Underwater to the east.
Kazuya had no idea how far he had swum. In any case, he had already arrived in an entirely unfamiliar stretch of sea.
Over the past two and a half years, he had frequently dove into the ocean depths to conduct explorations and rigorous training. He was already deeply familiar with the sea closest to the main continent, so he intended to venture a bit further out this ti to scout around.
An ocean environnt like this brought a relatively strong sense of security to Kazuya. The reasons were nurous, and there was no need to detail them one by one.
The distribution of Pokémon species in the sea was exceptionally complex. Tentacruel, Dewgong, Cloyster, Starmie, Gyarados... along his journey, he could spot virtually every type of Water-type Pokémon. It was practically the All Blue of the Pokémon world. Furthermore, Kazuya could even spot so creatures that simply didn't exist during the League Era. He couldn't even determine whether those organisms were Pokémon or just ordinary, non-magical animals.
"Ahoo~"
"Hmm?"
Hearing the sound echoing near his ears, Kazuya froze for a mont, turning his head toward the direction the voice traveled from. There weren't any particularly noteworthy Pokémon within sight. But... this specific cry felt incredibly familiar.
"An auditory hallucination?" Kazuya frowned.
He didn't think it was. That voice just now felt like a localized signal transmitted to him by the ocean itself.
"Ahoo~"
"Oh?" Kazuya's eyes lit up. Because he had deliberately focused his hearing this ti, he was absolutely certain the sound existed.
"Over this way, huh." Kazuya locked his gaze onto a certain direction, then beat his wings to "swim" through the water.
After swimming a distance of several kiloters, Kazuya noticed a massive shadow looming beneath the surface ahead. Drawing closer, he realized with amazent that the colossal entity blocking his path was actually a relatively small island.
This was Kazuya's very first ti encountering land outside the main continent. Even though it rely appeared to be a minor island of modest proportions, he was still filled with profound anticipation, highly curious about what kind of Pokémon lived on it.
Kazuya didn't rush to make landfall; instead, he circled the periter of the island underwater. Unsurprisingly, the crying sound he had caught earlier while subrged originated from this very island.
After swimming a full lap around it, Kazuya determined that the scale of this island was roughly comparable to Four Island. It was genuinely exceptionally small—the type that wouldn't necessarily even be found on a world map. It was likely a "continental fragnt" shivered off during so ancient earthquake, gradually drifting away from the main continent through oceanic movents to form an isolated environnt completely cut off from the rest of the world.
Just as Kazuya prepared to land, the mont he popped his head above the sea surface, his eyes locked right onto an adorable Pokémon.
"No wonder that cry felt so familiar. It turns out it was my own voice from the past..." Beholding the little guy before him, Kazuya instantly understood what that "ahoo" sound was all about.
"w?"
The one appearing before Kazuya was a Dratini. That's right, the exact species of Kazuya's second life. And the ultimate stage of that second life—the Dragonite stage—possessed a dopey, endearing cry that sounded exactly like Ahoo~ Ahoo~. The familiar sound he caught underwater was undoubtedly unleashed by a Dragonite residing on this island.
The Dratini blinked its large, watery eyes. Upon seeing Kazuya, it displayed zero fear and didn't try to flee. Instead, its eyes swimming with pure curiosity, it coiled its sleek body right around Kazuya's torso.
Kazuya dragged himself out of the seawater. Staring eye-to-eye with the Dratini wrapped around his neck, he was montarily struck with a bout of bewildernt. Why isn't this little brat afraid of at all?
"w?" The Dratini nudged Kazuya with its large, white snout, sniffing the scent radiating from his body.
"A newborn calf really fears no tiger. You're hanging around the shore like this, aren't you afraid of getting snatched away by the predatory Pokémon beneath the waves?" Kazuya allowed the Dratini to slide all over his neck and head while he walked with steady strides into the interior of the island.
He could fly, but taking flight would absolutely cause him to be noticed by the island's inhabitants right off the bat. Judging by the cry he caught underwater earlier, there were absolutely Dragonites on this island. It was highly probable that the Alpha of this island was a Dragonite.
As for an Overlord? The proportions of this island were simply too ager to birth an Overlord—unless the surrounding sea territory was factored into its jurisdiction.
Whether it was an Alpha or an Overlord, the Dragonite species warranted an extra layer of caution from Kazuya, demanding he maintain a low profile. If he directly collided head-on with a Champion-level Dragonite, things would turn exceptionally ugly. A Dragonite also possessed Extre Speed, and with its base stat advantages crushing his own, he might not necessarily win a contest of pure speed. He couldn't even shake it off by diving into the sea; the greatest advantage of the Dragonite line lay in their flawless mastery over the sky, the earth, and the ocean—unlike Kazuya, who relied on a natural cheat just to move underwater.
"w?" The Dratini bumped Kazuya with its tiny head.
"I didn't co from the seabed. I ca from the opposite side of the ocean, where a massive continent lies."
"w?"
"My na is Kazuya. My species is called Charizard, and you are a Dratini."
"w..."
Even though it was their very first encounter during such a perilous and treacherous era, the two creatures of entirely different species were peacefully conversing with one another. It could be counted as a miraculous spectacle.
Guided by the Dratini, Kazuya moved toward the center of the island. It had to be said that the environnt of this small island was remarkably excellent. The outermost layer was a ring of sandy beach, while slightly further inland was a dense forest. The sound of rushing river water echoed from afar, indicating that a freshwater stream cleaved through the forest.
