When the referee announced the start of the battle, Kai and Giselle issued commands simultaneously.
"Blastoise, use Water Gun!"
"Onix, dig underground!"
The dual water cannons on Blastoise's shell fired high-pressure streams of water toward Onix. However, before the attack could land, Onix had already burrowed into the rocky terrain.
The water blasts hit a large boulder instead, scattering in all directions and dampening the field. Onix remained completely untouched.
The ground began to vibrate subtly.
Even from the trainer's platform, Kai could feel the tremors as Onix tunnelled beneath the battlefield.
However, the roar of the crowd made it impossible to pinpoint Onix's exact location.
"Blastoise, move to the largest rock on the field!"
Blastoise assessed the field and quickly identified the tallest rock. Despite its massive size, it jumped a few tis and climbed atop the formation.
From this elevated vantage point, Blastoise gained a wide view of the arena. The extra height would also give it precious seconds to react to any subterranean attack.
Seeing this, Giselle smirked. Though she had initially planned to ambush Blastoise, she knew the high ground now posed a challenge to her strategy.
"Not bad," she admitted, then gave a sly grin. "But you've trapped yourself. Onix, use Rock Tomb!"
A barrage of jagged rocks erupted from the ground, hurtling toward Blastoise.
The sharp stones cracked and shattered the boulder beneath Blastoise, sending it flying into the air.
"Blastoise, Withdraw!" Kai shouted.
Blastoise quickly retracted into its shell just as the sharp stones struck.
The sturdy shell absorbed most of the impact, and although Blastoise was launched upward by the force, it remained unhard.
Giselle frowned slightly, realizing that her strategy had little effect. Against another Pokémon, Onix's Rock Tomb would have been devastating.
Kai, however, felt a surge of confidence. The Withdraw technique, though basic, had been drilled into Blastoise's repertoire for precisely such scenarios.
As Blastoise soared higher, Kai saw an opportunity. Onix's movent from earlier had exposed its position underground.
"Blastoise, spin and co down with Rapid Spin!"
Blastoise tucked into its shell and began spinning at high speed, creating a powerful, whirling descent. The spinning shell slamd into the ground where Onix was hiding.
BOOM!
The impact shook the entire arena, forcing Onix to surface. The Rock Snake Pokémon erged with a groan, clearly dazed from the attack.
"Now's our chance! Blastoise, Water Gun!"
Blastoise's water cannons whirred to life, charging for a powerful shot. Just as Onix regained its composure, twin streams of water blasted it with incredible force.
ROOOOARR!
The super-effective attack left Onix on the verge of collapse.
"Onix, get out of there!" Giselle called, but the soaked battlefield worked against her. The softened ground beca a muddy trap, restricting Onix's movents.
"What...?" Giselle gasped, her composure slipping.
The crowd buzzed in shock and excitent. Even the comntator chid in:
"Incredible! The soaked terrain has turned into a quagmire, preventing Onix from escaping! Kai has turned the battlefield to his advantage!"
Kai chuckled softly, noticing Giselle's frustration. "I suppose this isn't sothing you were taught at the Pokémon Academy, is it?"
Giselle clenched her fists but said nothing. She had always battled in carefully controlled environnts at school, and this unpredictable situation had caught her off guard.
"Blastoise, let's finish this! Hydro Pump!"
With a trendous blast of water, Blastoise knocked Onix out cold. The Rock Snake Pokémon collapsed with a resounding thud.
"Onix is unable to battle! Blastoise wins!"
The referee's announcent was t with a thunderous cheer from Kai's supporters, while Giselle's fans groaned in disappointnt.
"Incredible!" The comntator exclaid. "Though Onix is known for its durability, it stood no chance against Blastoise's overwhelming Water-type advantage. Kai takes the first victory of this intense match!"
Giselle returned Onix to its Poké Ball with a sigh, her confident deanour faltering.
Back in school, she had always been able to overco type disadvantages through clever strategies and sheer skill.
But this battle was a harsh reminder of the unpredictability of the real world and the strength of her opponent.
Still, her years of training helped her recover quickly. She smirked and pulled out another Poké Ball.
"I underestimated you in the first battle," Giselle admitted. "But I won't make that mistake again. Let's see how you handle this next challenge!"
She tossed the Poké Ball, and in a flash of light, her second Pokémon appeared.
