its value as a long-term project. Therefore, for a newly established water-type gym, Whiscash will serve perfectly as one of the key Pokémon.
Defeating this Whiscash was sowhat challenging, especially since there was no type advantage. Even so, Slowking, Sneasel, and Skorupi managed to subdue it.
anwhile, Honchkrow and Haunter took care of the smaller Pokémon that kept swarming from the water.
Whiscash’s appearance indicated that Vileplu’s Sweet Scent move had reached the lake’s depths. Whiscash lives at the bottom, in the mud, and is not picky about food, eating whatever it finds. This also explains why it has survived for so long.
After a small struggle, Cain captured Whiscash with a Pokéball.
With that, Cain completed his main mission. He already had Slowking and a Gyarados as water mounts, although the latter wasn’t particularly strong. Still, for a new gym, it would suffice.
In the future, he would also have Mudkip and Poliwag, which would evolve and further enhance his team. With these six water-type Pokémon, he’d have what he needed for his gym, regardless of the battle format.
"That’s enough, Vileplu," Cain said.
Seeing that water-type Pokémon continued to erge without stopping, Cain signaled Vileplu to stop using the Sweet Scent move. Although Vileplu had been replenishing energy through Ingrain and Synthesis moves, it was already at its limit. Fortunately, Cain stopped it just in ti.
After returning Vileplu to its Pokéball, Cain began searching among the Pokémon that had erged from the water for ones he could take to his garden.
He discarded low-quality Magikarp and Goldeen but captured Spheal, Corphish, and so other rarer Pokémon. These could be useful for populating his garden pond.
In total, Cain captured around fifty Pokémon, practically doubling the variety of species in his garden.
Just as he was about to leave, he noticed sothing strange floating on the lake’s surface. It was a kind of yellow shell that resembled a rock, but underneath it, Cain spotted two small red spheres that looked like eyes.
If he wasn’t mistaken, those were the eyes of this strange Pokémon.
However, since Vileplu had already stopped using the Sweet Scent move, the Pokémon that had barely surfaced quickly dove back into the water.
Even so, Cain managed to see it, and a na imdiately ca to mind: Kabuto.
This lake seed to hold more secrets than he’d thought, as it contained not only Relicanth but also Kabuto. However, considering that Relicanth was also present, Kabuto’s presence didn’t seem so out of place.
With thoughts racing, Cain pulled out all his Pokéballs, recalling Honchkrow and the others. Then, using his telepathy, he communicated with Slowking.
"Slowking, did you see that Pokémon with the yellow helt-like shell? Follow it!"
At the command, Slowking’s eyes glowed red, and it teleported with Cain to the spot where Kabuto had disappeared.
Quickly, Slowking created a psychic barrier to envelop Cain, and they dove into the water together.
Initially, Cain hadn’t intended to dive again, but upon seeing Kabuto, a rare Pokémon from ancient tis, he couldn’t miss the chance to investigate it.
Underwater, the previously turbulent lake began to calm. However, beneath the surface, things were changing.
Cain and Slowking followed Kabuto to a great depth.
The lake, which initially seed shallow, began to show fissures, so small and others quite large. Kabuto slipped into one of the larger fissures.
Slowking looked at Cain, awaiting instructions.
After a mont of hesitation, Cain said, "Follow it, but be careful and keep your psychic abilities fully activated."
With a slight nod, Slowking and Cain continued. The crevice was narrow, and they had to shrink the psychic barrier to pass through.
Carefully, they crossed a long underwater canyon. As they descended, the light gradually faded until the surroundings beca completely dark, like a moonless night.
Fortunately, both Cain and Slowking could use their psychic abilities to perceive their surroundings.
After crossing the canyon, the space widened.
Suddenly!
A light appeared in the distance, shining like a star in the darkness.
Cautiously, they approached and discovered that the light ca from a Lanturn living in the depths.
Scanning it with his system, Cain discovered it was a level 30 Lanturn with light green quality.
Cain ordered Slowking to weaken it, captured it with a Pokéball, and convinced it through telepathy and promises of food and freedom to help illuminate their path.
Lanturn, familiar with its surroundings, agreed to guide them. After Cain described Kabuto’s appearance, Lanturn pointed to the location where these Pokémon lived.
