Sato wore the uniform of Team Magma and carefully boarded one of their ships. He lightly tapped one of the mbers who appeared to be in distress, their eyes tightly shut.

When the person showed no reaction, Sato increased his efforts, slapping the mber hard across the face. The sound echoed, and the mber's face swelled, but there was still no sign of them waking up.

It was clear that they were trapped in a nightmare they couldn't escape.

As ti passed, Sato noticed that not only the humans but also their Pokémon, all in a similar sleep-like state, were becoming increasingly pale.

Their life force seed to be growing weaker, indicating they were suffering even in their dreams.

"It must be that guy. Looks like the old village chief didn't tell everything—or maybe even he didn't know that Mount Pyre had sothing like this. After all, it's been a long ti since this place changed hands," Sato muttered to himself, a chill creeping into his heart as he looked at the people and Pokémon locked in nightmares.

He considered himself lucky to have escaped the sa fate. Had his will not been strong enough, he would likely be no different from them now.

Thinking about how he and his Pokémon could have fallen into such a deep slumber at sea, Sato felt a pang of fear. If that had happened, they'd likely have sunk to the bottom of the ocean by now.

However, upon observing the state of the Team Magma mbers, Sato began piecing together the truth about the shadow he'd seen earlier.

If his guess was right, the figure was none other than Darkrai, the Nightmare Pokémon.

Darkrai was a terrifying Dark-type Legendary Pokémon. However, Sato recalled it as being sowhat righteous—it had once protected the Space-Ti Tower in the movies, playing a significant role.

But judging from the current situation, it seed that Darkrai was still Darkrai.

Its kindness seed reserved for only a select few it deed worthy. For those it didn't approve of, the result was likely what he saw with the Team Magma mbers.

Sato tried using a Chesto Berry's juice, known to cure sleep, on one of the Team Magma mbers, but the effect was minimal. Although the person's eyelids twitched slightly, they soon fell still again.

He then summoned his Bellossom to use its Healer ability, but even her normally effective thods failed.

"This Darkrai's Dark Void is terrifying. Normal ans can't even break their sleep. Just how strong is this Darkrai?" Sato wondered. Despite exhausting his options, he couldn't wake the Team Magma mber.

His estimation of Darkrai's power rose sharply—only Cresselia, the Lunar Pokémon, might be able to counter Darkrai's nightmare-inducing powers.

"Not good. Darkrai must be the guardian Pokémon placed at Mount Pyre by the Mikuri Clan. It must've discovered these Team Magma mbers entering the mountain improperly and ca to deal with them. If that's the case, Marcus is in danger," Sato realized, his expression darkening.

He glanced up at the cliffside entrance to the cave above and connected the dots. Darkrai's sudden appearance could only an trouble.

The more Sato thought about it, the more convinced he beca of his theory. His strong will had spared him from being attacked outright, likely because Darkrai recognized him as a non-hostile party.

But Team Magma wasn't so lucky. To Darkrai, they were nothing but invaders, and against a Legendary Pokémon, they had no chance.

No wonder the Mikuri Clan hadn't stationed guards at Mount Pyre. From what Sato knew, only an elderly couple was tasked with guarding the mountain's two sacred orbs.

Their greatest defense was undoubtedly this powerful Darkrai.

Indeed, with such a formidable Dark-type Legendary Pokémon present, any intruders who didn't follow the proper procedures would face dire consequences.

Even the Ghost-type Pokémon in the area likely submitted to Darkrai's overwhelming might.

"Man, if all this is true, the Mikuri family's influence must be incredible. It's clear that the ani is just fantasy. In reality, it's nearly impossible for a common Trainer to rise to prominence in the face of such powerful families and factions," Sato thought, feeling the weight of his path ahead.

But now wasn't the ti to wallow in self-pity. Sato steeled himself, determined to fulfill the old village chief's request to rescue Marcus.

If Darkrai had entered the tunnels to pursue the intruders, Sato would need to act swiftly to retrieve Marcus.

He could only hope that Darkrai would show so leniency, allowing him to bring back a conscious Marcus. If not, then even an unconscious one would have to suffice.

Sato had already braced himself for the risks—few would dare to rescue soone from the clutches of a Dark-type Legendary Pokémon.

After climbing the rope ladder to the cliffside entrance, Sato entered the dark tunnel. It was pitch-black, save for the occasional breeze that indicated a possible exit.

Not daring to use a bright light for fear of attracting Darkrai or Team Magma, Sato broke a glow stick for faint illumination. With his Golbat and Mightyena at his side, he cautiously advanced through the tunnel.

Darkrai's unexpected appearance had disrupted his plans but also provided an advantage in rescuing Marcus. Along the way, Sato passed more Team Magma mbers who had been forcibly dragged into nightmares by Darkrai's Dark Void.

As he ventured deeper, Sato finally spotted the bulk of the Team Magma group ahead. Guided by flickering lights and the sound of intense combat, he saw them locked in battle with Darkrai.

Surprisingly, Team Magma seed to have the upper hand.

It was evident they had co prepared to deal with Darkrai, bringing Pokémon with Insomnia, those trained to use Taunt, and Fighting-types.

With these two counterasures, Darkrai's nightmare-inducing tactics were significantly curtailed.

Furthermore, the Fighting-type Pokémon's aggressive attacks left Darkrai struggling to fight back effectively
