POP! POP! POP!! —
A series of sounds, like balloons bursting, echoed across the battlefield.
One by one, the illusions of Ninetales shattered under the vibration of the Hyper Voice. Finally, only one Ninetales remained.
Without a doubt, this was the real body.
The fox opened its maw, and a massive Fire Blast roared toward Hippowdon. Boosted by five stages of Special Attack, the heat radiating from the flas was so intense it distorted the very air around it.
Hippowdon didn't dare take the hit. Escape was impossible given its speed, so it had no choice but to brace itself and activate Protect.
As the giant grounded itself, staring down the incoming kanji of fire and waiting for the inevitable explosion against its shield, sothing bizarre happened.
Just as the Fire Blast was about to slam into the green barrier, it flickered and vanished into thin air.
Simultaneously, the silhouette of Ninetales disappeared as well.
"Behind you!!!" Hu Ren roared.
Hippowdon tried to wheel around, but it was too late.
Before the heavy beast could even complete its turn, the real Ninetales—already positioned at its rear—unleashed a fully charged Solar Beam.
Under the Harsh Sunlight, Ninetales's execution speed couldn't match Bellossom's instant-cast railgun, but against a sluggish target like Hippowdon, it was more than fast enough.
KRA-KOOM!!!! —
A Protect barrier only covers the front. It offered no protection for Hippowdon's exposed back.
The devastating pillar of light struck the giant square in the spine. Hippowdon let out a single, strangled cry before its massive fra toppled forward like a falling building.
Double-effective damage, 5 Special Attack boost. Even though it wasn't a STAB move for Ninetales, the sheer mathematical weight of the attack resulted in an effortless one-shot.
"Hippowdon is unable to battle! Ninetales wins the round!!!"
The referee's flag dropped. The stadium was silent for a heartbeat before a wave of murmurs broke out.
The fight between Excadrill and Bellossom had been a back-and-forth struggle. But this?
This was a total shutdown.
Hu Ren stared at the field, unable to process how Ninetales had appeared behind his Pokémon and completed a high-level move so quickly.
He didn't understand because he didn't know the truth: No one expected a Ninetales to possess a dual-ability set of Drought and the god-tier Illusion.
[Ninetales] (4-Star)
Gender: Female
Level: 74 (Elite)
Type: Fire
Abilities: Drought, Illusion
Base Stats Total: 685
(HP: 100, Atk: 105, Def: 100, SpA: 110, SpD: 135, Spe: 135)
Potential: S
Ninetales wasn't as obsessed with pure power as the others, so its level sat at 74—just two stages higher than Electivire.
Hu Ren recalled Hippowdon, his expression turning cold.
A Ninetales with three Quiver Dances and a Nasty Plot under its belt was a nightmare. It had beco a boss-level threat that could potentially sweep his entire remaining roster.
In his team, only one partner had the raw power to delete this fox.
"Go!! Garchomp!!!"
"KAAAA!!!! —"
Hu Ren hurled his ball with a violent snap of his wrist.
A blue, shark-like bipedal dragon hit the sand. Its underbelly was a deep, bruised red, and its arms were tipped with small, jet-like wings.
The Pseudo-Legendary terror of the Sinnoh region: Garchomp.
[Garchomp]
Gender: Female
Level: 97 (Champion)
Type: Ground / Dragon
Ability: Rough Skin (Damages the opponent upon contact.)
Potential: S
Although Garchomp was a Ground-type, it was a master of the skies, capable of folding its wings to fly at speeds approaching Mach 1. Its favorite pasti was diving into flocks of bird Pokémon and shredding them mid-air with its razor-sharp claws.
"Shark of the shifting sands, tear through the curtain of history!!! Garchomp!! ga Evolve!!!"
Hu Ren slamd his hand onto the Key Stone embedded in his belt.
"KAAAA!!!! —"
Garchomp roared, its claws glowing as it threw its head back. Rainbow light erupted from its body, forming a pillar of energy that reached the stadium roof.
SHATTER!!!! —
The light exploded, revealing ga Garchomp.
The wings on its arms had transford into massive, jagged red scythes. Its stature had grown taller and leaner, and a row of serrated blades had erupted from its golden-underbellied torso.
Just by looking at it, one could tell that ga Garchomp was a being of pure, unadulterated aggression. It was a predator designed to turn anything in its path into ribbons.
[ga Garchomp]
Gender: Female
Level: 97 (Champion)
Type: Ground / Dragon
Ability: Sand Force (Boosts Ground, Rock, and Steel moves in a sandstorm.)
Potential: S
In the gas, ga Garchomp was often criticized because its Speed stat actually dropped by 10 points upon evolution.
But in real-world combat, its threat level was undeniable. While the scythes made it slightly less aerodynamic, its Attack stat hit a monstrous base of 170. Combined with Sand Force, it was a walking earthquake that could end a fight with a single graze.
Even with her 5 Special Attack, Ninetales was 23 levels lower than this monster. If ga Garchomp landed even a single physical blow, Kenji would be forced to use his [Last Stand] Hex Core imdiately.
"Mo..."
Ninetales moved first. It spat a gout of eerie, flickering purple fire at the dragon.
Will-O-Wisp!!
If it landed, the burn would halve ga Garchomp's physical damage, effectively neutralizing its greatest threat.
"KAAA!!! —"
ga Garchomp swung its massive scythe-arm. A violent localized vortex erupted in front of it.
Twister!!
The dragon-powered gale collided with the purple sparks, shredding the Will-O-Wisp before the flas could even get close.
The Twister didn't stop, continuing its path toward Ninetales.
Facing the incoming wind, Ninetales used Teleport, vanishing from the spot.
Garchomp's design was based on a shark, and it possessed the sa legendary sensory capabilities. The protrusions on its head weren't just for show; they were highly sensitive acoustic and electrical sensors.
The mont Ninetales vanished, ga Garchomp didn't look for it with its eyes. It felt the displacent in the air.
It spun around instantly, raising a clawed hand as Ninetales materialized.
Stone Edge!!
Jagged pillars of rock erupted from the sand, shooting toward the fox with lethal velocity.
This wasn't the Stone Edge of the Hippowdon. This was a Champion-level strike. Ninetales had no confidence in controlling this with telekinesis. It was forced to Teleport again, playing a dangerous ga of survival.
