Sato was genuinely surprised when Giovanni assigned him this mission. After all, he was well aware of the identities of people like Sabrina, Koga, and Lt. Surge—they were Giovanni's deepest-planted agents within the League.
Among them, Koga, the ninja, was by far the most formidable—rising all the way to beco Johto's future Poison-type Elite Four mber. He was a spy of the highest caliber.
When Sato received the mission from Giovanni, he fully grasped how terrifying and strategically brilliant the leader of this dark organization truly was.
There was no way Sato was the fourth person Giovanni had sent to infiltrate the League. There were undoubtedly many before him—and many more to co after.
What shocked Sato the most was how prepared Giovanni had been: even before assigning the mission, he had already handed over a stack of identity profiles for Sato to choose from.
Each of these identities was entirely real, and their League records had been perfectly forged. It was nearly impossible for anyone to detect the fabrication.
All Sato had to do was wear a special high-tech synthetic skin mask given to him by Giovanni, study one of these identities in depth, and even with diocre acting skills, he could completely assu a new identity.
However, Sato couldn't begin this mission yet. The reason was the hidden danger still lingering within him.
Even though the League was decaying from within, it remained imnsely powerful and filled with experts. If he entered their line of sight before eliminating his own problems, he would be exposed almost imdiately.
After all, the new identity Giovanni prepared for him was that of an average, clean-background citizen. But with Sato's current state—so intense that it made wild beasts and Pokémon alike instinctively avoid him—there was no way he could pull off a convincing performance.
Unless he made his mark under this new identity through official combat missions and earned honor through bloodshed, there would be no justifying his strength and presence.
But as with all things, the hardest part is the beginning. Avoiding the League's attention completely in the early stages was close to impossible.
Sato didn't continue dwelling on the mory of Giovanni assigning him the mission. He quickly refocused his thoughts and scattered the bird feed in his hand all at once onto the ground.
Under the curious eyes of onlookers, he then made his way to a quiet grove within the park.
Once deep within the woods, Sato did not imdiately bring out the Top-tier Moon Stone to evolve Nidorino. Instead, he sat cross-legged under a large tree's canopy and began his ditation training.
Ti passed quietly as Sato smoothly entered a ditative state. Before long, it was past 6 p.m.
By now, the sky had completely darkened. A bright full moon shone overhead in a sky filled with stars.
Although evolving a Nidorino only required contact with a Moon Stone, if one wanted to absorb as much of its power as possible, a moonlit night was undoubtedly the best ti to do it.
Only under moonlight would the energy within the Moon Stone beco most active.
After confirming through Natu that no one else was nearby, Sato released Nidorino and pulled out the Top-tier Moon Stone he had recently obtained.
Under the moonlight, the Moon Stone—retrieved from his spatial wristband—had undergone a complete transformation.
In the dim surroundings, it looked like a miniature full moon, radiating a dazzling silvery glow.
The mont Sato took out the Moon Stone, Nidorino instinctively stepped forward.
Had it been anyone else, he might have succumbed to the desire and snatched the Moon Stone away—but he knew the man in front of him was Sato.
At that mont, every cell in Nidorino's body greedily absorbed the energy emanating from the Top-tier Moon Stone. Deep ancestral instincts awoke within his bloodline, urging him to take in this power.
"Nidorino, this stone contains the power that will allow you to evolve. Go on—accept it, and embrace your new form."
Seeing how eager Nidorino was, Sato didn't keep him waiting. He gently tossed the Moon Stone toward him.
Whoosh—
The mont Sato threw the Moon Stone, Nidorino beca a blur and snatched it midair, swallowing it down.
In the very next second, he landed on the ground—and his body exploded with a blinding light of evolution. The previously dim forest lit up as bright as day.
At the sa ti, the moon above seed to bless this evolution. Beads of moonlight, the size of rice grains, began forming out of thin air in the sky. They stread downward, flowing into the glowing body of Nidorino.
Gradually, the white evolution light that engulfed Nidorino turned pale yellow—just like the moon hanging in the night sky.
"Nidoooo!!!"
As the light fully turned moon-gold, Nidorino let out a mighty roar, filled with excitent and joy.
Then, under the combined illumination of evolution and moonlight, Nidorino's body began to transform.
The first change was his tail. Once stubby, it now lengthened and thickened rapidly—growing over two ters long in an instant. Next ca his hind legs, which bulked up and grew powerfully thick.
With his newly evolved long tail for balance and strong hind limbs to support his fra, Nidorino—once low to the ground—began to stand fully upright. His torso straightened and swelled with muscle.
Sharp spines sprouted along his spine, stretching all the way to the back of his head.
His front legs morphed into lean, muscular arms. His ears grew wider, and the horn on his forehead thickened and lengthened.
The entire evolution took around three to four minutes. As the light faded, standing before Sato was a towering, nearly three-ter-tall Nidoking—strong and imposing.
"Nido~"
After the transformation, Nidoking took a few steps forward and gently lowered his head before Sato.
"Congratulations, Nidoking."
Sato's heart brimd with joy as he looked up at his Nidoking—now nearly the sa size as a Swampert. With a broad smile, he stepped forward, wrapped his arms around Nidoking's head, and touched his forehead to Nidoking's.
In that quiet mont, the bond between Trainer and Pokémon deepened even further.