Perhaps their voices were a bit too loud, because as they walked through the forest, two Pokémon suddenly peeked their heads out from the tree canopy nearby. Although Kazuya had already detected their presence in advance through his Aura, he was still montarily startled.
The ones appearing before him were two Dragonair whose body lengths reached a staggering 12 ters. A Dragonair during the League Era typically asured around 4 ters long, so in the Ancient Era, they reached an exaggerated length of 12 ters, looking larger than many Alpha Pokémon. Within this prival forest, the visual impact delivered by these two "giant serpents" was exceptionally dramatic.
"As expected, a Dragonite clan resides on this island," Kazuya grinned, his expression turning thoroughly joyful. Discovering a brand-new Dragon Egg Group clan brought him a profound sense of harvest.
"Iny~"
"Iny~"
The two Dragonair let out lodic cries one after the other. This sound dragged up ancient mories from over two hundred years ago. Back when he had just evolved into a Dragonair, he had also been an absolute squeaker.
"Hello there~" Kazuya raised a claw and waved, offering a casual greeting.
His mood was excellent. The attitude of these Dragonair was incredibly friendly, devoid of even a shred of hostility; compared to the Dratini, they rely displayed a sliver of caution, and a highly limited amount at that.
The Dratini uttered a casual phrase, and the two Dragonair instantly discarded their wariness toward Kazuya, even enthusiastically leading the way to invite him to their ho as a guest.
"Are there no other Pokémon on this island besides your clan?"
"Dragon?" Seeing the confusion swimming in the Dragonair's eyes, Kazuya felt a bit of a headache coming on.
Thus, he spent several minutes explaining the definition of a "Pokémon" to the Dragonair, explicitly detailing the differences between a Pokémon and an ordinary, non-magical animal. After grasping the distinction, the Dragonair and Dratini shook their heads simultaneously.
Beholding this, Kazuya couldn't help but form a definitive label for this island in his heart. This was an island akin to a [Utopia hidden from the world]. There were absolutely no Pokémon on this island besides the Dragonite line, with at most so ordinary flora and fauna that posed zero threat to their survival.
No wonder these Dragonair and Dratini possessed such atrocious safety awareness. If they didn't actively dive into the sea, they had likely never left this island since birth, let alone witnessed other species of Pokémon.
No wonder the Dratini was so intensely curious about ... Kazuya muttered silently.
For such a place to actually exist during the brutal Ancient Era was truly mind-boggling. Simultaneously, he grew even more curious about the full scope of this Dragonite clan. The clan had lived here for an unknown number of years; judging by the Dragonair and Dratini's reactions and their physical developnt, this tiline couldn't be lower than twenty or thirty years.
Furthermore, one had to factor in that since this island existed in a state of absolute peace, the Dragonite clan had virtually never engaged in any life-or-death struggles. A complete lack of conflict was a blessing, but also a curse. The blessing was that they could live safely and happily, only needing to consider reproduction and thriving. The curse was that their growth progression was incredibly sluggish; their only avenue for leveling up was almost entirely limited to "natural maturation."
For a Dratini to naturally mature and evolve into a Dragonair required an unknown ocean of ti. Therefore, twenty or thirty years was a highly conservative guess. Over such a long period, the scale of this Dragonite clan had to be quite imnse.
Harboring this profound expectation, Kazuya followed the two Dragonair all the way into the island's heartland. He didn't harbor even a shred of suspicion that the two Dragonair might be leading him into a trap; that thought was completely redundant. Most Pokémon didn't possess that many devious sches, and the Dragonite line belonged to a species that detested playing underhanded tricks on others.
More importantly, Kazuya possessed Aura Power. In this world, the number of humans who could successfully deceive him was infinitesimally small. His few experiences of being outsmarted involved exceptionally unique masterminds—like Petrel, the Team Rocket Executive and disguise master who could even trick his own heart, or his own disciple, Kasim, who orchestrated an ambush with over a dozen psychics and possessed flawless intel on Kazuya. If humans required highly specific criteria to trick him, ordinary Dragonair didn't stand a chance.
When half an hour passed, Kazuya followed the Dragonair at a leisurely pace into the island's heartland—a massive valley nestled right at the center of the island—and the expectations in his heart were fully validated.
Everywhere his eyes could see, the valley was filled with blue "serpents" of all sizes. The combined number of Dragonair and Dratini reached at least forty or fifty.
Regrettably, the number of Dragonites was not large—one could even say it was a bit sparse. It looked to be only about eight or nine. However, Kazuya believed that in other parts of the island, there had to be mbers of the Dragonite line who hadn't returned yet.
On the whole, the strength of this Dragonite clan was significantly weaker than he had imagined. A survival environnt completely stripped of external pressure caused the Dragonite clan's pace of life to be incredibly relaxed. Lacking internal competition, their individual strength naturally couldn't beco overwhelming. Kazuya estimated that this island likely didn't even hold an Elite Four-level Dragonite.
But fortunately, the population of the Dragonite clan was undeniably massive. Just the ones visible before him numbered over fifty. Once the mbers outside returned, this count couldn't possibly fall below eighty.
This number was already considered staggeringly high. Even the Arcanine clan or the volcano Charizard clan might not necessarily boast a population of this scale.
