Back when they had done a video call confrontation in Chen Mo's livestream, Ah Hui had once ntioned sothing to Chen Mo—one of his friends had, by pure chance, discovered a bird egg with a very unusual appearance.
That "friend" was none other than the flat-headed young man Haoran, who was now lying on the bed.
And the backpack that had been used to carry that bird egg back then—if Ah Hui rembered correctly—was the very sa backpack in front of him now.
"No… no way… I clearly rember we made him return the egg. He really did. I saw it with my own eyes…"
The backpack trembled once again.
Ah Hui's mind went completely blank.
Footsteps sounded from the doorway, followed by a crisp, pleasant voice.
"Brother Ah Hui, the hangover soup is almost ready…"
Xiao Cai ca up to the second floor, only to find Ah Hui still standing in the flat-headed youth's room, head lowered, both hands tightly gripping a travel backpack.
Just as she was feeling puzzled, Ah Hui's low voice slowly reached her ears.
"Sorry, Xiao Cai. I want to be alone for a bit."
Before she could say anything, Ah Hui had already turned around and left without looking back, heading straight into another bedroom.
This was the first ti Xiao Cai had ever seen Ah Hui behave so abnormally. Her pretty brows knit together, her face filled with confusion and worry.
"…What happened?"
After a long mont, she turned her head and looked back at the flat-headed youth, still sleeping soundly on the bed.
...
Even though he had already guessed the truth, the mont Ah Hui actually opened the backpack and saw the green, insect-shaped spirit lying inside, his emotions still collapsed entirely.
"Wu… wa…"
As light stread in through the opening of the unzipped backpack, the green insect spirit—experiencing light for the first ti—let out a faint cry.
Since the mont it was born, it had been trapped in a pitch-black space. This was the first ti it had ever seen light from the outside world.
It was dazzling—painfully bright.
Beyond the light, it also saw a tall human silhouette.
Living creatures instinctively regard the first being they see after birth as family, and spirits were no exception.
The green Caterpie instinctively began crawling toward the figure standing in the light.
But its extrely weak body made even this short distance unbearably difficult.
At that mont, a pair of trembling hands gently lifted it up, moving with the utmost care, slowly bringing it into the brightness.
Almost by instinct, it rubbed its frail body affectionately against those gentle palms.
And it was at that mont that it heard the trembling voice coming from above.
"I'm sorry… I'm really sorry…"
It didn't understand what those words ant, but it could clearly feel the emotions behind them—so full of sorrow and pain.
"Wu… wa…"
"Sorry, Caterpie. Did I scare you?"
"Wu… wa…"
Ah Hui looked at the Caterpie lying in his arms and softly tried to soothe it.
But even soone like him, who didn't know much about spirits, could tell that Caterpie's condition was terrible—utterly terrible. It looked as though it was barely clinging to life.
And right then—
The bedroom door was pushed open, and a familiar, lazy voice drifted in from outside.
"Ah Hui~ what's wrong with you?"
More often than not, Ah Hui was soone whose emotions flared easily—just like the last ti he'd publicly confronted Chen Mo in the livestream, losing control the mont his emotions surged.
And this ti was no exception.
Even though the person standing before him was practically one of his best friends.
He slowly set Caterpie down, his voice gentle.
"Wait for a mont."
Then, in three quick strides, he crossed the room at astonishing speed and arrived right in front of the flat-headed youth.
"Why didn't you put that egg back?"
Having been forcibly woken up by Xiao Cai, the flat-headed youth was still half drunk, half awake, his head spinning. He hadn't noticed Ah Hui's abnormal state at all.
"Egg… wh—what egg?"
"What egg?! The Butterfree's egg, of course! The one you personally took out of their nest during the camping trip, the one we told you to put back—that bird egg!!!"
Ah Hui grabbed the flat-headed youth by the collar. He had already entered a state of pure rage.
Finally.
Staring into Ah Hui's bloodshot eyes, the flat-headed youth truly woke up.
"Egg…"
But before he could say anything else, his gaze was drawn to the Caterpie lying on the bedside table.
The sight of that clearly abnormal insect made his pupils shrink violently.
A term surfaced in his mind.
"M-monster… magical beast!"
"Heh. Forgot already? It was born from the egg you brought back."
Hearing Ah Hui's words, the flat-headed youth finally rembered. He muttered,
"I… I rember now. I brought it back and left it in my backpack… How did this happen…"
His face changed drastically.
He had indeed brought the egg back, but if Ah Hui hadn't brought it up now, he would have long forgotten about it.
"A magical beast… and an infant at that. Ah Hui, what should we do? This has to be the butterfly demons' child. Should we maybe take the chance to—"
"Heh heh. And what do you want to do? Kill it? Or call the Magical Beast Research and Counterasures Bureau to have them take it away?"
Ah Hui sneered coldly.
"No, I just—"
Before he could finish, Ah Hui cut him off.
"Do you know why Butterfree attacked us?"
"What Butterfree…"
"I'm talking about those butterfly demons! Do you know why they attacked us?!"
Ah Hui's tone was seething with rage.
To be honest, in the ten years they'd known each other, the flat-headed youth had seen Ah Hui lose his temper before—but this was the first ti he had ever seen Ah Hui this furious.
Butterfree… those butterfly demons…
He vaguely sensed that sothing significant must have happened to Ah Hui.
"I… I don't know…"
The flat-headed youth shook his head, his voice growing weaker and weaker.
But as Ah Hui looked at his face, the anger in his heart only continued to swell.
"At first, when Brother Mo explained it, I also thought Butterfree attacked us just because we destroyed the flower fields they depended on to survive."
"But now it's clear—that was only part of the reason. The most important reason is that you took away their unborn child!"
"We clearly told you to put the egg back! Why the hell did you secretly bring it ho anyway?! Are you a fucking idiot?!"
"Honestly, the fact that Butterfree didn't kill us outright just proves how kind-hearted they are."
"And it's all because of you that Ruiming and the others are still lying in the hospital right now."
"Do you know that? If this were the old days, their entire lives would've been ruined because of your actions—completely ruined, do you understand?!"
At this point, nearly all the characters appearing can be considered first-generation Trainers.
