"Serena, over here!"
Following the call, Serena made her way through the crowd sitting in the bleachers around the battle arena set up in the middle of Vaniville Town, towards where Shauna was standing atop one of the seats and waving her over.
"Finally catch Fletchling, did you?" her friend laughed impishly as she sat down beside the mocha skinned girl.
"Eventually, thanks for taking care of the bill by the way." Serena replied with a huff as she reached into her skirt, grabbing her purse to take out money to repay her friend.
"No worries, no worries!" Shauna waved it off as she accepted the money, "We all know that Fletchling is like after all. Honestly, that little guy is so wild. I have no idea how anyone would be able to make him listen if they were training him. It's probably a good thing you decided being a Sky Trainer isn't for you, huh?"
"Maybe." she just humd as she settled into the seat, eyes going to the battle arena, and the large white podium set up not far from it, where Professor Sycamore himself sat, alongside his assistants.
Then again, maybe not. Her thoughts drifted to the confident muscular young boy she just t, and his monstrously huge Pidgeot.
'He sure was confident.' her lips twitched. And rather shaless too. He hadn't at all hid how his eyes were burning into her lower back when she left.
She was well used to that feeling, she'd dealt with it from not just Tierno, even though he did it the most. But Trevor and even Calem for years.
'A young prodigy that got his license early huh?' she thought. Just like Calem, yet their personalities couldn't have been further from each other.
She wondered how he would do. He seed confident in his chances at least going by how he talked about his Pidgeot and strong opponents.
"How do you think Trevor and Tierno will do?" she asked.
Shauna shrugged, "To be honest, while there probably won't be like many veteran trainers here for this, there'll be at least so experienced well travelled trainers," she said, "Trevor and Tierno haven't even left on their journeys yet. Their chances are slim to none realistically, but maybe that super special secret training Tierno was going on about might surprise us."
She grimaced. Realistically huh? She knew Shauna was right, but it still felt wrong to think their friends had zero chance of winning.

It wasn't long later that the tournant itself began. As soon as the clock hit the right ti, Professor Sycamore stood up and made his way to the front of the podium he was seated at.
"People of Vaniville Town, it's so good to see you all today. I must thank you all for coming!" his voice resonated through the arena, washing over them, "I won't drone on needlessly, no doubt I'd ruin this lovely atmosphere and the excitent of the battles to co if I made you all listen to for too long. Worse, I may even put the skilled trainers who have co here to battle and compete to sleep!"
Her lips twitched, and she wasn't the only one. A wave of laughs and chuckles spread through the stands, alongside so cheers and whistles.
"Let say this however. You may have wondered why I called this tournant, the ganite Tournant," he said, and Serena blinked, she hadn't even known the tournant had a na, "It is simply because I wish to see the grand, ga tier bonds between you all and your pokemon. That bond, is the centre focus of my research as a scientist. And so, I wish for you who will compete, to show your all. And your unfathomable bonds Most of all! Good luck trainers!"
As soon as he finished, the stands erupting into massive well of excited cheers and shouts. She brought her hands together and clapped for him. Watching as he waved to them all, before turning to his seat at the podium.
And as he did, a referee made their way onto the battlefield, standing safely at the side, out of the way.
"Now then, let us get this tournant underway!" the referee declared, voice echoing through a micrphone loudly. He pointed up above him, where a stand had been brought out, with an electronic screen. It lit up and began to rapidly cycle through pictures.
And her eyes widened as she saw Tierno's face appear. Alongside a much older man. Middle-aged by her estimates. Dark haired and burly, with puffy full cheeks and red tattoo's on his face.
Tierno vs Remo
"Tierno is up already!?" Shuana gasped.
And Serena bit her lip, "That guy, he's way older." she noted. Sure, that didn't truly an much in the grand sche. People could be that age and never went on a journey.
But, she had a feeling that wouldn't be the case here.
And as she as she saw Tierno practically hop into view, skipping towards his side of the battle arena with an excited wobble, and Remo swagging in from the opposite side and saw him in full…
She knew was right.
Remo was massive. Thick set, stocky and dressed in sothing that looked almost Kantonian in design, and carrying an umbrella over his shoulder.
And the rope belt he was wearing, was lined with pokeballs.
As soon as they took their spots opposite each other, the referee spoke again, "As you know, this tournant uses a double format, aning you will use two pokemon," he spoke, "I will give a count of three, at which point you will both release your pokemon. Is that understood?"
"Gotcha ref!" Tierno flashed him a thumbs up.
"Whatever, let's just get this on with," Remo snorted, sizing Tierno up with a disdainful glance, "Not that I would need any more than a single pokemon for this entire tournant, but if rules must! Wahahaha!"
…What an asshole.
