Now reading: Chapter 298 298: The Cave Behind the Waterfall from Pokemon: Bounty Hunter, a Action novel by Takeiteasy.

By the underground river, the combination of Ampharos and Serperior perford even better against the Goldeen clan than the other side.

That was simply due to typing — Grass and Electric types naturally hold a visible advantage against Water-type Pokémon.

Since they weren't fighting inside the opponent's main territory, Serperior and Ampharos completely overwheld their foes.

Grass-type energy wrapped around Serperior's leaves and vines, and every strike it made knocked a Pokémon unconscious and floating to the surface.

Its entire body seed to bloom with vitality. A soft green glow illuminated this deep subterranean cavern, creating a vibrant pocket of life. The fresh scent of grass filled the air.

Empowered by Serperior's overwhelmingly strong pure Grass-type aura, the effects of Grassy Terrain displayed unparalleled recovery and support capabilities.

Ampharos, though not Grass-type and thus unable to enjoy the attack boost, still benefited fully from the terrain's healing properties.

With Grassy Terrain helping to sustain it, bolts of bright yellow electricity continued to rain into the river.

As numbing currents surged through the water, countless Magikarp and Goldeen floated to the surface.

The powerful electricity was practically a real-life "fish fryer," blasting Water-type Pokémon right out of the riverbed.

"Amphaa!"

Releasing so much electricity felt incredible for Ampharos — it even fired off a big, high-power Thunder.

Thankfully, it rembered Silas's warning from earlier.

If you jump down into the river to use Thunder, you'll have to climb back up yourself.

The mont the stiff recoil of Thunder ended, Ampharos glanced guiltily at Silas behind it.

Seeing that Silas didn't seem upset about it using Thunder, Ampharos gradually relaxed.

Even so, it didn't dare ss around anymore and obediently switched to Thunderbolt for sustained output.

In this situation, the clan leader — a Seaking a Pokémon of Pesudo Elite-level strength just below Elite-level was absolutely furious.

Ever since its strength had advanced, it had been an almost unbeatable existence in the area. It had never suffered this level of humiliation.

But it was also at a complete loss as to what to do.

Its old rival, Golbat, never entered the water, and Golbat's aerial attacks couldn't reach deep underwater. So for years, the two species had minded their own business — their territories and resources didn't overlap.

But now these two Pokémon attacking continuously were entirely different. If this continued, the Seaking leader felt like its entire family line might go extinct.

It fired Water Gun after Water Gun, even launching full-power Hydro Pumps at Ampharos.

To protect its own clan, it had made the correct judgnt: Ampharos posed a much greater threat than Serperior.

But to its despair, every attack was effortlessly blocked by the layered defenses Serperior erected.

Even when Serperior took hits, Grassy Terrain healed the damage almost imdiately.

That left Ampharos free to unleash electricity with total abandon.

The Slowpoke clan resting on the rocks by the water didn't fare any better — they still had their tails dipped in the river fishing, completely unaware a battle had even begun.

"Speaking of which… looks like it's been long enough since we last tasted Slowpoke Tails, huh?"

Silas rubbed his chin as he watched both battlefield fronts dominate their opponents.

"Slurrp—"

At the ntion of Slowpoke Tails, Blaziken beside him imdiately drooled.

It had been a long ti since the last al of Slowpoke Tails, but that delicious flavor lingered in mory.

"Eight of them… We'll probably even have leftovers for next ti."

Silas grinned at his gluttonous partner.

Blaziken didn't feel embarrassed at all. Good food should always be eaten plentifully.

That was probably why Farfetch'd was nearly extinct.

Thankfully, wild Slowpoke Tails naturally fall off on their own; otherwise, they and Farfetch'd would share the sa fate.

As the chaos of battle gradually subsided and wild Pokémon numbers thinned, both fronts were decisively won.

Once Gigalith's Rock Slide and Serperior's Vine Whip knocked out the Golbat and Seaking, the remaining Pokémon scattered and fled.

The cave soon fell silent again.

Silas stretched lazily. Now ca the part he enjoyed most — gathering loot.

"Let's get to work."

He pulled out a small bag and began tossing Poké Balls one after another.

Battling was the Pokémon's job. Cleanup afterward was his responsibility.

Blaziken stayed by his side, guarding him diligently.

The remaining Pokémon gathered around Serperior to enjoy Grassy Terrain's healing.

"Gigalith, check whether there are any hidden spots nearby, or anything giving off energy signals."

Silas's voice echoed in the cave.

In terrain this complex, there were usually many undiscovered pockets and often, rare materials grew there.

"Gigalith!"

Exceptionally gifted at sensing energy, Gigalith had long been used to this task. With a low rumble, it faithfully got to work.

There weren't too many fainted wild Pokémon in the cave — excluding the nurous Magikarp, there were only about twenty or so.

With his strong physique, Silas quickly tossed Poké Balls one after another and finished the initial cleanup.

He had to admit — repeatedly throwing Poké Balls chanically was surprisingly tiring.

