Silas couldn't help but think he truly was a great person.
The Youngster, looking completely dejected, recalled his fainted Geodude into its Poké Ball. Without saying a word, he walked up to Silas, placed the broken fossil on the ground, then turned and ran off.
"Don't wander into the forest if you don't have to. It's not a place for fun," Silas called out as a reminder, though he wasn't sure if the kid actually heard him.
Every year, plenty of rookies ventured into Viridian Forest, only to end up losing their lives.
At the start of their journey, most trainers believed their Pokémon were the strongest. They charged in without any real understanding of their opponents' strength just like that Youngster had done.
"Alright, Combusken, back to training."
Silas didn't dwell on the encounter. It was just a minor interruption during training. This area was already quite remote, so running into soone here was rare.
He instructed Pidgeot to keep an eye on the surroundings from above while it trained, but he didn't make any additional adjustnts.
The earlier situation had been an exception normally, he always remained on high alert.
As Combusken and Pidgeot trained diligently, Silas kept himself busy as well.
After preparing nutritional supplents for his Pokémon, he settled down to study and review various subjects.
Nothing in this world ca for free.
His current skills and strength weren't solely due to Zero's help.
Without his years of relentless studying, Zero wouldn't have been able to provide him with such valuable information.
Once training concluded, instead of resting as usual, Silas made his way to Pewter Gym.
He needed to gather the necessary materials for his third Pokémon.
And why Pewter Gym?
Because buying materials there ca with a 50% discount.
That ant saving millions of Pokédollars—of course, he had to take advantage of that.
After preparing everything, he returned to his room.
He checked the ti. It had been fourteen hours since the incubation process began.
The little one should be hatching soon normally, it would take about fifteen hours.
Silas set up the incubator securely on his desk and resud studying while he waited.
At so point, a soft white glow began radiating from the incubator.
Silas calmly put down his laptop.
This scene was nothing new to him—he had assisted in many Pokémon hatchings before.
With practiced efficiency, he quickly tidied up, ensuring that all necessary supplies for the newborn Pokémon were ready.
Then, he crouched down before the incubator, quietly watching as his new partner ca into the world.
"Dangoro."
A clear yet deep sound rang out.
A smile slowly spread across Silas's face.
"Hello, Roggenrola."
"Dangoro!"
Roggenrola tilted the small brown spike on its head, letting out the sa sound again.
This species was quite different from most Pokémon.
Its entire body was dark navy blue, resembling a rock-like sphere.
Its feet consisted of two polygonal stone structures, and the top of its head featured a vertical, brown, cone-shaped stone, which researchers identified as an aural sensor rather than a conventional horn.
At the very center of its body was a hexagonal yellow hole—this wasn't a mouth or an eye, but rather its ear.
Inside this hole was its black energy core, which functioned as its true center of life and energy absorption.
Rather than eating like most Pokémon, Roggenrola absorbed energy directly through this core.
Silas placed the specialized nutritional formula near its core.
Hearing the movent, Roggenrola carefully adjusted its body and started absorbing the provided nutrients.
This species relied entirely on hearing to navigate. As a newborn, it instinctively moved toward sound. But once the noise stopped, it would beco disoriented and clumsily topple over.
One thing to be cautious about never put a hand into its core. Doing so would cause it to fly into a rage.
Once Roggenrola had finished "eating" everything, Silas took out a Luxury Ball and said, "Co inside and rest for a while, Roggenrola."
"Dangoro."
Roggenrola quickly agreed to be captured by this gentle-voiced trainer.
A red light flashed, and Roggenrola entered the Luxury Ball to rest.
This was the third Pokémon Silas had chosen from the Pewter Gym's breeding facility.
Originally, he hadn't even considered Roggenrola as an option after all, it only had one evolution, Boldore.
However, after studying the materials sent by Pewter Gym regarding Pokémon evolution, he learned that Boldore could evolve into Gigalith through trade evolution.
Trade evolution was a process where a Pokémon inside its Poké Ball was transferred via a specialized machine.
During this transfer, an unknown force triggered evolution, turning Boldore into Gigalith.
Many Pokémon evolved this way so even required specific items in addition to the trade.
After reading about Gigalith's strengths, Silas decided on Roggenrola as his third Pokémon.
Once fully evolved, Gigalith's offensive and defensive capabilities were on par with Aggron, the Pokémon he had originally planned to raise as his team's tank.
Unlike Aggron, which specialized in pure defense, Gigalith had a balanced mix of both offense and defense, excelling in both areas.
Their speed was similar, but Gigalith was more agile in close quarters, whereas Aggron had better sprinting speed.
The only drawback was that Gigalith couldn't ga Evolve.
But since only one Pokémon could ga Evolve at a ti, and Silas had already reserved that spot for Blaziken, this wasn't a real issue.
On top of that, Roggenrola's evolutionary line was highly sensitive to sound, making it an excellent early-warning system when traveling in the wild.
To make things even better, this particular Roggenrola had Elite level potential, aning it was highly worth training.
If he hadn't found a suitable Roggenrola, he would have considered raising an Onix instead then evolving it into Steelix by trading it while holding a tal Coat.
But since he already had a Roggenrola, it beca the obvious first choice.
Otherwise, he would have needed to spend money buying a tal Coat, which was both rare and ridiculously expensive.
Of course, training Roggenrola wouldn't be cheap either, but at least its required materials were more readily available.
It was all thanks to Pewter Gym's extensive collection of Rock- and Ground-type Pokémon.
Aside from ancient fossil Pokémon and certain pseudo-legendaries like Gible, they had almost every species available in their breeding facility.
"With this, my team's basic structure is complete."
Silas thought to himself.
By the ti Roggenrola evolved into Boldore, Combusken would likely evolve into Blaziken, and together with Pidgeot, this team would have a well-rounded balance of skills for wilderness survival.
Now, all they needed was more ti to grow stronger.
Silas calculated his schedule.
He could stay in Pewter City for another month.
With 50 days remaining, he could maximize his training at Pewter Gym's facilities while completing tasks to earn money for supplies.
Then, once he had reached his goal, he could set out on his journey.
To make up for the lost ti, he could spend less ti in Celadon City and Cinnabar Island just taking the Gym Badges and leaving imdiately.
"What a sha," Silas sighed.
Originally, he had planned to spend so ti shopping in Celadon City and relaxing in Cinnabar's hot springs.
But now, that seed impossible.
Plans never kept up with changes.
What Silas didn't expect was just how quickly this saying would prove to be true.
