Neither trainer wasted ti with unnecessary talk. This wasn't a friendly exhibition—it was training ant to expose weaknesses.

Alex reviewed Venomoth's information using his system and saw that Daniel was using his ti to train several moves to the Expert rank.
In comparison, Larvitar had fewer Expert-rank moves but one move at the Master rank.
It was difficult to say which move-training strategy was more effective. Different matchups yield different results.
Although Larvitar had a four-level disadvantage, it wasn't as bad as it seed. Level differences before the Elite rank (40–59) are significantly less severe than they are later on.
Four levels differences below the Elite rank are less of a problem than two levels differences on the late Elite rank.
Still, Larvitar's biggest weakness remained obvious: his base stats totaled only 300.
Venomoth had a total of 450, and these 450 points were very well distributed, with 90 in Speed and Special Attack.
Objectively speaking, Larvitar's odds of victory were extrely low.

Alex took out a coin and said to Daniel, "We both start imdiately when the coin touches the ground."
Without waiting for Daniel's reply, he threw the coin into the air.
Larvitar, who initially didn't consider Alex his trainer, quickly changed his mind after spending more ti with Alex and his other Pokémon.
He realized that Alex wasn't really a bad human, or at least not a bad Pokémon trainer.
Although he never said so himself, he began to listen to Alex and show him more respect.
Alex didn't need Gardevoir's help, which could sense emotions, to know how Larvitar felt.
He had a similar experience with Crobat, although Crobat's situation had been much more extre at the beginning.
The coin hit the ground.
Daniel spoke instantly.
"Giga Drain."
Alex didn't say anything, because he had already decided what Larvitar should do from the beginning.
Larvitar started running away from Venomoth as he prepared a move.
Venomoth followed, keeping a certain distance.
Alex knew that Larvitar would take a lot of damage from Giga Drain and that it probably couldn't withstand more than two hits, so he had based his plan on that.
Larvitar finished first and used Dragon Dance.
Venomoth wasn't much slower, and while Larvitar was performing his move, she used Giga Drain.
Giga Drain's range was relatively short, but it hit every Pokémon within that range with certainty.
Larvitar wasn't fast enough to outrun Venomoth.
Even with the speed boost, he was still slower.
Larvitar was hit and lost more than two-thirds of his HP in that single attack.
Alex, seeing how much damage Larvitar had taken, had no choice but to agree with his planned tactic. If he had let Larvitar use Stone Edge first, Venomoth would have easily healed the damage with Giga Drain.
Larvitar ignored the pain and began preparing a new move.
Daniel, unable to see how he could lose, said calmly,"Giga Drain."
Both Pokémon began preparing moves again.
Larvitar started and finished first and used Dragon Dance once more.
Only after Larvitar finished did Venomoth's move beco ready.
Venomoth used Giga Drain, but Larvitar managed to prepare and use Protect quickly enough to block the attack.
The Protect shield blocked almost all the damage before it shattered.
The small amount of ti gained, where Daniel had to give his command again, was slowly making a noticeable difference between victory and defeat.
Alex, seeing that the first risky part of his strategy had worked, smiled.
Larvitar imdiately began preparing another move, this ti he was also moving toward Venomoth.
Daniel realized sothing was wrong and hesitated for a mont, unsure whether to use Protect or Giga Drain.
But as an excellent trainer, he didn't hesitate for more than half a second before saying,"Giga Drain and Don't let him get too close."
Alex, hearing this, thought, Too late. Now the entire match depends on whether Larvitar can hit.
He knew how difficult it was for his Pokémon to defeat Venomoth while she had Giga Drain in the expert rank, so he had chosen a very risky plan.
Alex did not like risky plans but he had no other choice. This was the only plan that offered a good chance of victory.
Larvitar used his Master-rank move, Stone Edge.
He didn't aim for Venomoth's body, but for her head.
Alex had known from the beginning that he could only win if Stone Edge critically hit, so he maximized the chance of a perfect strike.
At only five ters away from Venomoth, with Stone Edge at Master rank, Larvitar had a very good chance to hit.
Fist-sized rocks began spinning around Larvitar's body before flying toward Venomoth like shotgun blasts.
Venomoth tried to dodge, but failed.
Most of the rocks struck her head and upper body.
A critical hit.
Venomoth didn't manage to stay airborne for even a mont before falling unconscious to the ground.
A one-hit victory.
