Steven stood behind Cain, observing everything he did. Although he didn’t fully understand his intentions, he decided not to interrupt or stop him and watched patiently.

Magmar accepted the advanced Pokéblocks that Cain offered. Cautiously, it took one and put it in its mouth, savoring it like a delicacy.

After eating one, it paused and cleverly hid the rest in a spot so ingenious that even Cain couldn’t clearly see where it went.

Then ca the mont to witness a miracle.

A characteristic psychic glow appeared in Cain’s eyes.

The eyes are the window to the soul, and psychic abilities are a combination of the mind and heart’s capabilities, so the most visible part of using a psychic skill is, precisely, the eyes.

Cain’s eyes shone with a blue light, and a thin thread of light-blue psychic energy connected his mind to Magmar’s.

Telepathy.

Or, more precisely, an advanced use of telepathy that allows one to directly perceive the intentions of the other party through psychic energy.

In other words, Cain could communicate with Magmar and understand its thoughts, just as Magmar could comprehend Cain’s words.

Steven, standing to the side, looked at Cain with wide eyes, as if he had seen a ghost.

What am I seeing?

Psychic powers?

No, a psychic?

Cain is a psychic?

Is this what Cain had been hiding?!

A genius breeder and also a psychic!

This is incredible!

Steven’s amazent was exactly what Cain had anticipated, but at that mont, he had no ti to worry about it. The advanced telepathy he was using was a skill he had only recently learned.

It requires extrely precise control of psychic abilities, sothing Cain was still perfecting. So, for him, using this skill was quite challenging.

Patiently, Cain began connecting with Magmar’s thoughts.

"Magmar, can you hear ?" Cain asked ntally.

Hearing Cain’s voice in its head, Magmar jumped, looking around for soone else, but it didn’t see anyone.

"Stop looking around. It’s , the person in front of you, the one who gave you that delicious food," Cain said with resignation.

When Cain said these words, Magmar, with so doubt, focused on him. It had never seen anything so incredible before.

It took five minutes before Magmar finally accepted Cain’s special ability.

Then ca the crucial mont of communication.

Magmar really struggled to articulate its thoughts, likely because wild Pokémon generally aren’t skilled at organizing and expressing their ideas. Cain could only understand it with difficulty.

After fifteen minutes, Cain withdrew his psychic ability and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He felt slightly dizzy, as that specific use of telepathy had pushed him to his limit.

"Whew..." he exhaled deeply.

At that mont, a handkerchief appeared in front of Cain; Steven had already regained his usual calm deanor.

Cain had revealed his psychic ability, which had shocked Steven greatly. However, Cain had also shown him trust by doing so.

"Thanks," Cain said with a simple word of gratitude as he took the handkerchief and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

He then added, "I just communicated with Magmar, but it’s true that wild Pokémon have serious difficulty organizing their thoughts and expressing them clearly." Cain couldn’t help but complain a little.

If it had been Honchkrow, it could have explained the entire situation in under three minutes, but with Magmar, it was another matter.

Not to ntion Slowking, a Pokémon whose intelligence rivals that of humans.

No comparison, no harm.

Cain had ntally prepared himself for a complicated process, but he hadn’t expected it to be this troubleso.

"From what I could understand from Magmar, it seems that so creatures similar to us have appeared at the top of the mountain, which should an humans. Moreover, they brought Pokémon that Magmar had never seen before."

"Although they didn’t attack directly, they caused damage to its habitat. The Magmar tried to resist but were easily repelled," Cain explained briefly.

"Such a simple situation, how could it beco so complicated?" Cain sighed.

Hearing Cain, Steven placed a hand on his chin, adopting a thoughtful expression.

Based on what Cain had explained, it ant that a group of unknown humans had appeared at the top of Mt. Chimney, causing environntal damage that significantly affected the Pokémon living there.

The reason the two Magmar they encountered were so desperate might have been because of those humans.

With Steven’s ability, he didn’t need more explanations.

In truth, for Steven, the most surprising thing at that mont was the fact that Cain turned out to be a psychic.

Seeing Steven’s expression, Cain let out a small, bitter laugh. He knew this conversation wouldn’t be easy.

After organizing his thoughts a bit, he said: "I know you’re probably surprised that I’m a psychic. Yes, I’m a psychic, but one of the most basic ones—the most inexperienced type that only knows how to use telepathy and a few elentary techniques."

"With my talent, I’ll probably never be able to advance beyond this level."

Cain’s words plunged Steven into a mont of silence.

The atmosphere between them grew a bit tense.

Skorupi and Lairon, who were nearby, hugging each other like friends, didn’t understand why their trainers were acting so strangely.

"This is too much!" Steven exclaid.

Cain felt a small jolt in his heart, and without realizing it, his hand moved toward his belt, where his Pokéballs were.

This was a problem he had to face, and Cain was already prepared for the worst. He wasn’t yet a match for Steven, but with Slowking’s help and its ability to use Teleport, he was confident he could escape.

"This is truly too much! Cain, you’re a psychic! And I’m only finding out now! It’s unacceptable! The last ti we battled, you didn’t use your psychic power." Steven displayed his characteristic confident smile.

To Steven, learning that Cain was a psychic only caused surprise and a bit of envy; he had no negative thoughts about Cain for having hidden this information.

Hidden isn’t the right word, is it?

Cain is a prodigy, and revealing that he had psychic abilities wouldn’t have brought him any benefit; in fact, it could only have brought danger.

So this was Cain’s trump card.

No wonder I admire him.

He really is a genius!

Seeing Steven’s confident smile, Cain let out a sigh of relief.

Almost.

Cain almost thought he would have to break away from the League.
