(Grey's POV)

The nightmares of the Tower didn't leave easily. For the first few hours of the night, my sleep was a ss, I was being haunted by the events.

I wasn't awake to see it one night , but the locket the old woman had given —the one holding the Togekiss feather—was pulsing with a faint, rhythmic white light. It sat on the crate next to my sleeping bag, acting as a silent ward against the lingering trauma of Lavender.

When I woke up, the air in the tent felt lighter. I started the morning with a quick workout to get the blood flowing, then woke the team for their drills.

We stuck to the sa routine as yesterday; the sa routine , will it felt monotonous sotis it is this repitition of practice that helps .

I checked my Pokégear and finally saw a notification from Erika. She'd ssaged in the middle of the night with a detailed breakdown on how to help Exeggcute manifest Sunny Day and Synthesis.

Erika: Rember, Grey, Sunny Day is a Fire-type manifestation of energy, not Grass. Exeggcute needs to focus on the heat within its own cells rather than the light from outside. As for Synthesis, it can be practiced even in low light—it's about the conversion of stored energy. Start there.

I relayed the tips to Exeggcute. It wobbled its heads in a slow, rhythmic nod, imdiately beginning to experint with the internal "heat" Erika described.

It was going to be a slow process, especially since we were heading into a place where the sun didn't shine, but the discipline was good for it.

After a hearty breakfast of high-calorie Pokémon food, we packed up and continued the trek until the massive mouth of the Rock Tunnel lood over us.

It looked like a jagged, hungry throat cut into the side of the mountain. According to the Pokenet, getting lost in here wasn't just a possibility; it was a rite of passage for trainers.

I took a deep breath, checked the batteries in my heavy-duty flashlight, and stepped into the cool, damp dark.

I hadn't gone ten feet before the ceiling seed to detach itself. Three Zubats, sensing a fresh al, pounced from the shadows with high-pitched shrieks.

I didn't even have to give the command. Exeggcute drifted forward, its eyes glowing pink, and literally ragdolled them through the air with a wave of Confusion.

They slamd into the stone walls and fluttered away, realizing I wasn't an easy target.

I clicked on the flashlight. The beam cut through the gloom, revealing a forest of stalagmites and stalactites that looked like teeth.

Pokenet lore suggested that a massive Onix king and its colony had carved these tunnels centuries ago, and looking at the perfectly circular grooves in the walls, I believed it.

The first few hours was a regular grind of walking through the cave with no one at sight but , I encountered a few Hikers along the way—burly n with soot-stained vests who seed perfectly at ho in the dark.

One of them pointed to and said

"Stay left at the big quartz deposit, kid," he grunted. "Take ya about two days to reach the Cerulean side . And listen—apply your Max Repels thick tonight unless you want to wake up as bat food. The Zubat swarms in the lower levels don't play."

I thanked him, glad I'd stocked up at the Mart. Naturally, the Hikers wouldn't let pass without a battle. They favored Geodudes, Gravelers, and the occasional Machoke. Axew and Exeggcute handled them with clinical efficiency.

I kept using Exeggcute against the Machokes, despite Axew's clear desire to test his strength against other Fighting-types. There was no point in making a trek this long more difficult than it needed to be by forcing bad type-matchups. Axew, however, spent the next three miles pouting, his tail dragging sullenly against the cavern floor.

We hit several dead ends that forced us to backtrack, but owth proved his weight in gold. His Pickup ability was in overdrive, but he wasn't just finding berries or potions.

His curiosity led him to scratch at a loose patch of shale, where he unearthed a strange, calcified object. It wasn't a complete fossil—just a heavy, ancient-looking bone. I doubted I could revive anything from it, but a museum or a collector would probably pay a decent price for it. I guess owths inherent observations are coming in handy.

A few gulleys later, he found a Hard Stone, a dense rock that boosted the power of Rock-type moves. I tucked it into my bag, thinking it would be a great trade item or a gift for a future teammate.

The cave quickly beca an annoyance. The scenery never changed—just more Zubats, more Geodudes, and the constant dripping of water.

Most trainers would have been walking in circles by now, but I kept Exeggcute and owth out of their balls for a reason. Exeggcute's multiple heads and psychic mory ant it could recall every twist and turn we'd taken, and owth's whiskers picked up subtle air currents that signaled the paths leading toward an exit.

As the "day" wore on—asured only by my watch, since the sun was a mory—I started running into Hikers coming from the Cerulean side. It was a relief to know I was actually on the right track. Eventually, the damp chill in the air grew sharper, and I realized night was approaching.

"Alright, everyone," I said, my voice echoing off the damp walls. "We're stopping here."

I found a relatively dry alcove and set up the tent. I followed one of the Hiker's advice and sprayed a heavy periter of Max Repel around the camp; the chemical scent was sharp enough to make my nose sting, but it would keep the swarms at bay.

After a final al, I let the Pokémon stay out to keep guard. They were tired, but the high-stakes environnt kept them alert. I crawled into my sleeping bag, the flashlight clicking off and plunging the world into a silence so deep it felt heavy.
