Facing the onrushing beast, Shiftry raised a hand and fired a Solar Beam.
Against this Grass-type nuke with 120 base power, Electivire wasn't foolish enough to tank it head-on. Although its Thunder Armor was strong enough to withstand the hit, it would be a needless waste of stamina. It sidestepped, letting the beam scorch the air beside it.
By the ti the beam faded, Electivire was already in Shiftry's face, a Thunder Punch crackling in its hand, while Shiftry had reford its Solar Blade.

Brilliant yellow lightning clashed violently with scorching white solar energy.
Thanks to the high base power of Solar Blade and the ho-field advantage provided by Zephyr's mysterious ability, Shiftry was losing ground, but it wasn't instantly crushed by the Thunder Armor-clad Electivire.
However, Shiftry couldn't keep up with the stamina drain. Solar Blade was exhausting to use repeatedly, and even with Zephyr's support, its recovery speed couldn't match the rate at which it was burning energy.

Just as Electivire raised its fist for a finishing blow, Zephyr finally spoke up, recalling his exhausted Pokémon.
On one hand, Shiftry was clearly losing; dragging it out was pointless. On the other hand, using his special ability was draining for Zephyr as well. That was why he had waited until he secured the Forest Field—the perfect environnt—before activating it.
After recalling Shiftry, Zephyr's expression turned solemn. He reached for a distinctive Poké Ball at his waist.
It was Sceptile's ball.

Red light flashed. Sceptile, who had opened the match earlier, returned to the field.
"Do it! Sceptile!! ga Evolve!!"
This ti, Zephyr didn't hesitate. The mont Sceptile appeared, Zephyr raised his arm, revealing the Key Stone on his wrist.
Rainbow-colored light enveloped Sceptile. When the light faded, ga Sceptile stood on the field for the second ti in the National League.
Zephyr looked at Kenji calmly, waiting for his next move.
ga Sceptile wasn't just quad-resistant to Electric attacks due to its Grass/Dragon typing; it also possessed the Ability Lightning Rod, which granted immunity to all Electric moves.
No matter how strong Electivire was, without its Electric attacks, how much fighting power did it have left?
However, while ga Sceptile feared no lightning, it had a fatal 4x weakness to Ice.
Given Electivire's fighting style, there was a high probability it knew the elental punches—Ice Punch, Fire Punch, and Thunder Punch. And indeed, Electivire seed to love punching almost as much as it loved zapping things.
This was why Zephyr had hesitated to send Sceptile out earlier. He had intended to wear Electivire down with his other Pokémon first, forcing Kenji to switch once his electric tank was weakened.
But to his surprise, the first half ended, and Electivire showed zero signs of fatigue. In fact, it seed more energetic the longer it fought. This was entirely thanks to the Hand of Justice item, which provided constant healing. Items like Hand of Justice and Bloodthirster were true sweep enablers.
The audience, knowledgeable about Pokémon chanics, buzzed with anticipation. They knew about ga Sceptile's Lightning Rod.
Would Kenji stubbornly keep Electivire in, or would he switch to his third Pokémon?
So far, Kenji had only used Slaking and Electivire.
Slaking was strong, but it hadn't fully matured yet—not even reaching Elite level. It was great for stomping noobs, but against a ga Sceptile, it would struggle. The chance of Kenji swapping it in was low.
That left... Tyranitar, the only other Pokémon Kenji had revealed in this tournant.
Or perhaps... a new, unseen Pokémon?
The crowd held its breath.

The lingering electric energy from the Electric Terrain Electivire had set up was sucked out of the earth, flowing like a river into ga Sceptile's tail.
As the electricity surged into its body, the yellow seeds on its back began to glow.
Lightning Rod activated. Upon entry, it absorbed the opponent's terrain to boost its own Special Attack.
Kenji paused for a mont, then raised his hand to recall Electivire.
"Return, Electivire."
Although it hadn't taken much damage, maintaining Thunder Armor for so long had drained a significant amount of stamina. Fighting a ga Evolved Ace buffed by Zephyr's ability without Electric moves would be an uphill battle.
Kenji reached for another Poké Ball at his waist.
"It's showti!! Go!!! Gyarados!!"
The ball burst open, and red light shot onto the field.
"ROAAAARRRR!!!!"
Before the light even fully materialized, a deafening roar exploded across the arena.
"Ha... Haya!!"
ga Sceptile's pupils shrank to pinpoints. Instinctively, it took two steps back, staring at the forming shape with eyes full of wariness and dread.
BOOM!!!
The red light shattered, revealing the colossal form of Gyarados. The mont it appeared, it slamd its tail onto the ground.
Rumble... The entire stadium shook.
A terrifying pressure, thick and heavy like a tsunami, rolled off Gyarados and crushed down on everything in the vicinity.
ga Sceptile found it hard to breathe. Its hands trembled slightly. A seed of primal fear took root in its heart, shaking its will to fight.
It wasn't just ga Sceptile—the audience fell silent in unison.
Adults felt a chill run down their spines. Children squeezed their eyes shut and buried their faces in their parents' chests.
Since breaking through to the Gym Leader level (Level 60 ), the chemical reaction between Gyarados's natural Pressure and its Intimidate Ability had beco horrifyingly potent.
