-----------------

For now, Brawly was not yet the dashing and charismatic Gym Leader he would beco in the future. His current appearance was almost no different from the average Fighting-type trainer you might et on the street.

A handso but stern face, a tall, muscular body clad in a sleek black martial arts gi, a buzz cut, and iron geta on his feet — that was Brawly's present style.

Still, Sato rembered him as the Brawly who always loved to show off.

When Brawly stepped out of the trainer's tunnel and heard the cheers of the audience, he couldn't resist. He broke into a series of continuous sorsaults all the way to the battle stage, then leapt with all his strength, vaulting the full five to six ters onto the platform in one go.

"Whoaa~~~!"

"Aweso!!"

"Wow, so cool~~~!"

The crowd's cheers exploded at the flashy entrance, and for a mont Brawly stood there like a superstar basking in the spotlight.

"As expected of a Fighting-type specialist, Brawly's physical ability is extraordinary. That was an incredible way to make an entrance!"

"Alright then, since both trainers have arrived, let's begin the match. Please spin the battle wheel to decide the battlefield and who takes the first move."

The comntator, riding high above the arena on a Pidgeot, lifted his microphone as the noise subsided and spoke loudly.

At his words, the two wheels on the giant screen began to spin rapidly. The results soon appeared: Water Field as the battlefield, with Brawly taking the first move.

Imdiately, the arena split open, the stone floor retracting to reveal a massive pit beneath. Rising slowly from below was the Water Field: a large pool intersected by two wooden bridges crossing in an "X" shape. On the surface of the water were four enormous floating platforms, each in its own quadrant.

"Let's go, Poliwrath! You'll be our vanguard today!"

Brawly wasted no ti. As soon as the arena finished transforming, he hurled his PokeBall high, releasing a towering Poliwrath nearly 1.8 ters tall, broad-shouldered, with a black belt tied proudly around its waist.

Poliwrath landed with a flourish — flipping backward before balancing perfectly on one leg atop a round wooden post of the bridge, palms pressed together and eyes closed, striking the pose of a martial artist in deep concentration.

Clearly, this Pokémon had been with Brawly for a long ti — even its show-off habits mirrored its trainer's.

The audience erupted again, showering praise on the stylish Poliwrath, many giving it thumbs-up and shouts of approval.

Hearing all the complints, Poliwrath was delighted — so much so it nearly burst out laughing, its body trembling slightly, the corners of its eyes twitching.

"This Poliwrath's pretty entertaining."

Sato, who was scanning it with both his psychic senses and his system's detection ability, noticed the little details instantly. He couldn't help but smirk in amusent.

...….

Sato was impressed by Brawly's eye for talent. While Poliwrath's stats weren't absolutely top-tier, its total IV value of 171 was quite good, and the fact it had the rare Hidden Ability Swift Swim made it exceptional.

On top of that, Brawly had invested heavily in it. Beyond the basics like Protect, Hidden Power, and Double Team, he'd taught it Bulk Up, Ice Punch, and Ice Beam via TMs. Its tutor move list included excellent options like Surf, Waterfall, and Low Kick.

Not to ntion, this Poliwrath was larger than most of its species, and at level 52, its developnt was outstanding.

"Take flight, Beautifly — this match is yours to dominate!"

Not long after Poliwrath appeared, Sato also threw out a PokeBall. Glittering scales shimred in the air as a shiny Beautifly descended gracefully into the arena, a beautiful green necklace strung around her neck.

Unlike Poliwrath's flashy performance, Beautifly didn't need theatrics. Her dazzling beauty and queenly aura alone captivated the crowd, drawing praise and admiration with ease.

Facing a Fighting-type specialist like Brawly, Sato had carefully considered his choice. In the end, he decided to use his shiny Beautifly to sweep through the opponent's team. To ensure victory, he had even re-equipped her with the rare mutated Supre Sky Splitting Stone.

Sato didn't want to expose too many of his trump cards in this battle — nor did he want to give Brawly too many chances. His plan was simple: Beautifly would crush all of Brawly's Fighting-types.

As Beautifly appeared, Poliwrath opened his eyes, gaze sharp as he watched her flutter elegantly above. His instincts scread danger — that beautiful creature in the sky was extrely threatening.

"Poliwrath! Dive into the water, then set up Rain Dance!"

The referee declared the battle's start, and Brawly imdiately gave his command with a firm shout.

Poliwrath sprang into motion — pushing off with one leg, diving into the water with the perfect form of an Olympic diver, hardly leaving a ripple.

At the sa mont, Beautifly moved. Her delicate wings beat once, unleashing a massive 5-ter-wide crescent of erald energy — Air Cutter! It sliced through the air like lightning, aid directly at the spot where Poliwrath had entered the water.

"BOOM!" The attack split part of the water's surface apart, detonating with a surge of energy that sent waves crashing upward.

But there was no sign of Poliwrath in the spray.

By the ti the water splashed back down, the swimming master had already resurfaced several ters away, arms raised high. His gloved fists glowed with brilliant blue light.

Above the arena, dark clouds gathered rapidly. Within seconds, they covered the entire field.

A light rain began to fall.
