Silas fell silent for a mont.

Did this an that just now, when Reggie called out to him so loudly, a bunch of people he knew had seen the whole thing?

Damn!

A fake social death scene: soone from Sinnoh shouting loudly in Kanto.

A real social death scene: a local Kanto resident being yelled at in front of a group of familiar faces.

Silas made up his mind if he ever ran into Reggie again, he'd make sure to beat him so badly that he wouldn't be able to take care of himself.

Asakawa Chisato watched Silas' constantly shifting expressions with a playful smile.

He found it amusing as well. At this mont, he could tell that Silas probably had the urge to kill that kid nad Reggie.

Ah, to be young.

A middle-aged man sipped his red wine, enjoying the sea breeze in leisure.

After a brief greeting with Asakawa Chisato, Silas returned to his room.

Right now, all he wanted to do was craft the perfect plan to let Reggie experience what true "care" ant.

Back in his room, he picked up a pen and began furiously writing in his notebook, a sinister smile creeping onto his face.

He glanced at his watch. Earlier, he had asked one of the attendants from Pewter Gym to draw his next match-up for him. The results should be out by now.

For the semifinals, his opponent was the Trainer of that Scyther from before.

Both the semifinals and finals would have their matchups determined on-site by a randomized computer selection.

His opponent was Takeshi Ota, heir to the Dew City Gym. His Pokémon consisted of a Beedrill at the Standard tier and a Scyther at the Advance tier.

Silas quickly recalled the na and details of his semifinal opponent from mory.

A pretty decent opponent, he thought with a strange expression.

And why was that?

Wasn't it obvious?

Beedrill and Scyther's types were completely countered by his three Pokémon.

Of course, type advantages weren't everything, but it depended on who was battling whom.

Even though Dew Gym was well known for raising Beedrill and their trained Beedrill often had unique traits so had abnormally hardened twin needles, so had venom far stronger than usual, and so simply surpassed others in speed or strength

According to the records and his own investigation, Takeshi Ota's Beedrill excelled in both speed and venom.

However, under the sheer power gap, it was hard to imagine a Standard-tier Beedrill standing a chance against his Combusken.

Not to ntion Pidgeot Beedrill probably wouldn't even be able to catch a glimpse of its tailwind.

As for Scyther, the outco would be the sa.

Even Roggenrola could cause them trouble with its Rock-type moves.

Still, to be safe, Silas decided to send out Combusken and Pidgeot.

After all, Roggenrola was still just a kid.

It could be said that drawing Takeshi Ota as his opponent was the best possible outco for Silas his easiest match.

That said, strategy demanded that he underestimate his enemy while tactically preparing for them, so Silas still made so preparations.

Compared to the three pages of notes he wrote on how to deal with Reggie, he felt that the three lines he wrote for Takeshi Ota were already giving him a lot of respect.

The next morning, Silas stood at the third-deck railing, stretching his arms to embrace the sunlight and the salty sea breeze that brushed against his skin.

There were about thirty minutes left before his semifinal match.

He had prepared everything he needed, so he ca out early to relax.

As for the match against Takeshi Ota?

That was too boring to even talk about.

To summarize, Combusken took out both opponents with Fire-type moves, and Pidgeot didn't even get a chance to battle.

Too bad for them.

There were only seven matches scheduled for today.

Even with a fifteen-minute break between each battle, today's schedule was much more relaxed compared to yesterday.

Now, he finally understood what Brock ant when he talked about "interactions between younger trainers."

For those big shots, they probably only cared about the match results so they could use them to brag whenever they felt like it.

After all, yesterday's matches felt downright pitiful.

Only today did the tournant seem sowhat proper.

Silas scoffed to himself.

If he didn't already know this tournant was an official exchange event between thirty-two certified Gyms, he would have thought it was hosted by so obscure small company.

Only one battlefield for all the matches, and even the quarterfinalists had to rush through their battles? Not even a hint of prestige.

Fortunately, today, the organizers finally showed so proper grandeur by reserving the entire third-floor battle arena.

The space would remain closed to the public until the matches were over.

Otherwise, aside from the competitors, no one else would be allowed in except as spectators.

And if any other Trainers had a problem with that? Well, they didn't have to watch (shrugs). That's just how it was.

Besides, the ones complaining were only a minority. Most people aboard the S.S. Anne were either wealthy vacationers or highly skilled Trainers.

Many of them were already aware of the annual Kanto Gym Exchange event on the S.S. Anne.

They were more than happy to watch the top eight battles unfold.

After all, missing one day of casual battling didn't really matter—most of them were here on vacation anyway. Getting to observe the battles between Gym heirs and learning sothing from them was a valuable experience.

A Gym didn't earn official recognition just by being strong; it had to offer sothing unique beyond raw power.

Just then, Silas' attention was caught by a fleeting silhouette on the lower deck.

Was that... Cynthia?

He wasn't sure.

In his past life, he had been a die-hard Cynthia fan obsessed with her battle skills, her beauty, and pretty much everything about her.

But she had disappeared around the corner so quickly that he couldn't get a clear look.

All he caught was a glimpse of a familiar outfit and long, flowing golden hair.

Then again, plenty of people had long blonde hair in this world.

And at this ti, Cynthia was probably still training hard to improve her strength.

After all, she was a woman who would beco the Sinnoh Champion in her twenties.

Silas chuckled and shook his head. He must have been seeing things.

Checking the ti, he realized it was almost ti for his match.

With that, he turned and headed toward the battlefield.

Inside the arena, the last quarterfinal match was still ongoing.

Judging by the scoreboard, both competitors were already down to their second Pokémon.

From the way the Pokémon on the field were panting heavily, the battle was about to be decided.

"Charleon, use Flathrower give it everything you've got!"

"Machop, dodge it!"

Silas was just thinking about the match when the final commands rang out.

The weaker Machop was imdiately knocked out.

As for the Trainer's desperate attempt to have an exhausted Machop dodge?

Silas could only roll his eyes.

What, did they think they were Ash? Not everyone could pull off those miraculous last-second recoveries.

If it had been him, he would have taken a gamble with Detect. If successful, the battle could have lasted a little longer.

Of course, Detect wasn't a guaranteed save, but it was at least more realistic than hoping for a last-second dodge.

Then again, Machop might not have learned Detect yet.

It was a difficult move to master, and most Pokémon only picked it up after evolving into Machoke or Machamp.

As the short break ended, the announcer's voice echoed through the arena.

"And now, let's welco our four semifinalists onto the stage for the match draw!"

Silas stepped forward.

At the sa ti, three other figures joined him on stage.
