"BOOOOOOM!!!!—"

Like a falling teor, the water curtain around Gyarados exploded into a wave of spray, rising like a mushroom cloud from a nuclear blast. It enveloped both Tyrantrum and Gyarados in the arena.

The explosion echoed for a long ti, the ground trembling in a testant to the terrifying power of the blow.

After about ten seconds...

The splashed water fell like rain, soaking half the arena.

Where the explosion had occurred, a massive crater had been blasted into the ground. Inside, Gyarados still held its massive body upright.

In front of Gyarados, Tyrantrum, the tyrant of a million years ago, lay motionless on the ground. It had clearly lost all ability to battle and fainted.

"Tyrantrum is unable to battle!! Gyarados wins the match!!"

"Ding!! LV.53 Gyarados defeated LV.69 Tyrantrum! Received: 26,000 Gold!!"

"Ding! Spoils of War triggered! Congratulations, Host, for receiving an additional reward: Secondary Hero Replicator x2!"

A series of system notifications rang in Kenji's ear, accompanied by Gyarados's roar.

"THUD! THUD! THUD!!—"

Its thick tail slamd heavily onto the ground, creating loud thuds.

"So it's you..."

Brockton recalled Tyrantrum, squeezing the words out through gritted teeth.

When he saw that Aqua teor, Brockton finally rembered where he had seen Kenji's face.

As the prodigy among prodigies at tropolis Academy, Kenji's na had long since spread among the upper echelons of the National League.

It was just that Brockton wasn't interested in such things. He had heard of it, but that was all.

It wasn't until Gyarados defeated his Tyrantrum in one hit that Brockton suddenly rembered.

Kenji, standing far away in the opposite trainer's box, naturally didn't hear what Brockton said.

Seeing Brockton hesitate to send out his next Pokémon, the referee had to urge him.

Only then did Brockton throw out another Pokémon.

"POP!!"

"AGGRON!!!—"

The Pokéball burst open, and a Pokémon over two humans tall landed on the field.

Its height was comparable to Gyarados even when Gyarados wasn't fully extended.

The Pokémon was covered in heavy armor, looking like a monster cast from steel. A sharp horn protruded from its head.

On that steel-forged armor, countless scars of all shapes and sizes were visible, scars that seed to have been there for a long ti.

Aggron

Level: LV.69

Type: Rock/Steel

Ability: Heavy tal (Doubles the Pokémon's weight)

Potential: B-

Aggron. The first ti Kenji saw this Pokémon, he had thought it was a pseudo-legendary like Tyranitar.

Mostly because its appearance was just too intimidating, like a steel monster.

Although Aggron wasn't a pseudo-legendary, its base stats weren't low, reaching 530. Its Defense stat was ridiculously high at 180.

As Kenji collected more badges, the number of Gym Leader-level Pokémon the Gym Leaders could use increased.

Opposite him, Brockton's expression was incredibly serious.

Being swept 3-0 by a college freshman was completely unacceptable for a Provincial Gym Leader like Brockton.

Of course, Brockton's feelings were irrelevant.

After all, Brockton wasn't the first Provincial Gym Leader Kenji had thrashed, and he wouldn't be the last.

"I'm counting on you, old friend."

Brockton looked at his Aggron with a gentle gaze.

Unlike Tyrantrum, this Aggron had been with Brockton for a much, much longer ti.

It had been with him basically since he first beca a trainer.

However, during Brockton's travels, Aggron suffered a severe injury that caused irreversible damage to its foundation, making further breakthroughs impossible. To this day, it remained at the peak of the Gym Leader-level.

But Aggron was one of Brockton's first Pokémon. Even if it couldn't level up further, its combat awareness and move proficiency were impeccable.

Having stayed at the peak of the Gym Leader-level for over a decade, it hadn't wasted that ti.

Its true strength was enough to rival so weaker Elite Four-level Pokémon.

"AGGRON!!!—"

On the field, Aggron roared and charged at Gyarados.

Heavy Slam!! The heavier the user compared to the target, the greater the power. Used by an Aggron with the Heavy tal ability, its power was taken to another level.

"ROOOAR!!!—"

"Dragon Ascent Waterfall!!"

Gyarados roared and imdiately used Waterfall again, charging at Aggron.

In the battle with Tyrantrum, Gyarados had used Protect twice in a row. Using it again would likely fail, aning neither Freight Train Charge nor Aqua teor were suitable options anymore.

The two behemoths, Gyarados and Aggron, soon clashed on the battlefield.

Just as Aggron's massive body was about to slam into Gyarados, Gyarados twisted its body, dodging the Heavy Slam entirely.

The next instant, Gyarados spun around, raising its tail to whip the Aggron that hadn't been able to stop its montum.

Aqua Tail!!

"CLANG!!!"

Just as the Aqua Tail was about to land, a tallic sheen suddenly lit up on Aggron's back, right where the attack would hit.

"THUD!!!—"

With a muffled sound, the Aqua Tail slamd heavily into Aggron's back. The powerful force caused Aggron's heavy body to stumble forward a few steps faster.

Kenji frowned. That heavy Aqua Tail should have done more damage than that.

Water-type moves were 2x super effective against the Rock/Steel-type Aggron.

The change on Aggron's body hadn't escaped Kenji's notice.

It was Iron Defense.

But ordinary Iron Defense boosted the defense of the entire body.

The Iron Defense Aggron just used was completely different.

It concentrated the Iron Defense on a specific part of the body, maximizing defense in that area just before the attack landed.

To refine Iron Defense to this level required not only an extraordinary understanding of the move but also extre control over one's own body.

It was impressive that Aggron could pull that off.
