"Double Team!"
SWISH SWISH SWISH!!! —
As Ninetales reappeared behind Excadrill, its silhouette instantly splintered
into dozens of identical copies. These clones imdiately began a frantic,
crisscrossing dash around the arena, weaving a chaotic web of movent to mask
the real body's location.
"Rock Tomb!!"
Facing the army of foxes, Excadrill let out a sharp cry. In mid-air, several
massive boulders materialized.
KRA-KOOM!
The rocks didn't target the clones. Instead, they slamd into the ground
directly around Excadrill itself, forming a crude stone fortress.
"Rapid Spin!!! —"
The mont the rocks hit, Mason issued his second command. Excadrill began to
spin with enough RPM to generate a vacuum. Its steel claws hamred against the
surrounding boulders, pulverizing them into a billion high-velocity shards that
sprayed outward in a 360-degree radius.
The shrapnel was so dense that no matter where the clones were, they couldn't
avoid being hit.
Double Team clones are fragile; they pop like bubbles at the slightest contact.
A series of faint popping sounds filled the air as the "shrapnel shotgun"
cleared the field.
Within seconds, the clones were gone. And thanks to the Rapid Spin, Excadrill's
speed had now been boosted to 3 stages.
However, as the clones popped, they didn't simply vanish. They dissolved into a
thick, inky black smoke that rapidly expanded to blanket the entire arena.
Excadrill stood in the center of the gloom, its ears twitching as it tried to
track the predator.
"Psych Up!" (Self-Suggestion)
"MO..."
Psych Up: Copies the opponent's stat changes.
Suddenly, a flicker of white light pulsed within the black mist.
Excadrill's eyes narrowed. Target acquired. It didn't wait. It triggered a
max-speed Drill Run, rocketing toward the source of the light. It moved so fast
it carved a physical tunnel through the smoke.
"WAIT!! EXCADRILL, WATCH OUT!!"
"Fire Blast!!"
There's an old saying: "The spectator sees clearly, while the player is
confused."
Inside the arena, Excadrill was hyper-focused on the fight, seizing a seemingly
perfect opening. But from the sidelines, Mason could see the whole board. And as
the white light pulsed, he realized there wasn't just one source.
Three separate points of white light had ignited within the smoke.
Driven by its montum, Excadrill slamd its drill into the first light. To its
shock, its body passed clean through the silhouette of Ninetales without popping
it. It was a solid, tangible illusion.
At the exact sa ti, a massive "Fire" (大) kanji tore through the smoke from
behind Excadrill, aid directly at its back.
Excadrill hesitated for a heartbeat as its brain tried to reconcile the two
foxes. That second of confusion was fatal.
"Dig!!!"
Mason scread the order. Excadrill felt the blistering heat behind it and
didn't bother checking its posture. It dove headfirst into the dirt, clawing its
way underground.
BOOM!!!! —
The Fire Blast struck the floor, erupting into a massive mushroom cloud of fire.
The heat was so intense it turned the surface sand into black glass.
At the bottom of the crater, a small hole marked Excadrill's narrow escape.
BANG!
Excadrill burst from the ground several ters away, staring at the scorched
zone with a look of pure, unadulterated fear. If it hadn't dived, it would have
been incinerated.
"Return, Excadrill."
Mason clicked the recall button. This matchup was a headache. Ninetales's
illusions and psychological warfare were systematically dismantling his
montum. He needed a different tool.
He swapped the ball for another.
"Go!!! Magnezone!!"
Zzzzt... Zzzzt...
A grey, UFO-like Pokémon floated onto the field, its magnets crackling with
electricity.

"Magnezone!! Lock-On!!"
The massive central eye of Magnezone focused on the mist. Its magnets pulsed
with a specific electromagnetic frequency, scanning for a biological signature.
In Magnezone's vision, the illusions faded into static. A red reticle locked
onto the real Ninetales hiding near the edge of the smoke.
Lock-On: Ensures the next move will hit without fail.
Against an opponent that relied on sensory deception, Lock-On was the ultimate
hard counter. No matter how many decoys Ninetales made, the machine-god would
know where its heart beat.
"Ninetales, use Baton Pass!"
"MO!!! —"
Ninetales let out a sharp cry. A flash of white light enveloped its body as it
retreated into its ball.
"Go! Electivire!!"
Kenji hurled his second Poké Ball.
BOOM!! —
The ball burst open, and a muscular, hulking yellow beast hit the floor.
"ELE-BZZZT!!!! —"
Electivire stood tall, wreathed in roiling thunder. It looked like a God of
Storms given physical form. Its black-and-red eyes locked onto Magnezone with a
fierce, crackling intensity.
