"How is that possible?"
Across the field, Reggie noticed Ogerpon's reaction.
Why didn't Staraptor's Intimidate make her flinch?
But now wasn't the ti to be surprised.
"Staraptor, use Brave Bird!"
Reggie didn't know Ogerpon's exact typing, but her green coloration and leaf-like decorations clearly suggested a Grass-type Pokémon.
"Skreee~~"
Staraptor suddenly accelerated. Blue energy—like blazing flas—wrapped around its body, forming a cloak of power.
Flying-type against Grass-type.
And opening with a Flying-type ultimate move.
Reggie's intention was obvious.
He wanted to seize montum right from the start.
"Ivy Cudgel. One-shot it."
Sora's command was incredibly simple—almost blunt.
"Poné!"
But Ogerpon loved this kind of straightforward, forceful fighting style.
A green Ivy Cudgel ford in her hands as she stood her ground, facing the figure diving from the sky, wreathed in blue light.
"BOOM!"
Lightning tore through the air—Staraptor descending.
Yet Ogerpon moved even faster.
She didn't deflect.
Instead, at the very instant Staraptor closed in, she swung downward with crushing force.
The next mont, the earth shattered.
A deafening explosion echoed as thick smoke billowed from the collision point.
"Staraptor!!"
Reggie cried out.
He had imagined many outcos—but Ogerpon standing still and taking the hit head-on was completely beyond his expectations.
"How can this be?!"
As the smoke cleared, the familiar figure lay collapsed on the ground.
Ogerpon stood untouched—her cloak unruffled, not even a thread out of place.
Reggie stared in disbelief.
This had to be a joke.
Staraptor had used Brave Bird—a high-speed, full-power attack.
Yet Ogerpon had blocked it outright…
without even taking a single step back.
Given the difference in body size, the scene felt like watching soone stop a speeding car with their bare hands.
The visual impact was overwhelming.
"Staraptor… unable to battle."
Serving as the only third party present, Shinji acted as the temporary referee.
His voice trembled slightly—he, too, couldn't comprehend what he had just witnessed.
Lost.
His brother's Staraptor had gone down just like that.
One strike.
Only one strike—and it was finished.
What kind of gap in strength could produce such a result?
"Return, Staraptor."
"You did well."
Reggie frowned as he recalled his Pokémon.
Looking back at Ogerpon, his confusion only deepened.
Green—definitely Grass-type.
But she blocked Brave Bird head-on.
Even though she used Ivy Cudgel to intercept the attack, the move still counted as a type matchup.
Flying-type had double effectiveness against Grass-type.
Yet Ogerpon showed no sign of injury.
What Reggie didn't realize was that sending out Staraptor—whose Intimidate lowered opponent stats—had been a mistake.
In Teal Mask form, Ogerpon lacked extra type boosts, but possessed the Defiant Ability, which allowed her to grow stronger rapidly.
Faced with Intimidate, instead of having her stats lowered, her Attack had increased by 100%.
Of course, even without that boost…
At Level 77, Ogerpon could still have stopped Staraptor with a single swing.
Intimidate should reduce her Attack.
And with double-type advantage from Brave Bird…
Compared to Sora's calm confidence, Reggie now felt genuinely lost.
His opening probe had yielded no useful information—only the loss of a key fighter.
He couldn't determine Ogerpon's true typing, her Ability, or the function of that ornate mask.
Everything felt like a dense fog surrounding him.
This was the first ti in his life he had faced such a battle.
But—
"Mr. Sora really is strong."
"Still, I won't give up."
This was only the beginning.
One loss didn't an defeat.
Next ti, he would force Sora to reveal his full strength.
"Go—Roserade!"
Roserade—the final evolution of Budew—resembled a masked dancer holding twin bouquets.
Grass and Poison dual-type, huh?
The mont he saw the Pokémon, Sora understood Reggie's plan.
Grass-type moves would deal only one-quarter damage to Roserade.
A solid strategy.
Unfortunately… you're facing Ogerpon.
A faint smile curled at the corner of Sora's lips.
"Ogerpon, switch to the Hearthfla Mask."
"Poné!"
Without hesitation, Ogerpon removed the Teal Mask and slipped it into her sleeve.
How such a large mask could fit into such a small sleeve defied logic.
But Pokémon were mysterious creatures—no need to overthink it.
"Poné-ao~~"
In the blink of an eye, she pulled out a crimson mask from her sleeve and placed it over her face.
At that very mont, her form began to change.
Green turned to blazing red—like a cloak woven from living flas.
Combined with the fierce expression of the Hearthfla Mask, Ogerpon's entire aura transford dramatically.
"Her appearance changed!!"
The sight left both brothers staring wide-eyed.
What just happened?
She switched masks—and beca a completely different form.
I can't make sense of this Pokémon at all.
Reggie had too many questions.
Why could she change equipnt mid-battle?
Why did her appearance shift so drastically?
It was as if she had transford from a Grass-type into a Fire-type.
"A Fire-type?"
"No way…"
Reggie didn't want to consider that possibility.
A Pokémon capable of changing types—did such a thing really exist?
"Ivy Cudgel."
Before he could think further, Sora's command rang out.
"Not good!"
Reggie imdiately ordered Roserade to retreat.
"Use Magical Leaf!"
Other details were uncertain.
But one thing was obvious—Ogerpon excelled at close combat.
That move called Ivy Cudgel possessed terrifying power.
"Roserade!"
Receiving the command, Roserade leapt backward while forming glowing leaves in its hands, launching them forward in a storm toward the charging Ogerpon.
But the mont the Grass-type energy t the incoming Ivy Cudgel—
It ignited.
The club that had once been green was now wrapped in roaring flas.
