"Splash…"
Torrential rain poured down from the sky.
The thick smoke covering the Eastside Ruins was slowly washed away, revealing the scene beneath it.
A massive crater lay in the middle of the ruins.
At the bottom of the crater, a boy in tattered clothes knelt on the ground, holding a black Greninja in his arms.
It was motionless.
Not a trace of life remained in its body.
Drip… drip…
Rain poured rcilessly onto both the boy and Greninja.
Their clothes and hair were completely soaked.
It was Aaron and Frog Boss.
Aaron's wet bangs covered his eyes, hiding his expression. He only held Frog Boss tightly, his hands trembling slightly as he spoke in a hoarse voice.
"Frog Boss… don't fall asleep."
"The battle's not over yet…"
Aaron's eyes were bloodshot. He slowly reached out and placed his hand beneath Greninja's nose.
He could not feel even the faintest trace of breathing.
Aaron's entire body trembled violently.
His voice shook uncontrollably.
"F-Frog Boss… don't…"
"Don't scare like this…"
"Co on… get up."
"I'll take you to play gas, okay?"
Aaron's body trembled harder and harder as a tear slid down his cheek.
This was the first ti Aaron had cried since coming to this world.
Everything had gone too smoothly for him.
He had beco too used to victory.
So used to it that he had nearly forgotten what true grief felt like.
This sudden blow felt like a knife stabbing straight through his heart.
The pain was unbearable.
He wanted to scream.
He wanted to vent everything inside him.
But his throat felt completely locked shut.
…
On the other side, Harker saw Aaron kneeling in the crater in such a miserable state and imdiately burst into arrogant laughter.
"Hahahaha…"
"Aaron… so you finally ended up like this too!?"
"But your Pokémon really was stupid enough to die for you!?"
"What a complete idiot…"
A mocking sneer spread across Harker's face as he looked at Greninja.
"You deserved to die."
"Harker!!"
"I'm going to kill you…"
Aaron's eyes turned blood-red, his gaze shaking with grief and murderous rage.
He gritted his teeth and spoke in a low, trembling voice.
"Hahaha…"
"You think trash like you can kill !?"
"Today, I'm taking your worthless life!"
Harker laughed wildly and sneered at Aaron.
"Hurry up and kill him!!"
Then he roared toward the assassin hidden in the shadows.
"Ksssh…"
The Gengar floating in the air let out a low growl.
Ghost energy rapidly gathered around its body, releasing a terrifying glow.
Aaron tightly gripped Greninja's hand.
Drops tears slowly fell onto Greninja's face.
Drip… drip…
"Greninja!!"
"Get up!!"
Aaron hugged Greninja tightly and let out a heart-wrenching roar.
Hum—
At that mont, a brilliant white light suddenly shone from Aaron's body.
Imdiately afterward, white light began shining from Greninja's body as well.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
A powerful heartbeat slowly echoed through the rain like the beating of a war drum.
Hum—
The white light surrounding Aaron and Greninja intertwined together.
A dazzling sphere of light blood from deep within the crater, illuminating the dark clouds above the entire Eastside Ruins.
"What… what is that light!?"
"Hurry up and attack!!"
"What the hell are you waiting for, Gengar!?"
"Attack already!"
A deep sense of unease rose in Harker's heart when he saw the astonishing white light. He imdiately roared toward the assassin hidden in the darkness.
"Ksssh!"
Gengar seed to receive the order. A cold light flashed through its blood-red eyes.
A massive Shadow Ball instantly ford in front of Gengar's mouth.
It was over two ters wide.
Clearly, it intended to kill Aaron in a single strike.
"KSSSH!"
Gengar roared furiously as the enormous Shadow Ball blasted downward toward the glowing crater with terrifying force.
The pressure alone shattered the surrounding ground.
Black lightning flickered wildly through the air.
Crackle!
The Shadow Ball resembled a terrifying black hole.
Broken stones and dust rose into the air, dragged toward the attack by its overwhelming pull.
"Hahahaha…"
"Die, trash!"
"Worthless piece of garbage… in your next life, rember not to stick your nose where it doesn't belong!"
"What genius?"
"Once you're dead, you're nothing but trash!"
"Who would ever stand up for a dead man!?"
Harker laughed hysterically and roared at Aaron.
It seed Harker still had enough sense to understand one simple truth.
Once Aaron was dead, no one could bring him back.
But he had underestimated Aaron's influence.
If anything happened to Aaron, the entire nation of Hualis would be shaken.
The fall of a Trainer with limitless potential could shake the very future of Hualis.
If the Guardians could not find the next successor, then Hualis could truly fall into ruin.
Harker had no idea how important the person before him truly was to Hualis.
…
Hum—
At that mont, the white light within the deep crater suddenly erupted with dazzling radiance.
Holy Light illuminated the entire Eastside Ruins and lit up the sky above.
It pierced through the dense dark clouds.
And dispersed them.
The rain stopped.
The thunder stopped.
The wind stopped.
At that mont, even ti itself seed to freeze.
