"Li..."

Bellossom tilted her head, looking directly at Poliwrath. But unlike the deep slumber Tanya had envisioned, nothing happened.

Bellossom simply blinked her eyes at the swirling, hypnotic pattern on Poliwrath's belly. Not only did she not fall asleep, she didn't even muster a yawn.

"She didn't look away?! Why isn't she sleeping?!" Tanya scread internally. She didn't know that upon reaching its potential limit, Kenji's Bellossom had awakened the ability to be completely immune to status conditions while under the sun.

"Bellossom, Solar Beam."

"Li!!! —"

"Poliwrath! Dodge—!!"

Kenji's command was like a starter pistol. The sunlight gathered on the two red flowers atop Bellossom's head and detonated in an instant. Tanya's eyes went wide; she didn't even have ti to finish her warning before the attack was already away.

A pillar of blinding white solar fire, as thick as a grown man's torso, tore through the arena, hurtling toward Poliwrath.

The Manazane effect was still active. Combined with the Radiant Blue Buff and the Sunny Day environnt, the Solar Beam had zero charge ti. It was a literal railgun.

Poliwrath didn't have a prayer.

KRA-KOOM!!!! —

The Solar Beam struck dead center. Poliwrath was launched backward by the sheer force of the kinetic and thermal impact.

The audience sat in stunned silence. The speed of the execution was simply wrong. Whether it was the Sunny Day setup or the Solar Beam, Bellossom was bypassing the standard rules of engagent.

Poliwrath tumbled through the air before hitting the floor with a wet thud. It lay flat on its back, eyes spinning in its head. It was out cold.

One-Shot KO!!!

Tanya Tang, a top-five championship seed, had just watched her second-strongest Pokémon get deleted in a heartbeat.

Kenji's expression remained perfectly neutral. He knew the math. A 120-base-power STAB move, boosted by Solar Power, a Radiant Rabadon's Deathcap, and 4-Star base stats... against a Water-type with a 2x weakness?

Survival wasn't an option.

This was Bellossom. She looked like a cute flower fairy, but under the sun, she was a terrifying mobile artillery unit. If she had a more aggressive personality, she'd be the undisputed boss of Kenji's team. As it stood, her raw power was surpassed only by Beedrill, Darkrai, and Arbok.

"Poliwrath is unable to battle!! Bellossom wins the round!!"

The referee took a second to find his voice before waving the flag. Tanya silently recalled her Pokémon, her fighting spirit severely dampened.

However, she was a professional. She took a breath, adjusted her posture, and threw her final ball.

"Go!!! Infernape!!!"

"Haqia!!!! —"

The fire monkey returned to the field, its head-fla roaring with renewed intensity.

"Return, Bellossom."

Kenji recalled the flower. Even with the type advantage, he didn't want to overwork her. He had a different answer for this opponent.

"ROAAAARR!!!! —"

Gyarados reappeared, its massive blue fra filling the arena with its oppressive aura.

The serpent slamd its tail into the ground, looking thoroughly annoyed. As a Water-type, Gyarados had a biological aversion to Sunny Day. The heat made it irritable and twice as aggressive as usual.

Infernape, on the other hand, was ecstatic. The harsh sunlight supercharged its Fire-type abilities.

"Flathrower!!"

"Haqia!!!"

Infernape unleashed a roaring pillar of fla. Under the Sunny Day, the power of the move was massively increased. Even with Gyarados's natural resistance, the heat was blinding.

"ROAARR!!!"

Facing the incoming inferno, Gyarados whipped its tail around, summoning a massive torrent of water.

Aqua Tail!!!

SHHHHHHHHH!!! —

Steam erupted violently as water t fire. But because the sun was out, the Water-type move was significantly weakened while the Fire move was buffed. The trade-off was nearly even, which was a ridiculous outco for a resisted hit.

Infernape pressed the advantage, firing another Flathrower.

"Waterfall!!"

Gyarados covered itself in a shimring veil of water. It didn't try to tank the fire head-on this ti; it used the montum of the move to twist its massive body, grazing past the flas with a nimble dodge.

Boosted by the speed of its Waterfall dash, it moved like a blue lightning bolt under the scorching sun.
