Aoki glanced at the "Ω" symbol engraved on the stone and shook his head unconsciously. The weathered markings told a story of ancient tis, the grooves in the rock worn smooth by centuries of exposure. He laughed at himself quietly, the sound barely echoing in the desolate landscape. "It's true...everything is related to Groudon." His breath ford small clouds in the chilly mountain air as he spoke to no one in particular.

The person who could use this symbol seed to indicate that the Magma Team was led by at least a cadre-level operative this ti, otherwise even a regular team leader wouldn't be qualified to bear this insignia. The weight of the symbol carried implications that made Aoki's shoulders feel heavier. "Cadre level, that's more troubleso." Aoki felt a dull ache beginning to form behind his eyes as he considered the implications. The rough texture of the stone beneath his fingers grounded him as he traced the symbol absently.

No matter how much one might look down on the Magma Team, anyone who could reach the cadre level of such an organization was at least a champion-level Trainer. And it probably wasn't those weak champion Trainers from Goldenrod City either. The thought sent a shiver down his spine that had nothing to do with the mountain's cool breeze.

"Ah-dong~~" Slowking standing next to Aoki let out its characteristic call, the sound reverberating oddly against the stone surfaces. The psychic voice of Slowking sounded in Aoki's mind, clear and distinct despite the ntal barriers he normally maintained. "Are there any marks of psychic coordinates here? Tsk, but fortunately, they're not champion-level psychic signatures, otherwise there would be no point in playing." Aoki couldn't help but sigh when he heard Slowking's assessnt, his breath visible in the crisp air.

At that mont, the Honchkrow that had been circling high above descended toward them, its wings cutting through the thin mountain air with precision. Aoki stretched out his arm, the familiar weight of the Dark/Flying-type Pokemon settling comfortably on his forearm. After extensive training, Honchkrow was now able to perch without causing undue stress to Aoki's arm muscles.

"Caw~~" Honchkrow called out, its sharp eyes glinting with intelligence as it delivered its report. Aoki narrowed his eyes, the pieces of a plan falling into place in his mind as he processed the information. Through Honchkrow's keen observation, he had confirmation of human presence in the area.

Not only that, Honchkrow had spotted a strange ruin-like structure on the mountainside, though the guards stationed at the entrance had prevented closer inspection. The scarcity of Flying-type Pokemon in the area made Honchkrow's presence too conspicuous for proper reconnaissance. An ancient building implied historical human habitation, possibly dating back to the ancient civilization period that fascinated archaeologists.

Aoki initially considered keeping Honchkrow on high alert duty, but reconsidered given how unusual a Honchkrow would appear in this environnt. A different Pokemon would be more appropriate for maintaining surveillance. He selected a Pokeball from his belt and released his recently-evolved Flygon, its translucent wings humming faintly as it materialized.

The Dragon/Ground-type, having recently reached quasi-champion status, was instructed to maintain high-altitude surveillance and alert Aoki to any unusual activity. In the desert environnt, a Flygon wouldn't attract undue attention, especially if it wasn't carrying a rider. The desert sand reflected the sunlight in shimring waves as Flygon ascended to its observation post.

With Slowking and Honchkrow at his side, Aoki continued his careful ascent up the mountain path. The rough volcanic rock crunched underfoot with each step. Since Honchkrow had only observed personnel at the summit - two guards stationed outside the ancient structure - extre caution wasn't imdiately necessary. The Magma Team couldn't mobilize instantly, but charging directly toward their position would be foolhardy at best.

As he strategized, movent among the rocks caught Aoki's attention. A Excadrill suddenly appeared from a crevice, its drill-like claws scraping against stone as it searched for food. Encountering an Excadrill in this terrain wasn't surprising - the Ground/Steel-type thrived in such environnts, feeding on subterranean minerals and ores.

Though primarily native to Unova, Excadrill populations had been docunted in other regions with suitable underground habitats. What intrigued Aoki was the creature's behavior after noticing his presence. Instead of simply retreating, the Excadrill disappeared into what appeared to be an ordinary rock pile, then actively rearranged stones to conceal its passage.

This instinctive behavior suggested the Excadrill had established a network of tunnels beneath the surface. The creature's actions revealed a hidden passageway that Aoki would never have noticed otherwise. Though narrow - barely accommodating the 1.4-ter-tall Excadrill - the tunnel's existence sparked Aoki's curiosity.

He selected three Pokeballs from his belt. For excavation work, these Pokemon were ideally suited. Drapion, the expert digger, erged first, its pincers clicking in anticipation. Following it ca Lairon and Larvitar, both recently evolved and eager to prove their capabilities.

At the Excadrill's entry point, Aoki directed Drapion to begin stone removal and tunnel expansion. Lairon and Larvitar were tasked with ground reinforcent using their innate control over earth energies. The process sent small plus of dust into the air with each movent.

Simultaneously, Aoki recalled Flygon from its aerial patrol. Whatever the Magma Team sought, direct confrontation wasn't currently advantageous. The Excadrill's tunnel network might provide alternative access points. To Aoki's surprise, the tunnel didn't ascend toward the mountain's peak but descended deeper underground.

As Drapion's excavation progressed, the tunnel widened considerably, transitioning from the Excadrill's narrow passage to what appeared to be an ancient, collapsed corridor. The dinsions suggested artificial construction rather than natural formation or Pokemon activity. Mud bricks lined sections of the tunnel, their aged surfaces showing signs of careful craftsmanship despite centuries of neglect.

With growing curiosity, Aoki and his Pokemon team ventured deeper into the subterranean passage. The air grew cooler and carried the scent of ancient stone as they progressed. "Larvi!!" Larvitar suddenly tugged at Aoki's pant leg, pointing urgently ahead with its small claw. The young Pokemon's alert posture imdiately put Aoki on guard.

A silent exchange with Slowking followed. The Psychic-type extended its ntal awareness down the corridor, its forehead gem glowing faintly in the dim light. After a mont's concentration, Slowking nodded confirmation - the imdiate area appeared secure. The group advanced cautiously until they erged from the confining tunnel into an expansive cavern.

The transition was marked by a wave of musty air, thick with the scent of decayed organic matter and the tallic tang of oxidized minerals. Though faint, the odor was unmistakable - the signature of ancient structures long sealed from fresh air. The torch in Aoki's hand beca unnecessary as they entered the cavern, for the space was illuminated by an unknown light source.

The sight that greeted them stole Aoki's breath. Ancient human engineering prowess was displayed in staggering fashion - a massive structure perfectly fitted to the cavern's contours, its highest points brushing the ceiling without a centiter to spare. The scale rivaled modern constructions like Devon Corporation's headquarters, yet achieved without contemporary technology.

Most striking was the enormous "Ω" symbol dominating the building's entrance, carved with precision into the ancient stone. The symbol's presence confird this as a site of worship for the original Groudon, a relic from an ancient civilization that worshiped the Continent Pokemon in its primal form. The grooves of the carving cast long shadows in the ambient light, creating an almost living pattern across the stone surface.
