"Not good! Jolteon! Dodge it, quick!!"

Luke's expression changed. He, too, could feel the terrifying power of this move and imdiately commanded it.

But the Jolteon, having received the order, didn't move a muscle. It just glanced at the surrounding pool with a look of disgust.

The next instant, terrifying electricity erupted from Jolteon's body, enveloping it completely.

"E-ON!!!—"

Jolteon gave a fierce leap and actually charged toward Gyarados!!

It was Wild Charge!!

Kenji raised an eyebrow, a little surprised. Jolteon's action confird his suspicion.

Luke hadn't fully earned its respect.

And this was the result. At the critical mont, the Pokémon completely ignored its trainer's judgnt, fighting on its own instincts instead.

Luke's face turned pale.

"BOOOM!!!!—"

The instant the lightning t the Aqua teor, it was utterly suppressed, crushed, and slamd back down onto the platform.

A terrifying explosion rang out. Kenji, standing in the trainer's box, could feel the ground tremble slightly.

It was a testant to the move's incredible power.

A cloud of smoke and dust erupted from the water field.

When the smoke cleared, Kenji finally understood where it had co from.

The platform that had been on the water field... was gone.

Gyarados's Aqua teor had completely obliterated the platform on the water field!!!

The "smoke" was the pulverized debris from the platform.

Kenji's jaw dropped. He hadn't expected the power of this single attack to be so horrifying.

After all, this was the first ti Gyarados had truly let loose and used this move with its full power.

"Oh my goodness!! Aqua teor! Cara crew! Can we please get a slow-motion replay of that?"

The comntator, Mimi, also had her mouth wide open. It took her a long mont to recover and ask the booth for a replay.

The next second, a slow-motion replay of Gyarados's move appeared on the big screen.

"Oh my goodness! Gyarados actually combined Waterfall and Protect! That's incredible!"

It wasn't just Mimi; the entire audience gasped in amazent.

Kenji's theory knowledge wasn't bad, so he knew exactly what they were so shocked about.

There were many combination moves, but they had different levels of difficulty.

So moves were easy to execute simultaneously.

But other moves, like Protect, had an extrely high chance of failure if the user's concentration was split.

Because of this, combination moves that incorporated Protect were exceptionally difficult.

In the long history of Pokémon training, countless combo-moves had been developed, but the number of successful ones developed with Protect could be counted on one hand.

To put it bluntly, it was a matter of insufficient talent and aptitude.

"Return! Jolteon!"

On the field, Jolteon was floating motionlessly in the water, its injuries looking severe. Luke recalled it, his eyes full of worry.

"Ding! LV.34 Gyarados successfully defeated LV.40 Jolteon! Received 1600 Gold!!"

"Ding! Spoils of War triggered! Congratulations, Host, for receiving an additional reward: Secondary Hero Replicator!"

Kenji's jaw dropped again, his face a mask of shock.

What the hell? 1600 Gold?! 600 of that must have been the bonus from [Giant Slayer], which ant that for winning a battle across a major "league" (Professional vs. Elite), the base reward had jumped from 10 Gold to 1,000 Gold.

A 100-fold increase!

And what made Kenji truly ecstatic, what sent him over the moon, was that [Spoils of War] had actually dropped a "little Neeko"!!

This feeling... this was too good!

Suppressing his wild joy, Kenji refocused on the field.

Gyarados's massive body was half-subrged in the water. After two consecutive battles, its stamina was sowhat depleted, but the fighting spirit in its eyes was blazing.

His opponent, Luke, on the other hand, looked hesitant and conflicted.

It wasn't until Kenji saw Luke's final Pokémon that he understood why.

For his third Pokémon, Luke sent out a Carupt, level 37.

Kenji almost laughed out loud.

A Ground/Fire-type Pokémon... on a water field... where its side of the platform had just been destroyed by Gyarados.

Carupt was nearly two ters tall, but the mont it was sent out, it was like a clay cow falling into the river—useless.

Kenji glanced at Luke's waist. Four Pokéballs. The last one must have been his exam Pokémon, so its level was probably low.

Gyarados didn't waste any ti. A single Aqua Tail put the Carupt to sleep, making it intimately understand the despair of a 4x weakness.

Unfortunately, [Spoils of War] didn't trigger this ti.

But Kenji was more than satisfied. After just one match, he had scored 1,677 Gold and a Secondary Hero Replicator.

At this rate, it wouldn't be long before he had saved up enough "little Neekos" to get his 4-Star Larvitar.

However, after this battle, Kenji's reputation was probably going to skyrocket.

That Aqua teor move had almost certainly been recorded by students in the audience and posted online.

Outside the arena, dical staff were already on standby to receive the fainted Pokémon.

Gyarados had expended a lot of energy, so Kenji handed its Pokéball over to them. He could just pick it up later.

After causing such a huge scene, Kenji had no desire to be gawked at in the stands. He turned and ducked back into the waiting area.

This ti, he could clearly feel many gazes sizing him up.

Thankfully, most of them seed friendly. So eyes were filled with fighting spirit, others with admiration, and so, of course, were just plain curious.

Shaking off the stares, Kenji sat back down next to Goro.

Goro imdiately leaned in, his eyes shining. "Kenji, man! That Gyarados... is that the sa one from the Supernova Championship?"

After spending the last few days together, the two had beco much closer. Kenji didn't put on any airs. He just gave Goro a "look" and said, "Duh."

"No, I an, your Gyarados's strength is improving way too fast! How are you training it, Kenji? Share so of your secrets, man!" Goro asked in a sycophantic tone.
