He did not have absolute confidence that he could defeat Shiko.
If he ended up like Yveltal, beaten into a dormant state, there was no telling how long it would take before he could recover again.
His choice to back down first made Shiko feel sowhat surprised.
He had thought that all these First-tier Legendaries were endlessly arrogant, sacred, and untouchable.
