The staff mber at his side was dumbfounded. "What are you going to do with so many Ekans?" he asked subconsciously.
Kenji spun a random lie. "Buying them to release. To build up good karma."
The staff mber's mouth twitched. He'd have to be an idiot to believe such a blatant lie.
But since Kenji wasn't talking, the staffer didn't bother to press him.
After paying, Kenji happily left with a large bag of Pokéballs.
Back at his villa, Kenji released his Ekans.
In the past few days, its level had increased again, reaching level 13.
"Hiiiisss..."
The mont Ekans was out, it slithered over and nuzzled up against Kenji.
But Kenji had no ti to play right now. With a thought, he selected the [Secondary Hero Replicator] in his system inventory.
"Ding! Use Secondary Hero Replicator on Ekans?"
The system's query sounded.
The reason Kenji had waited so long to Star Up his Ekans was fear. What if, with only one Ekans, its second ability turned out to be sothing terrible like [Slow Start]? He'd have nowhere to cry.

Kenji let out a sigh of relief, marveling at the system's power. The Replicator could even copy the Pokémon's personality, mories, and habits.
He recalled the clone and released the original variant Ekans again.
Ekans was clearly a little annoyed at being suddenly recalled, and it nudged Kenji with its head.
Kenji stroked Ekans's scales and whispered, "Ekans, let help you get stronger."
As he spoke, he released two of the Ekans infants.
As all three Ekans appeared together, the system's synthesis prompt sounded right on cue.

The next instant, a white light radiated from Ekans's body.
This was Ekans's first ti experiencing a Star Up. Its serpentine eyes were wide with surprise and curiosity, but not fear.
The other two Ekans infants also dissolved into white light, which flowed into the main Ekans.

Seeing that last notification, Kenji almost cursed out loud. He sighed. It seed the gap between S and [ULTIMATE] was no small one.
He could only hope that the final 4-Star fusion would be enough to forcibly raise Ekans's potential to the limit.
Five minutes later.
After Kenji had Stared Up all the remaining Ekans to 3-Star...
...
"Ding!! Congratulations, Host, on synthesizing a 4-Star Ekans!!"
...
"Ekans's potential has increased!! Reaching [ULTIMATE]!!!"
When he heard that final system prompt, Kenji could no longer contain his excitent.
He'd done it!!
The next mont, just as he'd expected, a milky-white light, even more intense than the Star Up glow, enveloped Ekans completely, wrapping it in a cocoon of light.
Having experienced this with Beedrill, Kenji wasn't surprised this ti. He just waited quietly, anticipating Ekans's transformation.
Ti ticked by, and Kenji's heart beat faster with apprehension.
Finally, the light cocoon began to fade, and then, with a crack, it shattered.
The light receded. Amidst a field of white, starry particles, a giant, glossy-black serpent, in the shape of a cobra, appeared before Kenji.
This is... Arbok!!
Ekans had evolved?
Kenji was stunned, his eyes locked on the Arbok, unable to look away.
A normal Arbok has a small, rounded head. But his Arbok's head was no longer round. Instead, it had several sharp, horn-like protrusions, and its eyes were large and deep, not the usual inverted triangles.
A dragon's head!!!
Kenji's breath hitched. At this mont, Arbok's head looked less like a snake's... and more like that of a dragon from National Region mythology!!!!