Silas had even wondered about this when watching the ani in his previous life.

Think about Ash throwing Poké Balls: no matter the distance, he could land a perfect hit on fainted Pokémon almost every ti.

Even though the targets weren't moving, the difficulty was still high.

Yet not just Ash — everyone in the Pokémon world acted like this was standard.

It was ridiculous.

But now, his confusion was gone.

People in the Pokémon world could throw Poké Balls with near-perfect accuracy for two reasons:

1. Superior physical ability — strength, eyesight, and muscle control made precise throws easy.

2. Poké Ball throwing is a mandatory curriculum during the League's free education phase.

If you don't pass, you don't advance — no exceptions.

Even soone like Ash, whose grades were bottom-tier academically, was still guaranteed competence in this area.

And honestly, Ash's "bottom-tier" was only in theory.

Silas knew well: in terms of raw physical ability, even after Gary trained under his own teacher, he still got physically overwheld by Ash.

Thankfully, future Gary's brain worked well enough that he didn't end up at a disadvantage.

"Blaziken, I'll leave the Slowpoke to you. Just take the tails and chase them off."

Now that cleanup was over, Silas addressed his eager partner.

"Blaze!"

Blaziken's eyes glead in the dark.

In a flash, it appeared near the Slowpoke group.

It inhaled deeply.

Then a roaring pillar of fire burst forth.

Splash splash splash—

Slowpoke fell into the water one after another.

The massive gap in strength between both sides made type advantages and resistances almost aningless.

From Silas's perspective, even by the ti they fell into the water having lost their ability to battle, most of the Slowpoke still hadn't reacted.

The only reason they didn't scream was because they fainted before their brains had ti to register the pain.

Silas looked helplessly at Blaziken, who happily returned with seven or eight freshly-dropped Slowpoke Tails in its arms.

Once again, he was reminded of how slow-witted Slowpoke were.

The pink Pokémon floated down the underground river, drifting toward so unknown branch inside the cave system.

Given their personality, they would probably wake up later with absolutely no idea how they were knocked out.

"We'll eat them when we head out for dinner."

Silas stored the Slowpoke Tails in his backpack as he spoke to the teary-eyed Blaziken.

Other than being delicious, Slowpoke Tails also contained quite a bit of energy. Eating them now would only make his Pokémon gain unnecessary fat—Silas definitely didn't want all his partners walking around with big round stomachs.

"Blaaaaz…"

Blaziken sighed. Of course it wouldn't be that easy. Its Trainer had beco stricter and stricter about snacks.

It missed the old days—back when Togekiss and Ampharos were still unevolved baby Pokémon.

Convincing those two little ones to sneak snacks for it had been such a wonderful ti.

"Gigalith, did you find anything?"

Silas ignored Blaziken's lanting and turned to Gigalith—the calst and most dependable mber of the team.

"Gigalith."

To Silas's delight, Gigalith slowly nodded.

"Looks like our luck is pretty good today."

Silas smiled and casually stroked Togekiss's head as it floated down beside him.

"Toge~"

The experienced, comfortable petting made Togekiss squint its eyes in bliss.

As the rocks on Gigalith's body rotated and clicked, Silas followed the direction it indicated toward a shimring curtain of white a waterfall not far away.

"You an… behind that waterfall?"

Silas raised his eyebrows.

Good grief… was this the Water Curtain Cave from Journey to the West?

Just kidding. There probably wouldn't be a monkey inside this one.

Still, the hidden location surprised him.

Thinking about it again, it also made sense.

If such a spot weren't extrely well concealed, there was no way Silas would be the one to stumble upon it.

"So the Water-type energy is interfering with your senses, and you're not sure what exactly is behind it?"

Gigalith's further description made Silas rub his chin thoughtfully.

His gaze drifted toward Blaziken, who was still pondering life.

"Blaaaz."

Feeling Silas's stare, Blaziken quietly shook its head—indicating no living Pokémon were behind the waterfall.

Silas imdiately felt relieved.

"Alright, you two go back for now. You definitely won't like what's behind a waterfall."

Silas said this as he pulled out two Luxury Balls.

Blaziken and Gigalith pressed their buttons almost simultaneously and returned to their "hos."

As Fire-type and Rock-type Pokémon, they didn't want to be outside anymore and the idea of going behind a waterfall was even worse.

Silas took the remaining three Pokémon and soon arrived at a branch of the massive underground waterfall.

Rumble—!!

The roaring water thundered down, and the spray instantly drenched Silas from head to toe.

Looking at the magnificent sight, Silas felt a bit nostalgic.

In his previous life, he had been a hobody who never traveled.

In this life, he had witnessed all sorts of breathtaking scenery with his own eyes.

A faint smile moved across his lips.

In his last life, who could have imagined an individual standing against the forces of nature?

"Togekiss—Air Slash!

Ampharos—Magnetic Flux!

Serperior—Vine Whip!"

Three commands rang out, and the three Pokémon behind him simultaneously unleashed their moves.
