Even standing still, Tyranitar and Gengar radiated an overwhelming sense of power.
Professor Oak could feel it clearly.
These were two Pokémon that had already reached Elite four level.
He knew Sam's family background very well. There was absolutely no way his family could have provided him with two Elite four-level Pokémon.
Then what about Team Rocket?
That was even more impossible.
Unless Sam was the biological son of the true mastermind behind Team Rocket, there was no way the organization would give him two Elite four-level Pokémon.
More importantly, Professor Oak felt no trace of evil aura from either Tyranitar or Gengar.
Although countless doubts surfaced in his mind, Professor Oak ultimately chose to trust Sam.
Trust between people was mutual.
If Sam was willing to trust him, then how could he not trust Sam in return?
"They're outstanding Pokémon," Professor Oak said gently. "Sam, with your strength, you should be able to compete for the championship at this year's Indigo Plateau Conference."
With two Elite four-level Pokémon, competing for the championship was already an understatent. In truth, the championship itself would almost certainly be Sam's.
"Grandpa," Gary said seriously, "I won't lose."
It wasn't that he hadn't seen how powerful Sam's Pokémon were—but admitting defeat before a battle was sothing he simply couldn't do.
"Yes," Ash said firmly. "I'll work hard too at the Indigo Plateau Conference."
Looking at Gary, Ash, and Professor Oak, Sam smiled.
This was the spirit a true Trainer should have.
Losing wasn't frightening—cowardice was.
"Give it your all!"
Maybe Pallet Town really was about to produce two exceptional Trainers.
---
Sam hadn't revealed Tyranitar and Gengar without purpose.
His goal was to draw closer to Professor Oak.
Besides, there really wasn't much to hide. If the Pokémon League conducted a thorough background check, they would discover everything sooner or later. After all, Sam had registered Tyranitar and Gengar with Nurse Joy more than once.
Showing them to Professor Oak wasn't a big deal at all.
Low cost, high return.
Sam would be foolish not to make such a trade.
The effect was imdiate.
Professor Oak's attitude toward Sam beca noticeably warr. It was clear that he now regarded Sam as a junior worth guiding.
"Well, your Ivysaur and Charleon are developing very well," Professor Oak said thoughtfully.
"Especially Ivysaur—I suspect it won't be long before it evolves into Venusaur."
"As for Scyther, I don't recomnd evolving it into Scizor. Your Scyther has exceptionally strong Flying ability, which is very rare. I suggest focusing your training on enhancing that advantage."
"And Clefairy—I suggest developing it as a team support Pokémon. It has inherited the rare moves Heal Pulse and Aromatherapy. It would be a waste not to cultivate that properly. Also, don't rush its evolution. Let it fully master those moves before considering it."
As expected of Professor Oak.
Just a few casual remarks were enough for Sam to gain trendous insight.
Although Sam had the support of a system, he was still lacking in deep Breeder-level knowledge. Professor Oak's guidance could save him from countless future detours.
"Professor Oak," Sam asked sincerely, "if I encounter sothing I don't understand in the future, may I co to you for advice?"
Such an opportunity was too precious to waste.
"Of course," Professor Oak replied without hesitation.
"If you catch any new Pokémon, you can also teleport them to for examination."
If Sam weren't concerned about maintaining his image, he would have shouted with joy on the spot.
Those words ant only one thing—
Professor Oak had accepted him as one of his own.
"I understand, Professor Oak!"
At that mont, Ash's suppressed fighting spirit suddenly ignited.
"Gary, want to have a Pokémon battle with ?"
As expected, Ash was far more eager to challenge Gary than Sam.
Under normal circumstances, Gary would have refused—but this ti, he felt the sa urge.
He wanted to see just how much Ash had grown.
"Sam, looks like we've got a good show to watch," Gary said.
"I'll act as the referee," Professor Oak volunteered.
"No problem," Ash and Gary agreed simultaneously.
In the Pokémon world, battle arenas were never hard to find.
After walking a short distance, everyone arrived at a public battle field.
Ash clearly took this battle very seriously.
He didn't try anything fancy and imdiately chose his most trusted partner.
"Let's go, Pikachu!"
"Pikachu?" Gary smirked.
"Then I choose you—co on, my sweetheart, Eevee!"
Pikachu versus Eevee.
A battle that couldn't be any closer.
